The invitation from the Legion of Neutrality that had arrived earlier had been delivered by a weary messenger, dressed in simple clothes, yet carrying himself with a bearing that did not match the humility. He bore marks of battle on his arms and had the look of someone who didn't waste words.
He handed me the scroll without reverence. He simply extended his hand, waited for my signal of acceptance, turned his back, and left.
The seal that closed the invitation was new. No traditional crest. Just three straight, parallel lines, branded by fire.
I broke the seal and read.
