Chapter 260 - Chapter 259: Why Should I Save Him?

The Flash had just walked in when he saw the chaotic scene before him. He stood there, completely stunned, having no clue what had just happened.

Martian Manhunter and Hawkman stood back up, ready to resume the fight.

The Flash quickly jumped between them.

"Wait! Why are you guys fighting?"

"He's one of Darkseid's people. He must be killed," Hawkman explained, recognizing the Flash.

"What the f***? He's someone I brought here to help! Since when is he working for Darkseid?" the Flash swore in disbelief.

Darkseid had just blown up this guy's head a moment ago. How could he possibly be one of his people?

Hearing this, everyone else—who had been struggling to get back on their feet to resume the fight—suddenly froze. Their expressions grew awkward.

"You brought him? Then who the hell yelled that he was with Darkseid?" Hawkman's face instantly darkened like ink. He realized he had been misled. He'd made a huge mistake.

Zatanna, her head still spinning, also froze when she heard that. Instead of trying to get back up, she just lay back down. She didn't know anything anymore, and frankly, she didn't want to deal with anything either.

Doctor Fate shook his head helplessly. This old body of his really was suffering today.

Martian Manhunter, seeing the costume Keno was wearing—which bore a resemblance to Superman's—tried to peek into his mind.

"I'll say this once. Anyone who dares to invade my mind, I don't care who you are—you. Will. Die."

Keno seemed to sense Martian Manhunter's intent and shot him a cold look.

That single glance sent a wave of deathly chill through Martian Manhunter. He couldn't help but shiver, feeling like death itself had brushed past him.

The others silently got back to their feet. For a moment, no one knew what to say.

After all, they were the ones who attacked first. Getting beaten this badly? They had no one to blame but themselves.

Still… they were secretly glad.

So many of them together couldn't take him down.

That meant this guy was a serious powerhouse.

"What's your name, anyway?" the Flash finally asked, realizing he'd never actually gotten it.

"Keno. This is my lover—Venom."

Keno's lips curled into a small smile. He gestured beside him with his hand, wearing a soft, gentle expression.

Everyone glanced awkwardly at the Flash.

Is this helper of yours all there in the head?

The Flash scratched his head awkwardly, trying to ease the tension.

Just then, Keno's suit began to shift—as if it had a life of its own.

The black material started to move, flowing like a liquid down from his arm to the ground.

This eerie sight made everyone tense up again. They instantly snapped into a defensive stance, eyes glued to the shifting black matter with wary eyes.

The black goo pooled on the ground and slowly began to reshape itself. In no time at all, it transformed into a beautiful woman with long black hair and a black dress.

She had a graceful figure, snow-white skin, and her hand gently rested on Keno's. Her gaze carried a hint of seduction and mystery.

"She is my lover—Venom."

Everyone went speechless upon seeing this. The room fell into complete silence.

After all, humans are visual creatures.

No matter how tense or hostile the situation had been, the moment something stunning enough appeared before their eyes, all that hostility and suspicion melted away into an inexplicable fondness.

"We're from a parallel universe," Keno said. "We came here at the request of the Flash to save this world. But after it's over, all of you from the Justice League must agree to one condition."

"Justice League? Also, if your condition is to rule the world, then we won't agree to it," Wonder Woman said warily.

"It's fine. I don't think Keno is a bad guy. He seems more like a superhero," the Flash added.

"The Justice League is a team formed by Batman to combat great threats. In your normal timeline, you'd beat Darkseid and then form the Justice League," Keno explained.

"Oh, and by the way, my nickname is the Demon King."

He didn't hold back as he smacked the Flash's credibility.

Demon King?

That name didn't exactly sound heroic.

Especially not to magic-based heroes like Doctor Fate and Zatanna. As they felt the aura Keno gave off, their mouths twitched slightly.

This guy was the real deal—straight-up Hell's Satan.

How the hell did the Flash find this guy?

"Keno, do you really want to rule this world?" the Flash asked, ignoring the others.

He trusted the Demon King who had saved him twice now.

"How boring. No matter what world you're from, you're always this naive. Fine, let's change the deal. I'll make a request that doesn't cross your lines. But in return, you all must help me persuade Superman and Batman to fulfill my request."

Keno snapped his fingers. Contracts appeared in front of everyone.

After all, he never actually planned on ruling the world.

His purpose here was to have fun and collect some dirt on the Justice League. He already had plenty of ideas lined up.

"Thank you, Keno," the Flash smiled after glancing at the contract. He signed immediately, then asked curiously, "Was I close to you in your world?"

"In the parallel universe, you're my little bro."

"Little bro?"

"Yup. You even called me 'Big Bro Keno.' Otherwise, do you think I'd have saved you?"

"…Thank you, Big Bro Keno."

While the two of them talked, the others glanced at the contracts in their hands.

Doctor Fate and Zatanna exchanged looks and nodded.

They chose to sign it.

Even though they didn't trust a literal Demon King to be a good guy, he did have a reputation for keeping his word.

Seeing this, the others followed suit and signed as well.

Survival first—regret could come later.

They had no idea how much they'd come to regret this decision.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

A sharp alarm went off.

The mood in the room grew grim.

The Flash looked through the glass of a life-support chamber and saw the child inside.

"What's going on? I'm sure I evacuated all the women and children from the city."

He was confident he hadn't missed anyone.

"That's Shazam. The form you saw earlier was his transformed state. In reality, he's just a child. He transformed to save me," Wonder Woman said with guilt in her voice.

"Move aside. Let me take a look."

Keno stepped over and examined the situation. The Omega Effect lingered in the kid's soul. Without the power of Shazam protecting him, he would've died already.

It made him wonder—could the power of Shazam from another world remain in someone's body?

"Keno Bro, can you save him?" the Flash asked.

"I can. But what will you pay me for saving him?"

Keno was direct.

He could help—but it would cost them.

The others immediately lowered their heads and scrambled to search through their belongings.

But aside from their weapons, they barely had any supplies left.

For a moment, no one could find anything they could offer as payment.

Quote of the Chapter:"The price of salvation is rarely free; even heroes must sometimes barter with devils."
