They followed the little boy in silence for nearly five minutes, winding through narrow paths between rundown buildings and makeshift tents. Garbage crunched under their boots, and every few seconds, someone coughed or stirred from the shadows. The deeper they went, the darker and more twisted the place felt.
Kelly glanced around, growing more tense with every step. "It feels like we're walking in a damn maze," she muttered under her breath, her voice low enough for only the girls to hear. "I swear we passed that same burned mattress three times."
Lilith kept walking, eyes scanning the corners, hands close to her sides. She didn't respond.
The little boy suddenly stopped and turned to them. He raised a finger to his lips. "Shhhh," he whispered, pointing ahead. "We're here."
The girls looked up immediately.
