**Final Chapter Part 1 - The Last Confrontation**
*Three days after Sharon walked into Madeleine's apartment.*
---
**Mark waking up - Jason POV brief interlude:**
Nikolai called at 7am.
"He's awake," he said simply. "Confused but coherent. He remembers the apartment. He remembers the women."
I closed my eyes. "I'll be there in twenty minutes."
Marc was sitting up in bed when I arrived, pale and disoriented, a bandage wrapped around his head. He looked at me with the specific wariness of a man who didn't know exactly what had happened but knew enough to be careful.
I sat down across from him and placed an envelope on the table between us.
He looked at it. Then at me.
"That's enough to start over somewhere else," I said quietly. "New city. New life. No charges filed against you for the attack - we keep this between us. Madeleine moves on. You move on." I paused. "Or you make this complicated. Your choice."
Marc stared at the envelope for a long moment.
Then he took it.
I walked out without looking back.
One loose end. Tied.

**Lana POV - Best Auto**
Getting Madeleine to come to Best Auto had been easier than I expected.
Liam had called her. She'd come. Whatever complicated thing existed between them apparently still had enough pull to get her through the door of the company she used to work at - the company where, as it turned out, her replacement had been her blackmailer the entire time.
The irony was almost beautiful.
We sat her down in front of the security camera footage. The restored footage - the days that had been deleted and then, thanks to Liam's IT contact, partially recovered from the backup server.
September 20th. The day of Letty's interview.
Madeleine watched the screen. A woman entering the building. Long black wavy hair. Dark eyes. Confident stride.
Madeleine went very still.
"That's her," she said quietly. "That's the woman who came to my apartment. Who paid me to leave." She turned to look at us. "That's Letty."
Liam and I looked at each other.
"Letty," I said slowly. "Who came to us with a perfect resume. Who knew everything about this company before she'd ever set foot in it. Who walked straight to Sharon's bathroom without being shown the way." I paused. "Who has been sitting at that desk for months watching everything."
"Letty is Scarlett," Liam said. Not a question.
"Letty is Scarlett," I confirmed.
I picked up my phone and typed a message to Sharon.
*Sharon. We know who Letty is. She's Scarlett. Call me.*
I waited.
No response.
I tried again five minutes later.
Nothing.
I looked at Liam. "She's not answering me."
He said nothing. We both knew why. Sharon wasn't answering anyone connected to Liam right now. That was its own conversation for another time.
Then my phone buzzed. But not from Sharon.
Jason.
*Urgent dinner tonight. All of you. I'm sending the address now. Be there at 8. - J*
The address came through thirty seconds later. A private dining room at a restaurant across the city.
I showed it to Liam.
He read it. His jaw tightened. "He knows we know."
"He's been knowing," I said. "That's the point."

**The Dinner - Sharon POV**
I almost didn't go.
I sat in my car outside the restaurant for four minutes and considered driving away and letting all of them deal with whatever this was without me. I was done. I had decided I was done. Done with Liam, done with the history, done with the whole architecture of a life that had turned out to be built on something that wasn't what I thought it was.
But I was Sharon Calloway.
And I didn't drive away from things.
I went inside.
The private dining room was small and well lit. Jason was already there, sitting at the head of the table, his face composed and unreadable. Liam arrived seconds after me. Lana came in behind him.
Nobody sat down immediately. We all just stood there in the particular tension of people who had too much to say and no agreed upon order in which to say it.
Liam looked at Jason. "I know your girlfriend is Scarlett," he said. No preamble. "I know you knew the whole time. And I know you let us."
Lana stepped forward. "You sat at our table. You hugged us. You let her walk into that office every single day and you said nothing." Her voice was sharp. "You chose her over us Jason. Over people you've known your whole life."
Jason looked at them both calmly. "I chose the right side," he said simply. "For once."
"The RIGHT SIDE-"
"Lana." His voice was quiet but final.
I hadn't spoken yet. I was standing slightly apart from all of them, which felt accurate. I was slightly apart from all of this now. I looked at Liam - really looked at him, the way you looked at something you were trying to memorize before you let it go - and then I looked away.
He noticed. Of course he noticed.
"Sharon," he started.
I said nothing.
"Sharon, I know this isn't-"
"Don't," I said quietly.
Lana looked between us. "Sharon. Say something. We need you right now."
I met her eyes. "What would you like me to say Lana? That I'm fine? That finding my husband in bed with another woman has absolutely no effect on my ability to focus on our collective revenge mission?" I smiled, and it wasn't a warm smile. "I'm here. That's what I have right now."
Liam exhaled. "It's not the time for this-"
"Then WHEN is the time?" My voice came out louder than I intended, filling the small room. "When exactly were you planning to make it the time Liam? Because I have been waiting for you to make it the time for three days and my phone has been very quiet-"
The door opened.
Everyone stopped.
She walked in wearing a black dress - elegant, simple, the kind of black that wasn't mourning but intention. Her dark hair fell in perfect waves around her face. Her black eyes moved across the room and took everything in at once, calm and measuring.
Behind her, one step back, was Julia.
Blue dress. Short brown hair. Hazel eyes that found mine for just a second before moving away.
The room was completely silent.
Lana moved first.
She took three steps toward Scarlett and Jason was between them before Lana had taken the fourth, one hand out, his body blocking the path. Solid. Immovable.
"Move Jason," Lana said.
"No," he said.
"MOVE-"
"I said no Lana."
She looked around him at Scarlett, her aqua eyes blazing. "I KNEW it was you! I knew it from the beginning I KNEW-" Her voice cracked and rebuilt itself into something wilder. "You think you can walk in here after everything? After my career? After my LIFE? I am going to make your existence a misery Scarlett Prescott I SWEAR-"
"Lana." Jason's voice was sharp.
Liam had crossed the room toward Jason, and suddenly they were face to face - two men who had grown up together, stood beside each other for twenty years, and were now standing on opposite sides of something that couldn't be undone.
"You knew," Liam said. Low and dangerous. "You knew who she was and you helped her destroy my marriage."
"Your marriage destroyed itself," Jason said. "I just didn't stop the truth from coming out."
Liam shoved him.
Jason shoved back harder.
"STOP IT." Julia's voice cut through the room, sharp and clear. She stepped forward, hands up, positioning herself in the middle of the chaos the way she always had - the one who tried to hold things together even when they were determined to fall apart. "Everyone just STOP. This is not-"
"You want to talk about proof?" Scarlett's voice was quiet underneath all the noise but it cut through anyway. She was looking at Liam directly. "I know what you did to my father. I know it was you. Drunk, in that parking lot, ten years ago. And I have proof."
She didn't.
Jason knew she didn't. Julia knew she didn't. The only proof she had was Jason's word, and Jason's word wouldn't hold up to what she was implying.
But Liam didn't know that.
And the effect was immediate and catastrophic.
Something broke open in his face - guilt and rage colliding, ten years of buried knowledge surfacing all at once, and his hand moved to the table beside him and closed around the handle of the decorative knife sitting next to the place settings and Julia was still in the middle of the room still trying to calm everything down still trying to be the person she had always been-
"LIAM DON'T-" Sharon screamed.
He lunged toward Scarlett.
Julia saw it before anyone else moved.
She didn't think. She just stepped.
Between Liam and Scarlett.
The knife caught her just below the left shoulder. High in the chest. The sound she made wasn't a scream - it was smaller than that, surprised, like the breath had simply left her without permission.
She looked down.
Then she looked up at Scarlett.
Scarlett caught her before she hit the floor.
"No." Scarlett's voice was barely a sound. "No no no Julia-"
"I've got you," Jason said, already on his knees beside them both, his phone in his hand calling emergency services, his voice steady in the way it went steady in crises while everything behind his eyes was breaking. "Julia stay with us. Stay with me."
Julia's hand found Scarlett's and held on.
Sharon was already on the phone with the police, her voice flat and precise and giving the address and the details with the terrible efficiency of someone who had gone somewhere past shock into pure function.
Liam stood where he was. The knife on the floor. His hand still open. His face the face of a man watching himself from the outside and not recognizing what he saw.
Lana hadn't moved. She stood against the wall, her hand over her mouth, her eyes on Julia on the floor, and for once in her life she had nothing to say.
Julia's grip on Scarlett's hand loosened slowly.
"Hey," Scarlett whispered, her voice destroyed. "Hey. Don't. Please. Don't you dare."
Julia looked at her. Her hazel eyes were still clear, still warm, still the eyes of the only person who had stayed when staying cost something.
Her lips moved.
Scarlett bent close to hear her.
Whatever Julia said, she said it only to Scarlett.
And then she was gone.
The room was silent in the way rooms were silent after something happened that couldn't be taken back. The kind of silence that had a before and an after and nothing in between.
Scarlett stayed on the floor holding Julia's hand and didn't move and didn't speak and the tears ran down her face without any sound at all.
Jason's hand rested on her back.
Outside, sirens were already getting closer.
