Chapter 301 - Chapter 298: Gears of Fate

Akihiro lay sprawled in the shallow water, mud streaking his face and clothes.

Itachi stepped forward, extending a hand. "You fought well. Better than I expected."

Before Akihiro could respond, Kaia rushed over, her eyes wide with concern and pride. She pulled her twin upright, water sloshing around them. Akihiro's hands moved weakly in sign language, and Kaia translated, her voice breathless. "He says thank you. Next time, he'll win."

Itachi chuckled softly. "I look forward to it."

Ryu glanced at Jiyuu, who was already moving toward the water's edge, cane in hand. "Jiyuu, if you would."

Jiyuu nodded, forming hand seals with practised precision. [Water Release: Water Fountain Jutsu]. A controlled stream of clean water arced through the air, washing the mud from Akihiro's face and clothes. The boy flinched slightly at the sudden cold of the water but then signed his thanks.

Ryu stepped forward, clapping once. "Well done. Akihiro, keep this up—growth like this will make you unstoppable."

Ryu glanced at Itachi, noting the slight curiosity in the Uchiha's eyes. "Thanks for this. You gave him exactly the challenge he needed—and held back just enough to let him learn."

"It was my pleasure," Itachi replied, brushing water from his sleeve.

Ryu gestured towards the arena. "Want another round? I could use the workout."

Itachi shook his head, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Maybe another time. I've had my enjoyment for today." With a respectful nod, he turned and disappeared into the treeline, moving like smoke through shadow.

Ryu clapped his hands once, drawing everyone's attention. "Alright, everyone—back to training."

Kaia declared, "I'm returning to meditation. There's no way I'll allow my younger brother to surpass me."

Akihiro managed a tired smile.

Ryu's gaze shifted to Akihiro, who was still breathing heavily, water dripping from his clothes. "Akihiro, take a rest. Catch your breath, and think about the fight you just had. What went right, what went wrong—reflect on it."

Akihiro's hands moved slowly in sign language and said, "Okay."

Ryu nodded. "Good. I'll join you."

The others returned to their stations. Ryu watched them for a moment, ensuring they were focused, before turning back to Akihiro. The boy had moved to the shade of a large tree at the field's edge, sitting cross-legged on the grass, his chest still rising and falling with exertion.

Ryu walked over and sat beside him, keeping a respectful distance. Akihiro signed a quick question.

"No, she's not watching," Ryu assured him. "She's deep in chakra meditation. Eyes closed."

Akihiro relaxed slightly, then hesitated before signing again. "Is he… Is Itachi a child of prophecy?"

Ryu leant back against the tree trunk, considering his words carefully. "No. But he's connected to someone who is—one of the pair destined to shape this world's future."

Ryu waited for a moment and said, "Itachi... he's something different from a child of prophecy. Someone who carries the weight of destiny without the recognition. He will have a tough life ahead."

Akihiro's hands moved faster now, curiosity overcoming caution. "What happened to him?"

A flicker of something—guilt, perhaps, or frustration—crossed Ryu's face. Knowing the future didn't make it easier. Sometimes it made it worse. He could see the paths, the potential tragedies, but changing them... that was another matter entirely.

Ryu's expression grew sombre. He didn't want to give away complete spoilers, but he refused to lie. "He had to make choices for the sake of his village—choices that required him to bear hatred, shoulder pain alone, and make sacrifices most people can't even imagine. All whilst his sacrifices went unrecognised, unknown. He died a hero, but no one knew him as anything other than a villain."

Akihiro's hands trembled as he signed the next question. "Can we change that future?"

Ryu exhaled slowly. "I've thought of ways. But every path I've considered has a high probability of leading to something darker."

Akihiro frowned, not understanding.

"There are theories about time," Ryu began. "One is called the butterfly effect. A small change now might not seem to matter, but in the long term, it can have enormous consequences. Then there's the river and dam theory." He paused, ensuring Akihiro was following. "Time is like a river. Minor corrections—small sticks dropped in—won't block the flow. The river adjusts around them. But drop enough big ones, build a dam, and you divert the entire current."

Akihiro's hands moved slowly, processing. Small changes don't matter?

"Not always," Ryu clarified. "Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't. Time is a complicated thing. One cannot be sure how things will unfold." His gaze drifted to the distant training ground. "I can only predict things—predictions that may or may not come true. But still... I cannot ignore some darker predictions."

He paused, watching Akihiro's face for understanding. "Then I have another theory—that time itself is conscious. And it fights back like a living entity when you try to change too much."

Akihiro's hands shaped a single word: Fate?

Ryu smiled faintly, a sad, knowing smile. "Maybe. Or maybe time is just... uncertain. I don't know which theory is more prevalent."

Ryu's mind turned to the question that had been nagging at him. "He was able to fight him only because Itachi was holding back. How can I make them stronger?"

"Eight gates?...no."

He quickly dismissed the Eight Gates. It was too dangerous, even for someone with his healing abilities.

"The Senju-style taijutsu? …no… I cannot pass that on. I will be found out eventually. I don't want to be the first to be tried for breaking the Secret Jutsu Act."

His gaze drifted across the training ground, settling on Kaia. She sat perfectly still, the leaf on her forehead unmoving, chakra circulating with focused control.

An idea sparked.

What if, instead of activating chakra only during combat, he kept it active all the time?

Ryu closed his eyes briefly, feeling the familiar warmth spread through his neural pathways as his abilities activated.

-[Temporary Enhance] working on [Fast Thinking] and [Parallel Thinking]

-[Overclocking] enabled

His mind surged into overdrive. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself standing at the threshold of his Mind Palace—the vast, endless void stretching before him, knowledge bubbles floating like luminous constellations.

A translucent screen materialised, displaying the concept:

In his mental space, a translucent dummy body materialised before him, its chakra rotating slowly, its chakra network glowing in brilliant blue.

He remembered an old story from his past life. Goku and Gohan emerging from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in Dragon Ball Z. They had normalised Super Saiyan as their base form, making the transformation effortless and paving the way for even greater power and higher transformations. What if he could do the same with chakra?

-Analysing concept: Perpetual Chakra Circulation

-Running simulations...

-Progress: 10%... 30%... 60%... 90%... 100%

The dummy body's pathways flared, then stress fractures appeared in red along key tenketsu points as Ryu simulated the active cycle for hours' worth of stimulated time in just a few seconds.

-ANALYSIS COMPLETE

-Concept Viability: 87.3% (Conditional)

-Primary Risk: Microtearing in the chakra network at prolonged exposure when the body is not ready.

-Mitigation Strategy: Gradual Exposure + [InstinctGPT] assisted fine chakra control

-Probable benefits: gradual chakra capacity increase, gradual widening of chakra pathways

"Benefit similar to [Senju-style Taijutsu]… If I declared this as my family secret jutsu, that would not be a problem. I can teach this one to Toshiro to prove this concept as my original. I also owe them for teaching me [Senju-style Taijutsu]."

Just then another idea followed because Ryu had thought of Goku while imagining this new jutsu.

"What about something like Kaioken.....a momentary surge?"

Then a memory surfaced—Naruto tapping into the Nine-Tails' chakra during the Chunin Exams finals against Neji. Normally, chakra was like a pond: still, waiting to be stirred. But in that moment, Naruto's chakra had been like a river, flowing and circulating at incredible speed. Giving Naruto a boost in power and speed.

Ryu ran another simulation.

-Analysing theory: Elevated Chakra Cycle Rates

-Running comprehensive simulations...

-Progress: 20%... 50%... 80%... 100%

The dummy's chakra network transitioned from slow, steady pulses to rapid, continuous circulation—like blood through a racing heart.

-RESULT: Feasible with controlled implementation.

-WARNING: Higher cycles = higher strain. Gradual adaptation is required for safe usage.

-Benefits: Increase chakra capacity. Wider chakra pathways. Explosive power like [Senju Taijutsu].

-[Overclocking] disabled

Ryu returned to reality, the mental strain hitting him, but a satisfied smile spread across his face.

A plan began to form.

Step One: Train the body to keep the chakra active for extended periods, even at rest. His mental enhancement techniques—[InstinctGPT] and its variants—could help maintain focus, keeping chakra circulating in a constant, battle-ready mode.

Step Two: Gradually increase the cycle rate. Push the limits, but not recklessly.

Step Three: Maintain higher cycles for longer durations. The longer one could hold an elevated state, the safer it would be to push to even higher levels.

Ryu calculated the risks. Maintaining the base cycle wouldn't be dangerous, just difficult. But the higher cycles? Those carried real danger. He would have to test them on himself first. His Uzumaki lineage provided enhanced recovery, and he could temporarily amplify his [Minor Healing] into [Super Healing] during the more dangerous tests—capabilities his students didn't possess.

"Now I just needed a name . A jutsu is incomplete without a proper name."

Ryu took a moment, considering the possibilities. The technique involved keeping chakra constantly active, circulating like an engine. And the different levels—the varying cycle rates—could be thought of as gears, each one pushing performance higher.

"[Chakra Engine]. That would be the foundation technique—the perpetual circulation that kept chakra flowing at all times."

"[Gears] of the [Chakra Engine]. The elevated states, each level increasing cycle speed and power output."

Ryu nodded to himself, satisfied. "Okay, the simulation tells me it's possible... now let's think on how I am going to achieve these two jutsu and make them a reality. I need to perform further tests."

Meanwhile, in the Uchiha Compound, some time after leaving Ryu's training ground, Itachi arrived at the main Uchiha compound. The Uchiha fan crest hung prominently on the wall, its red and white surface reflecting the evening lamplight. Inside, his father, Fugaku, sat at a low table strewn with mission reports, their seals glinting in the warm glow. Shisui Uchiha was there too, having just finished his own debriefing.

"How did your mission go?" Fugaku asked without looking up.

"It was a standard C-rank," Itachi replied. "Afterwards, I went to see Ryu for a spar."

Shisui perked up. "Oh? How did that go?"

"We didn't fight," Itachi said calmly. "But I sparred with one of his students—a blind boy. Akihiro."

Fugaku finally looked up, his expression unreadable. "So the rumours are true. A private academy. Not under the Hokage or Danzo." He paused, dark eyes narrowing. "If this continues, they'll become a significant power in a few years."

Fugaku leant forward. "How was the fight?"

Itachi recounted the duel with clinical precision, describing Akihiro's sensory techniques, his rapid adaptation, and Ryu's unknown teaching methods he described as the family's secret. Both Fugaku and Shisui listened intently, but their expressions shifted to surprise when Itachi continued.

"I also noticed several others. Two in wheelchairs—one with both legs amputated. One more person, fragile, walking with a cane. Another person with dwarfism. And a pair of twins—one is blind and mute, the other I suspect is deaf."

No one spoke. Shisui finally broke the tension. "Someone as brilliant as Ryu... he must see something we don't. Something beyond their limitations."

Itachi spoke, "There must be something special about this family's secret he talked about."

Shisui straightened, a faint smile crossing his face. "He must be even stronger than last time. Maybe I should ask for a duel."

Itachi glanced at Shisui. "Be careful. Ryu doesn't reveal everything in friendly combat."

Shisui chuckled. "I wouldn't expect anything less from him."
