After careful inquiry, Zhang Ge learned that it wasn't the case that the Battle Servitors had obtained the authority to burn down several nests' tower apexes just because he had been gone for a day or two; rather, they had taken advantage of the order to burn the tower apexes to eliminate a batch of nobles.
So where did the order to burn the tower apexes come from?
Hyberia Sector, Sky Eagle Port.
Indeed, the commands had originated from the political center of this planet.
According to Penelope's description, in the orders issued, Calgar declared that a large number of tower apex areas had lost their salvageable value due to the chaotic aerial invasion. To reposition military forces to more critical locations, he ordered that the nests' tower apexes still within control zones be burned.
The burning of the tower apexes isn't something that can be halted quickly; it could take days at the least, or even months or years akin to a forest fire. This would not only potentially eliminate enemies still within the tower apex region but also reduce the landing zones for enemy airborne forces.
However, the problem was, hadn't he just seized the Revenge's Soul a day or two ago? Perhaps Abaddon hadn't fled at all but had relocated to another warship with plans to bring his entire family along?
Or did Abaddon truly escape? It seemed plausible that after facing various forms of resistance from the nobility, Calgar, recognizing the importance of this planet and the necessity of organizing future defenses, might have rushed to unify the nobles while he could still justify using Chaos.
Of course, these were mere speculations; the actual situation would need to be clarified later.
Just as Zhang Ge relaxed a bit and intended to return to his quarters, a finger in the distance pressed the trigger.
A starmetal dart shot out at high speed from the firearm's muzzle. If nothing went wrong, this monomolecular shard would effortlessly pierce the armored helmet and fragment Zhang Ge's brain within the next moment.
However, there was more than one unexpected factor present.
As Amilia shielded Zhang Ge, she extended her palm, covered in power armor, forward and crushed the starmetal dart as it approached her; a flash of exploding blue light flickered in the palm of her hand.
At that moment, Perveti realized that the newly sensed creature that had seemed distant was also an "enemy."
It was fleeing, but far too slowly—she could catch up.
In the next instant, Perveti's figure vanished from her location, hurtling straight toward the foe.
As she flew past the camp's structures, she didn't bother with even a slight evasive maneuver; dodging was merely for sidestepping obstacles, but to her, the distinction between those fragile ceramite buildings and the air was negligible, so there was no need for evasion.
Her speed was unimpeded, as she straightened her trajectory to pierce through the buildings, leaving circular openings shattered within the walls.
Simultaneously, her flight path became marked with a meteor-like dazzling brilliance—not caused by herself, but from her incredible speed colliding with the ceramite, instantly shredding and melting the metal.
It was so swift that a portion of the ceramite at the impact point melted into liquid metal under the conversion of internal energy, ultimately caught up in the wake she left behind.
The Eldar Maiden attempting the sniping had barely activated her time device when she was seized around the waist, lifted into the air, and... promptly lost consciousness.
This was, of course, a result of Perveti's deliberate control; even through the thin armor of the opponent, she could "hear" the flow of blood, the friction of muscles, the beating of the heart, and even the movement of the intestines, allowing her to gauge the target's overall physical strength. Accordingly, she reduced her speed at the end, leaving just enough impact to knock the creature unconscious without causing a fatality.
"So this is an enemy."
Holding the Eldar Maiden as one would a doll, she scrutinized her from top to bottom, then picked up the long rod used to launch the projectile with her other hand and began her return.
It wasn't until Perveti started heading back that Zhang Ge finally reacted:
I was just attacked!
For an ordinary person, the reaction speed was far too slow for the two superhumans involved. Most didn't even realize an assassination attempt had occurred; it was only when Penelope and the captain of the guards turned solemn and called for the surrounding soldiers that a large-scale defensive operation commenced.
First, a swarm of Battle Servitors burst forth from somewhere, wielding not the previously used laser guns but arc rifles obtained from some unknown source. Next, the Guardsmen activated the alarms, echoing throughout the camp. Finally, when the heavily armored elite forces encircled Zhang Ge, forming a circle of iron walls, Perveti began her descent from the air.
This time, she rarely posed a question; instead, she suggested:
"Father, eliminate her."
Zhang Ge felt no significant emotional turmoil regarding the assassination attempt; just a slight regret that it hadn't succeeded. Upon seeing the attacker, that regret deepened.
What a pity, an Eldar sniper—there aren't many chances to be killed by that thing.
"Don't rush; remove her helmet first."
"Understood."
Perveti didn't open the Eldar Maiden's helmet as expected; instead, she placed her palm over it and squeezed gently.
A crisp crunch echoed.
However, when she released her grip, it didn't yield only a messy red-and-yellow mush; the force was just enough to crush the Eldar's hard yet brittle helmet, without injuring her head.
Zhang Ge took a look.
It was an old acquaintance.
It was the same Eldar Maiden who had attacked him on the ship, but this time he was not alone in action.
"Let's imprison her for now; I have some questions to ask her. By the way, have the guards cancel the alarm quickly; we don't want to alarm too many people. If anyone asks, say I returned to conduct an emergency drill, checking if your training has been lacking. Remember? Go quickly."
Time passed as night slowly enveloped the area.
In a room deep within the camp where no detectors could find, the Eldar Maiden gradually opened her eyes.
She had intended to activate her armor's self-destruct bomb but found she was now left with only a rough thin garment. Trying to bite through the poison, she realized that the teeth containing it had been entirely pulled out.
Her limbs were bound, making any struggle pointless. The room was populated with several Guardsmen, and that was just the visible presence—without external help, her chances of escape were negligible.
Just as despair began to set in, the door slowly opened.
Four figures walked leisurely into the room.
