Clare POV:
Reed chuckled, a smooth, almost melodic sound that made me feel stupid for even thinking I had imagined it all. "Nah, man," he replied, his tone light and casual. "Those are just myths invented by people with weird minds."
I almost wanted to die. Like, right there on the spot. It felt like all my worst fears were coming true. My face was on fire, and I couldn't stop my eyes from darting between Clark and Reed, wishing that the ground would open up and swallow me whole.
And then, Reed, of course, had to go and point it out. "Is your sister okay?" he asked, his brow furrowing with concern as he turned his gaze toward me. "She's really red."
Great. Just great. Now I was practically glowing under the pressure. I was covering my face with my hair, desperately trying to hide the fact that I was absolutely mortified.
