The Upgrade

The war had just recently ended, its echoes still reverberating through the scarred forest and the weary hearts of those who had survived. Now August found himself with something he had not possessed in what felt like years: free time. Time to breathe without the constant threat of imminent death. Time to reflect on how far he had come. Time to examine his own personal development and growth without the pressure of an approaching battle hanging over his head like a guillotine blade.

With the cessation of hostilities, August had seemingly breezed through his personal levels at an unprecedented pace, driven by the intensity of combat and the sheer volume of life-or-death encounters he had survived. Now he stood at the new heights of his personal system, having reached the maximum capacity of what the Administrator had designated as Personal System Level 2. Level 50. The pinnacle of this iteration.

With this achievement came many changes, optimizations, and additional content for him to grow into, features and enhancements that would fundamentally alter how he interacted with his unique system. One such major factor had been carefully deliberated by the Administrator and Manager who oversaw the implementation of this separate system that ran in parallel with the already established World System that governed all life in this realm.

In hindsight, August's Personal System possessed game-like features that simply were not found in the World System. It existed both within and without the World System's scope, like a bug or a cheat that currently only the sole player prospect, August Finn, would be able to access and utilize. The current governing body of the Century system had agreed that such a game-like system possessed its own merits that were not found in the already established and widely used general systems.

So for now, August served as the testbed for this new technological advancement. The guinea pig. The experiment. Until the system was polished enough to be considered for incorporation into the known World System that governed everyone else, he would remain unique. Special. And somewhat isolated in his capabilities.

Personal System Level 2 also dramatically improved the blueprint system. Structures would now possess their own statistics: building health points, durability, defense, even attack values depending on the type of structure. The system could also calculate reduced amounts of materials used and shortened build times when structures had been constructed multiple times, representing the village craftsmen's growing expertise and efficiency.
