Chapter 287 - Chapter 284: Madara

"The third time I met her was when I was the CEO of the Demon Corporation."

"At that time, Lorna was dressed beautifully. My first thought was, 'Lorna has reached the age where she cares about her looks now.'"

"I originally just wanted to chat with her, to know how her life had been recently, but she coldly threw me a glance and said, 'Boss, I'm busy right now,' then walked away without even looking back."

"At the time, I really wanted to string up Tony and beat him. Was this how someone acts when they like me?"

As Kino spoke, a faint smile appeared on his face.

Lorna, sitting nearby, also recalled that moment. It was the first time Kino had approached her. She had been so nervous, completely unsure how to respond, and had only managed to flee the scene in a hurry.

Jenna gradually relaxed and didn't interrupt the conversation between the two men.

"After that, Lorna would dress beautifully every day. Back then, all I could think about on my way to work was: what style would Lorna try today?"

"But she was very busy, unlike me who was just idling around the company, so we didn't interact much."

"The real turning point was when I went to find Tony."

Kino paused slightly, a unique sparkle appearing in his eyes.

"I took her flying through the sky. I noticed her clothes were simple and thought maybe she was short on money, so I considered giving her a raise."

"But who knew she misunderstood me and thought I was looking down on her? She insisted I drop her off halfway."

"I had no choice but to use some less-than-decent tricks to get her to open up to me. It was during that time that her powers awakened."

Kino looked straight into Erik's eyes and spoke sincerely.

"I honestly don't know how much of my feelings for Lorna are about romantic love, but I do know I love her. She's one of the people I'm willing to give my life to protect."

"Is that answer enough for you to entrust her to me, Uncle?"

Erik's pupils trembled, and his expression softened with respect.

"Truth is, I never had the right to interfere. I wasn't there when Lorna was born. When she needed a father as a child, I wasn't there. I wasn't even around for her birthdays."

"I'm a bastard. But I'm also her father. So Kino, never let Lorna cry again."

"I promise," Kino said solemnly.

Erik sat back down and continued the dinner. Charles, nearby, finally breathed a sigh of relief.

To allow this confrontation to happen, Charles had sealed many of Erik's memories about Kino—otherwise, considering what Kino had done for Erik, he would've stayed silent forever.

After dinner ended—

Kino and Lorna prepared to leave, but before going, Lorna walked up to Erik and gently hugged him.

"Dad… thank you."

"…As long as you're not angry with me."

Erik's body stiffened slightly, then he hugged her back tightly.

"But I'm not giving up the title of Magneto."

Lorna smiled, her eyes shining with determination.

"Then you'll have to work hard to earn it," Erik said, smiling as he watched them leave.

In the car, surrounded by darkness, Lorna's ears turned red with embarrassment.

She stole a glance at Kino, who was driving, and his earlier words echoed endlessly in her mind: She's one of the people I'm willing to give my life to protect.

What could be more heartwarming than being loved by the one you love?

Lorna knew clearly—monopolizing Kino was impossible. She came into his life later than others. Besides, given Kino's status and experiences, it was inevitable that he wouldn't only have her by his side.

But in this moment, she was content—eager to treasure this hard-won happiness.

Where would they go next? A hotel? The manor?

If she could choose, she'd rather go back to her small room, where she had long prepared everything she needed.

Venom and Pamela hadn't shown up tonight. Lorna knew exactly what that meant.

And she didn't intend to waste this opportunity.

"Lorna, we're here."

Hearing Kino's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. She looked out the car window and saw a villa with lights still on inside.

"What is this place?" she asked.

"A gift I prepared for you," Kino replied with a smile, holding up a fruit basket he had prepared in advance.

"A gift?" Lorna blinked. Was it this villa?

Kino rang the doorbell and stepped aside.

The door opened, and a black-haired woman who bore about fifty percent resemblance to Lorna appeared.

"Lorna?"

The woman looked at Lorna with a flicker of surprise in her eyes. Though she had seen photos before, seeing her in person made her feel dazed.

"M-Mom… Mom…"

Lorna's voice cracked, tears blurring her vision.

"Mommy's here."

Magda gently stroked Lorna's cheek and softly wiped away her falling tears.

Lorna couldn't hold back her emotions anymore. She threw herself into her mother's arms and broke down, all the longing, grievances, and desire that had built up over the years flooding out in sobs.

(In the original story, Magda abandoned Lorna due to her mutant identity and disappeared. I changed it—now she died in a plane crash.)

Kino stood to the side, watching this touching and heartwarming scene, and quietly placed the fruit basket down.

After calming down a bit, Lorna turned, grabbed Kino's face, and kissed him passionately.

The kiss was intense, full of emotion.

Magda's eyes widened. She hadn't expected her daughter to be so bold—kissing a man that passionately in front of her mother.

It lasted for several minutes before Lorna finally let go, her lips red and swollen, her body feeling a little hot.

"Kino, this is the best gift I've ever received. I love you!"

"I love you too, Lorna."

With Magda as their witness, they confessed their love for each other.

They followed Magda into the villa, where she had already prepared a full table of dishes.

"These were your favorites when you were little. I don't know if you still like them," she said.

"I do. I've always liked them."

Lorna had already eaten dinner, but her appetite came back, and she tried a little of everything.

"Kino, do you have any cold beer?" she asked.

Kino nodded and placed some bottles on the table.

"Mom, let's drink!"

Lorna casually opened a can and gulped down half of it straight from the bottle.

This was her true self—straightforward and uninhibited.

"Lorna, slow down," Magda said with concern. She knew Lorna's life hadn't been easy all these years.

"Okay, Mom."

Lorna obediently picked up a glass and drank more slowly.

Her eyes often drifted toward Kino sitting across from her. Feeling hot, she undid a few buttons of her shirt, revealing a deep scar.

(You know what that implies.)

Kino looked directly at the scar without flinching. There was nothing he couldn't look at on his own woman. He simply felt moved.

Just over a year ago, she had been flat-chested. But now, in just a year, the growth was remarkable. Truly gifted.

Quote of the Chapter:"Some gifts cannot be wrapped. They come with healing, closure, and love rediscovered."
