Chapter 40: The Hunt for the Heralds
The thousand heralds knelt on the threshold of the portal, their bodies shrouded in a veil of shadows. Daichi stood in front, his head bowed, waiting for his mistress's last blessing.
Death watched him indifferently, his ethereal silhouette hovering above him.
"Remember, Daichi," he murmured with an enigmatic smile, "if you want to be mine, you must not fail."
He nodded frantically, his gaze burning with uncontrollable fanaticism.
"I will not fail, my lady. I'll kill them. I promise you.
She snapped her fingers.
The portal opened with a roar.
Without hesitation, Daichi entered.

On a state-of-the-art television, in an elegant meeting room, a female voice resonated with energy.
"Last minute!" The streets have witnessed unprecedented carnage. The bodies of several individuals, including wanted criminals, were found in conditions that defy logic.
The images were shocking. Fragments of flesh scattered on the ground, traces of blood forming chaotic patterns.
The news anchor continued with a smile strangely animated for the kind of news she was giving.
"Among those responsible for this bloody scene are two individuals already known for their involvement in recent events. Their identities have not yet been confirmed, but witnesses claim to have seen one figure carrying a war hammer and another wielding a sword.
The image changed, showing a low-quality video showing one of the attackers crushing someone with a heavy weapon, while the other silhouette slashed with lethal precision at another enemy.

The video of the carnage spread like wildfire through the internet.
At the headquarters of the League of Heroes, a group of imposing figures watched the broadcast.
"This is crazy," one of the leaders whispered.
"Those individuals have crossed the line. We cannot ignore it.
A high-ranking hero looked at the scene with a frown.
Aurion - (The Overlord)
"And if they continue to kill like this..." Sooner or later, we will have to intervene.
Meanwhile, in the dark corners of the city, the villains laughed with amusement.
"Interesting," one whispered, with a crooked smile.
"If this continues, the world will need more than heroes to stop them.
The chaos was spreading.
And the real hunt was just beginning.
