Chapter 163: Onto the Main Chamber

"Did you say that this is the Chamber of Secrets?!" Andromeda gasped.

"Guys… forget about that. What are we doing with the snake?" Sirius pointed at the skeleton that was getting dangerously close.

"It's a basilisk… or at least it was." Bella pointed her wand at it. "And we are going to have to destroy it before it kills us."

"What are you thinking? A Bombarda will do?" Andromeda asked, while she also pointed her wand.

"Why wouldn't it? It's just a pile of bones," Sirius said.

"Here, you hold him." Bella handed Primum to Sirius.

"What?! Why do I have to hold this weird creature?" Sirius complained.

"Can you use demolition charms?" Bella asked.

Sirius remained silent.

"That's why." Bella pushed Primum onto Sirius's arms before turning around to face the creature attacking them.

The basilisk skeleton was hitting the walls of the narrow corridor as it moved. With one last push, it reached the area where Bella and the others had become trapped.

"Bella, come on." Andromeda did her best to hide her concern and focused on casting her spell.

"Ready." Bella aimed her wand and put as much magic as she could muster.

"Bombarda Maxima!" the two sisters shouted in unison.

The demolition charms should have been able to decimate a thick brick wall with little effort, but when they hit the surface of the basilisk bones, they only managed to produce some slight cracks on them.

"Impossible!" Andromeda was in shock. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"The bones must be reinforced…" Bella was not too surprised by this.

After all, James was the one who put that skeleton there to serve as the protector of the chamber. But this also meant that they had no way to stop it.

Behind them, the door had been sealed shut so they could not return using the same way they came in. And in front of them was the basilisk, leaving them with nowhere to go.

"Διασπώ (Break)"

The spine of the massive snake snapped in half all of a sudden and completely stopped its movement before it could reach the girls.

"Whoa!" Sirius exclaimed. "The snake broke!"

"Who did that?" Andromeda asked. By the sound of that voice she just heard, it was very evident that it had not been James; otherwise, that would have been her first guess.

"That won't last. You need to hurry up." The voice came from above them.

Andromeda and Sirius were looking everywhere for whoever had just saved them.

"Nyxaris." Bella called for the magical fairy. "What happened to you all? Why is Primum so injured?" Just then, she got a better look at the small creature and was able to perceive that just like the chimera, Nyxaris also looked to be in a terrible state.

"I don't have time to explain. The basilisk bones have an auto-repair enchantment on them. It will only take a minute or two to move again. And I'm kinda low on power right now," the fairy said.

"Is that really a fairy? I didn't know they could talk," Sirius asked.

"She is so adorable!" Andromeda gushed.

"Why did you bring these two in here? You do realize that they are the ones who triggered the defenses, right?" Nyxaris pointed at them.

Bella had nothing to rebuke. She knew that it had been a mistake on her part. "I was just worried for—"

"Never mind, it's too late for regrets." Nyxaris huffed. "My Master could use some help right now. You need to get into the main chamber."

"How? Everything is sealed," Andromeda asked.

"The door is indeed damaged, so it won't open." The fairy pointed up. "There is a small gap that goes through the ceiling of the chamber."

"There's a gap up there?" Sirius couldn't quite see it.

Nyxaris glanced at Primum, who was now resting on Sirius's arms. "It wasn't there before… that little guy just made it so he could go ask for help."

Bella's eyes went to Primum. Whatever happened here had left him tremendously hurt, but even then, he had gone through the effort to carve a tunnel into the rock so he could go look for her.

Andromeda threw a ball of light towards the ceiling.

"I see the hole now… geez, how are we going to get up there? I cannot fly like James does."

"Wait, I know!" Sirius took something out of his pocket. "James taught me how to keep my broom miniaturized so I can always carry it around with me."

"Great! We can use this to get up there." Bella hurried to take it and remove the shrinking charms that were placed on it.

The broom returned to its normal size. "I'll go first and then drop the broom for you." Bella grabbed onto the wooden handle and rose herself into the air until she reached the small opening that Primum had created.

It appeared that the stone had been melted to create a tunnel that had around two feet of diameter, just enough for a person to crawl inside.

She handed the broom to her sister and began to make her way through the tunnel, using a light charm to see where she was putting her hands.

As she advanced, Bella could hear Sirius and Andromeda entering the tunnel, but she moved ahead because she was getting more and more concerned about James's condition.

Whatever occurred to him was enough to put Primum in such a desperate state, and despite Nyxaris's ability to conceal her emotions, Bella could tell that the fairy was worried as well.

"Urg!" She began to feel the tunnel becoming increasingly hotter as she crawled deeper into it.

Then, all of a sudden, she was starting to get hit by a wave of extremely hot air.

After applying a cooling charm on herself, she pushed ahead, already seeing a light at the end. The last part of the tunnel seemed to go on a deep descent.

"Just a bit more…" She saw the exit getting closer and closer. The stone beneath her hands and feet was now hot enough to burn her skin. The only thing preventing this were the protective charms she had cast on herself.

Reaching the exit, she found herself on one of the walls of the main chamber, just a few feet above the ground.

But the moment she looked at the center of the room, she was shocked by what she saw.
