Chapter 70 - A Lost Paige Part 5.1 (Jin)

5.

From the second Paige was in trouble to her being dragged into nothingness. Time meant nothing. Plans were to be made along the way. Following that, Jin dove into shimmering nothingness.

He'd expected a lot to happen before he got to the other side but nothing? No fancy vortex, bright lights, moment of tranquillity. He was just… somewhere else.

He was just a dope, staring at a wall.

Then.

Heat and humidity slammed like a rockslide, forcing him to adjust.

He was in a long winding stairway, the likes of which he'd never seen. The wall was medieval, nothing one would see in a construction site. It was 'out of this world'

What the hell was going on, where were they? It'd been a few seconds at most. They were blowing through space, time too?

There wasn't a door in sight, only foreign walls. The only light came from small globes the shape of medieval torches.

A scream, added to the feel.

Roaring fury awoke, its cage unlocked, still it ripped the hinges open. Determined to make freedom its new normal. It fuelled a headlong sprint down the winding stairway into a large, bearded man, no giant but big.

Jin's knee rammed into his chin bowling him over and knocking him out. He quickly fished out a dagger from the body.

A dagger?! What?

It was curved and short, a lot like something medieval. All it needed were jewels and ancient ruins.

He pocketed it and continued at a steady jog.

The stairs ended at the mouth of an open courtyard.

The world stopped making sense. Courtyards were small, whatever he was standing in was huge. A baseball tournament could have been held there. But there was no sun, or stars, he was still underground. The only light came from wall lamps, which started at each end of the doorway and disappeared into the distance. They should not have filled the room but they did, space, time and physics were cheating. He was still on the other side… just elsewhere?

He continued his run until something caught his eye. In the middle was the giant, still dragging Paige like a sack. The beast roared, something beyond the cage came loose, not free so much as dislocating. It wasn't a cage. It was gravity. Millions of tons of atmosphere sitting on his shoulder suddenly fucking off… because he'd said so. Restlessness and urgency filled him so completely it bled out his eyes as tears.
