The door clicked shut behind me and I stood there for a second, just breathing her in. The apartment smelled like her perfume - warm, familiar, nothing like strawberries, nothing that reminded me of anyone else.
Then I saw her.
She was sitting in the center of the sofa like she owned the room. Red dress, short, silk, the kind that was designed to be a problem. Her gorgeous ginger curls fell loose around her shoulders and she was watching me with that expression - half amusement, half something that pulled at something deep in my chest that Sharon had never quite reached.
And on her finger, catching the lamplight - the blue diamond flower ring.
I smiled just looking at her. "You look gorgeous with it."
She glanced down at it, then back up at me slowly. "I know. Better on my finger than in your pocket, no?"
"Much better."
She tilted her head, playing with one of her curls. "So, babe. Did she believe you?"
"Enough," I said, loosening my tie.
Madeleine smiled, slow and knowing. She crooked her finger at me in a clear *come here* motion. I crossed the room, drawn to her like I always was.
"I don't know what to do, Mady," I said quietly, honestly. "Sharon is my wife. But you... you're my love. That's the truth and I hate that it's the truth."
She reached up and touched my jaw. "For sure I'm your love. And we're going to find a way for you to break up with Sharon without drama. Without destroying everything overnight." Her thumb brushed my cheekbone. "I'm not asking you to blow your life up, Liam. I'm asking you to choose. When you're ready."
She stepped back just enough, reached into the neckline of her dress, and pulled out the thin black string she wore underneath. With a wicked little smile she threw it directly at my face.
I caught it. The scrap of lace was warm from her body. I looked at it, then at her.
She blinked once, slowly. "I'm naked under this dress, Liam."
I bit my lip, blood rushing south. "You're gonna be naked in a few seconds, babe."
I grabbed her by the waist and threw her back onto the sofa. She landed with a breathless laugh that turned into a gasp as I shoved the silk dress up her thighs. No panties. Just smooth, bare skin and her pretty pink clit already glistening. I pressed two fingers against it and rubbed slow, firm circles.
"Fuck, Liam-" Madeleine moaned, hips twitching up into my hand.
I kept rubbing, watching her face, the way her curls spilled across the cushions and her lips parted. Then I dragged the dress higher and over her head in one rough motion. It joined her thong somewhere on the floor. She was completely naked now, flushed and perfect, the diamond ring still sparkling on her finger like a claim.
I lowered my mouth to one full breast and sucked her nipple hard, tongue flicking over the tight peak while my fingers slid down and pushed inside her. She was soaked. Two fingers sank in easily, curling, stroking that spot that always made her lose it. Her walls clenched around me and she moaned louder, back arching.
I pulled back only long enough to rip my belt open. My cock sprang free, thick and painfully hard, the head already slick. Madeleine's eyes dropped to it, dark with want.
I pushed her thighs wider, lined myself up, and entered her slowly, smoothly - inch by inch - letting her feel every thick centimetre stretching her open. Her moan was long and broken as I bottomed out, buried to the hilt inside her tight heat.
"God, Mady..." I groaned.
We came together in a desperate kiss, tongues sliding, teeth nipping. I started moving - deep, rolling strokes that made her breasts bounce and her nails dig into my back. The wet sound of our bodies meeting filled the room along with her soft, filthy moans against my mouth. Every thrust pushed her deeper into the sofa, her ginger curls wild, the ring cold against my skin where she gripped my shoulder.
I fucked her harder, faster, sucking on her tongue while I drove into her again and again. She clenched around my cock like she never wanted to let me go.
Afterward she lay with her head on my chest, curls spread across my skin, the ring catching the low gold light of the bedside lamp. My hand moved slowly through her hair.
"We're going to be okay," she murmured against my chest. "You and me. We'll figure it out."
I covered her hand with mine and stared at the ceiling.
I wanted to believe her.
I almost did.
And then-
A sound.
Small. Almost nothing.
The soft, unmistakable click of a key turning in the front door.
Madeleine lifted her head instantly. Her eyes found mine in the dim light.
I sat up.
We stared at each other in the sudden terrible silence of two people who have just realized that the world they had been pretending didn't exist-
Had just let itself in.
