Lana's POV

Jones and Thomas Firms
11: 40 AM
Lana returned to work with Anna, feeling the taste of the strawberry milkshake on her tongue, having a sudden craving for one despite resisting the urge to walk down to the coffee machine in the room and get drunk on coffee once more. Yet Anna was making sure she behaved like Avery even if she always found it amusing to see him do something different in front of everyone despite knowing her brother was in Lana's body.
"Control yourself, L." Anna pinched her cheeks, offering her a balm of relief from boredom by keeping her busy with chatter, making sure to keep the conversation as meaningful as possible even if she was controlling the urge to ramble about how hobbies but refrained from doing such, since she knew how Lana's mind tended to travel when not giving stimulation despite it being less obvious due to her reserved nature. The brunette eventually left as she had other cases to handle, typically having Carl scare most of their co-workers without fail, feeding her muffins to keep her quiet before she tried to apologize for his actions despite not being obligated to it.
The current host of Avery's body gave up after a few minutes passed. Looking blankly at the desk with typing and breathing sounds breaking the silence of the room, since Anna fixed the mess she caused of Avery's files, and she wasn't looking at anything that related to law as she found it confusing and she decided to get lost in her thoughts to keep herself busy like always. Don't get her wrong, she was grateful for the law in some respects and respecting the people that willingly learnt it like Avery and his sister, but she could never find herself personally learning it on her own.
Law was broad and extensive like science, covering many aspects like Criminal law, corporate law, Labor law, administrative law, Civil law and Constitutional law. Same as how Science had natural, social and formal science, followed by multiple under such branches. But in Lana's defense, she may not be the most organized person around but even if she would never go for Law. Science had actual laws and theories that were accepted everywhere, unchangeable unless a hypothesis was tested repeatedly to be validated as a fact and a new discovery for human evolution would be added.
Law changed or differentiated between cities, states and countries all the time. So, she wondered if an immigrant lawyer would always have to read on the constitution of the country they are moving to, constantly confusing the laws of their home cities or countries to their new homes.
Ding.
Stop questioning my career, it's giving me a headache from all the rambling.
- Lana.
Lana noticed she was going on a mental rant again, quickly apologizing to Avery by test, since it was an old habit of hers. Eventually, she was standing up from the desk to explore the firm, since she was going to die of boredom if she remained in one place alone.
Stop loitering. It's making it hard for me to focus on what I am doing right now. Which is trying to rail in these idiots that your father picked as friends.
- Lana
Can't help it. I am really bored, and you can't confine me to your office for the rest of the day. Stop insulting them, I don't need them questioning my sudden boldness and reason to be upfront out of nowhere.
- Avery
She frowned with his face, the firm was suffocating her with its calm environment, making her be overcome with boredom and look for a task that could distract her till further notice.
Maybe work on your communication skills, Love. You aren't learning anything but running away from conversations. Nor by allowing them to have their way simply because your father cares for them. It doesn't work in the same way.
- Lana
She could practically hear the sarcasm dripping from his voice despite talking to him through text. Her gaze was focused on the basketball court outside of the firm, looking at it with interest, quickly blocking out those thoughts before Avery sensed them.
Maybe you should work on yours first, hypocrite. And I can try to handle this in my own way without it ending up in a law suit due to my ego, good day.
- Avery
Lana turned off his phone immediately before he responded back to the jab she made at him, going outside of the firm to check out the field and expecting the grounds, feeling happy to be in an open space, tugging her sleeves up and picked up the ball on the court, bouncing it on the court, letting the ball move down her arms expertly, still possessing her muscle memory for the game.
"You actually play basketball, L?" She turned around to find herself facing Carl, waving back at him since he was the only other person aware of what was happening between her and Avery. The tanned man shining and basking in the glory of the afternoon sun, very aware of how the scene looked like to everyone else that wasn't aware. He was playful, a bit too draining for her taste, but she didn't mind right now. Plus, it would be fun to get back at Avery for acting out of line when he said the same thing for her but did the exact opposite like always.
"How long do you have till you and Anna switch places again?" She tossed him the ball, as they started a quick match in the meantime.
"Tomorrow. I have all my tasks done. So, there is nothing to worry about and I get to mess with a few leeches at work." He grinned, always having the most fun when he messed with people in Anna's body. Lana made no comment on it, simply wondering if extroverts got their laughs by messing with other people, simply feeling glad that she had at least one person to have fun with, while dealing with this.
