Life As the Vampire God Chapter 18 - The Death of One
It's the same day and year, 31 October 666AD but it is now 1130 in the morning.
The group of us are flying towards Sermoff swiftly passing over the flatlands beyond the capital City of Easlum. Lucifer, Cain and Attila landed in sequence on the outer most city wall. I landed next to them.
"Stay here," I said, "Don't let him get past this wall. He can't teleport in here."
They nodded in agreement. I then turned and flew over the flatlands landing about 250-feet away from Sermoff remarking, "took you long enough."
Sermoff sneered, "oh come on Draven, you of all should know that one can never rush a plan set in perfection."
No words were needed. I made lightning flicker around me as my reply to his arrogance.
Sermoff shrugged. "Bold of you Draven to come to me," he sneered.
"You're invading my home," I growled. "And you say that I'm BOLD," my eyes flickered red.
He scoffed, "You won't make me retreat this time Draven," Sermoff retorted and added, "just give me your empire so I can save this world from what is to come, and I'll spare your precious wife."
Anger, as hot as molten lava flowing from an erupting volcano, flooded my thoughts. I bit out between clenched teeth with a resounding growl, "how dare you mention my wife!" In that instant a compact storm cloud appeared above my head, lightning blasted down and hit me. That strike literally charged me up. Simultaneously, I watched a portal opening next to Sermoff and with no theatrics to speak of someone, definitely not a female someone, stepped out wearing what looked like the skin of a lion. Furthermore, I knew this was definitely not an Easlum fashion show! I immediately launched lightning bolts at Sermoff, but the uninvited lion man stepped directly in front of Sermoff. The lightning hit him, crackled and flickered around him but sadly, there was no damage! I muttered under my breath, "that should have done something more."
Sermoff smiled. "Like I've said, you cannot ruin a perfect plan." He raised his arm gesturing toward the lion man and sneered at me saying, "I don't believe you've met Hercules." He lowered his arm. "In case you're uncertain about his outfit, he is wearing the skin of a Nemean Lion and I'm certain you already know that its skin is impenetrable."
Not wasting anymore time in the blink of an eye and implementing a less than brilliant battle strategy, I charged at Hercules. I watched as lion man stomped his sandaled foot into the ground which gave way as expected; however, the ground right in front of where he stepped unexpectedly shot into the air. I spun around; my automatic reflex was to shoot a blast of angelic energy mixed with lightning at the middle of a rock that "Hercules" had shot up. The blast hit dead center, splitting it apart. Hercules swiftly jumped into the open middle area of what had been a whole rock and was now close enough to punch me dead center in my face. His punch felt like a 200-story building had dropped on me from one mile high in the sky. Fortunately, my description of the pain wasn't my reality. I was more embarrassed than hurt. The force did send me flying backward and I slammed into the wall which was undamaged because of its superior construction, plus, I had enhanced it just in case. I glanced up at my dad. "Care to help here?"
Lucifer folded his arms across his chest sat down on the edge while suppressing a smirk, "nah, I like watching you. You're quite entertaining at times. Breaks the monotony of tedious centuries." I resisted rolling my eyes like a petulant child would when feeling as though their parent was reacting in a childish manner.
Without warning, Hercules punched the ground pulling up a huge chunk with one easy motion. He roared at me, "the pressure should destroy your Achilles heel." Like a spoiled brat, he then threw part of that chunk of ground at me. But before I could react, a ton of lightning bolts rained out of the sky and blasted the rock to pieces. He looked upward, "what the …"
My eyes followed his upward gaze. Floating above both of us was Elemental, the god of all of the nature elements.
Elemental waved both of his hands. Green plants grew out of the barren ground and formed together with chunks of rock. I watched as it all meshed together forming multiple rock monsters. But he wasn't finished, Elemental then sent lightning bolts in both directions which quickly formed into two small Storm Cloud Spirits. All of these creations glared at Hercules. Elemental blinked. It was his silent "go" command.
Hercules and the Storm Cloud Spirits charged at each other much like a bull charges a matador in a filled to capacity bull fighting ring on Earth. Hercules was using his strength turned to max capacity to destroy the spirits but to no avail, Elemental just kept making more. This fighting continued, while moving to the right. I looked over at Sermoff. I knew what I needed to do. I summoned Death Dealer and Luck.
Both appeared instantaneously with strong vibrant energies swirling around them. They made quite an entrance. They were floating on either side of me. Our magic combined would kill him. My hands glowed black with energy and crackling lightning. Both of my companions were still glowing, Death Dealer a shining black and Luck glowed a polished charcoal gray. I yelled, "fire!"
Luck, Death Dealer, and I released a triple combination, continuous energy laser blast at Sermoff. It was a beautiful sight. Our three blasts combined kept going and going. Sermoff's eyes widened as he studied the incoming blasts but with a hair left to hit the bull's eye target on dead center, a figure dropped from the sky right in front of Sermoff and somehow put-up a round shield! Really? It gets better! The figure was clad in Greek armor and appeared as calm as could be standing there while holding a rather ornate shield and hefty looking sword.
He announced, "I am Ares." Apparently, he was a man of few words because he immediately started advancing in my direction just as Lucifer landed next to me.
"Out of all the gods I controlled," my father began, "he was the most powerful." I stared at my dad hoping against hope I was getting the wrong message.
"You don't control him any longer?" I queried.
"With much regret, no, and unfortunately, I have no idea how he got his soul back." He didn't leave it there he had to add, "Just so you know, he is more powerful than his Roman counterpart, Mars."
This is just getting better and better I thought, then I asked, I could not help myself. "Like how much more powerful?"
"You'll see soon enough." Not the answer I wanted to hear.
As Ares advanced, I watched in disbelief as he instantly multiplied himself by ten. "What the ...," I muttered, stuttered. Ten Ares's were marching in unison, heading straight towards me.
Always the comedienne, dear old dad said, "here's where the fun begins. Watch what he can do!" Like what else would I be doing other than perhaps disappearing into a secret portal and sit this, whatever it was, out.
Each of Ares' forms took on a different power. One was Fire, one was Ice, one grew to three-times the original size, another levitated in the air while red energy swirled around him. Number five's body turned into metal and, the sixth one turned into an imposing robot dog. Seventh in line started flickering like a traditional ghost and lucky number eight, well, his eyes glowed and turned black as coal. Number nine couldn't be more outstanding in looks; this one glowed bright white and a heavily feathered pair of wings could be seen! Last but not least, number ten turned out to be a Storm Cloud form with on-going lightning.
Sermoff laughed, gave me a salute yelled, "good luck!" He turned, proceeded to open a portal and scrambled through. His portal closed immediately behind him.
All the Ares's charged and surrounded me. I could hear Lucifer's. "Try to get them to hit each other."
The triple-sized Ares launched forward hitting Lucifer so hard that he went airborne, somersaulting into the stone Dome wall which surrounds Easlum just like the Dome wall next to the V.I.P. train area. I heard their collective voices say in unison: "Finally, I've been waiting to hit Lucifer."
The Demon Ares with the coal black eyes launched up in the air and attacked Luck. Following close behind, the radiantly white Angel Ares launched behind his Demon buddy and attacked Death Dealer which surprised me since if I were coordinating this attack, I'd color code it. White for Luck, coal black for Death Dealer. The remaining Ares's turned and attacked me! I defended myself as fiercely as possible, but I just wasn't strong against the enhanced group. Ice Ares attacked by freezing my feet in place and the Huge Ares smashed me into the ground while my feet were still frozen in place. Ghost Ares was next, he flickered and attacked I managed to turn both of my bracelets two iron swords and sliced through him; he disappeared! My feet area had thawed just enough to allow me to get up and move closer to the wall.
A shadow passed overhead. I looked up dreading whatever was there. The sight was a relief. The ship was one of mine, Easlum's if one must be technical, nevertheless, my winged Vampires jumped out. My relief was short lived. I watched as the Robot Dog Ares's back open, and a very impressive missile launch system appeared. He then fired, one after the other at the vampire transport airships which exploded except for the most recently launched ship in the fleet. The newest design had been cladded with heavy protective armor. It shot back but Robot Ares managed to shoot it in its one vulnerable location, the open jump bay had yet to close. The remaining "created" Ares's who weren't currently engaged in some sort of combat turned and attacked me. I quickly turned my bracelet into a shield and sword. Unfortunately, I was hit by a rocket which threw me off balance. Ghost Ares appeared, tripped me and I fell unceremoniously on my face. I was pinned to the ground by the remaining Ares's. Big Ares swung his oversized sword, raised it over his head and plunged it with all of his might deep into "my Achilles heel" which was located in a very inaccessible spot, my upper back on my spine.
White cracks appeared at my weak spot and spread out in an intricate spiderweb pattern covering my entire body in a few precious seconds like I was shedding my skin. My Achilles's body armor shattered and exploded. The blast sent everyone back. Big Ares also known as x3 Ares chopped off my arm which had instantly regenerated the next moment. Magic Ares rested his open palms on either side of my head. I tried to shove him off, but I couldn't, I wasn't able to shove him off. Our eyes met the nanosecond he sent a massive blast into my head which traveled deep into my body, and I knew what was coming … I exploded. I died. Damn!
