Chapter 6 - Pride as monsters

They say too many overdoses of medicine are poison. Not sure why people get addicted to it, but the fact that they could not stop was a problem. As soon as Hector stated his disapproval of his job, the drug addict man fainted, with foam forming in his mouth.

Turns out Hector wasn't as ruthless as one of his subordinates described him. A middle-aged General knew the man wasn't in a state to talk, so he just in case had a doctor waiting for him behind the door.

"God knows when the third generation is going to contact, Cora's phone is also silent, I'm trying to reach her, but she won't pick up", said Hector's trusted unit's captain, Kalvec. The man ran his hand over his blond hair as he proceeded to call again.

"It's not going to work. There must be a reason for them not to contact us," said Hector as he proceeded to walk down the hallway. " Have you got any news from Monarc?"

"No, sir. Right now, our units are still observing the base. No movement has been recorded, yet".

They walked towards the monitor room, Kelvec scanned his entry card, only to find a man with dead pale skin, constantly staring at the computer screen.

"Guess someone is trying so hard to be employee of the month". Kelvec enters and pats the back of a not-so-dead man.

"If it helps to pay the bills, then I see no harm in doing so", backfired Monarc, a man in his thirties trying to make a living.

"Leave him alone, Kalvec", Hector warns him and faces Monarc, "Recorded any movements yet?"

Monarc continues to click his mouse, click! Click! Click! Click!.

He wasn't glancing back at Hector, nor at Kalvec, who was glaring at him like a predator. "Hey, Sergeant asked something. Aren't you gonna reply?".

Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click! Click!

Kalvec couldn't handle his patience and began to approach Monarc with haste, but just as he was about to make his move, Hector pulled his arm to stop any further disturbance.

Kalvec is in deep confusion, couldn't let this slide, "But sir, he_".

"That's enough".

Two words, just two words, were enough for Kalvec's pride to shatter into pieces. But why was this enough? I guess it has something to do with his rivalry with Monarc, or maybe he's just a pretty dramatic boy (man) who wanted Hector's attention more than anything.

And with that, Monarc continued to stare at the screen like a perverted stalker who just got a glimpse of a girl's smile. (I'm kidding, it's not like that. The guy is just doing his job.)

"So you're telling me that they imprisoned you inside a mirror, how the hell is that possible?" Kace asked as he was struck with stupidity.

His fingers are vigorously tapping the keyboard as he hacks into the database and enters Zion's security card. (Zion is one of Ivan's assistants who was mentioned in chapter 1)

Orette, who was polishing her shoes with a scrap cloth, paused for a moment.

"I think it's a work of Professor Marida. She must have suggested my prison be more like_".

"Like you." Kace backfired.

" Shut up. You're hacking or what?".

"Almost done, but wait, why did they leave us at school? I mean that's dumb".

"Dumb and risky at the same time, but I have a hunch since I don't know if it's true or not".

Orette stopped and stretched her arms and legs to relieve them. "I think that there is more to this than we think. I have concluded three statements. One, that they knew we were not going to make a big deal out of it".

Kace, who stopped for a second, continued typing. "Please do explain what you mean".

"They knew that sooner or later, we were going to escape our structural cells. They knew we just needed time for the Syrium to fuse inside us, and after that, baam. We free ourselves and destroy them, but no, they didn't want this. They knew that there is no force to stop us, not even the military can get their hands on us."

"So in other words, they wanted to stabilise us. By what exactly?"

"Our pride in being monsters".

At that moment, Kace stopped and shot his 'what the hell are you saying' eyes. His pupil constricted, and a lilac hue shot straight glance towards Orette. She immediately stepped back and said, "Now don't look at me with those eyes, God, you're terrifying. But deep down you know it's true and you can't deny it".

Kace relaxes and massages his head, trying to be calm. "You know my biggest fear, it's our biggest fear. We don't want others to treat us differently, we just want to be normal".

"Can we really be? Is there a chapter where all of this just ends with a snap?".

"Believe me, buddy, you and I, we all wish for a world without us. Anyway". Orette clapped her hands to change the mode. "I think my second conclusion is that there are more people who are involved. Do you remember a guy named Jackson Smith?".

"The geeking hall monitor", Kace said as he started to type again. "You think he's in on this? Does he know about what's going on to us?".

"All I can say is that the child was expecting me".

"You both are literally the same age".

"I don't care, I'm calling him a child, so like I was saying, he was expecting me, and with much thought, I could guarantee you that my principal was also in on this, and if my thesis is correct, maybe the third generation is working separately from the HQ".

"But why, I thought they had the same plan to control us?".

"I was thinking the same thing, but I believe they have something worse stored for us".

"Yeah, I don't blame them, I mean, when we were ten, we were this close to arresting them," Kace says as he pinches his fingers to show this close they were.

"Yeah, but they are not arrested, okay, and they deserved it one way or another".

"Do you still believe they want us to be their successors? It's the last statement you concluded, right?".

Orette remained silent, her hands clutched in a fist, and her face showed no expression. "Being called 'The fourth generation' is the worst overrated title one could give".

Still no reaction, it was as Orette found herself still believing in hope. Should she let her pride carry her away with a plan, or should she just handle things on her own? No. No matter what, she knew it was not the time to act recklessly. One way or another, she was going to get normal, and there was no stopping her now.

"Let's just hope it's either the first or the second option, cause I'm in no mood to meet that pathetic man who calls himself a human".
