Amanda found him after dinner.
Not in his room, not in the library, but in the narrow stairwell at the back of the east dormitory block that nobody used because it smelled like old paint and led to a storage floor that was always locked. Leo had discovered it three weeks ago and had been using it whenever he needed five minutes of actual quiet, which was becoming more frequent than he would like to admit.
She was just there when he turned around. Standing two steps below him, hands clasped in front of her, hair currently a dark auburn that he was fairly sure was not the colour from this morning. Her eyes were steady in that particular way they got when she was not performing anything, not the playful shifting energy she carried around Rosa and Jade, just her, looking at him directly without the usual layer of something in between.
"Were you trying to die in that training room," she said.
