She blinked, seeing herself exploding, killing Cole Kingsley.
"[Ya knew where I lived Vanessa. Ya knew I spoke Japanese. Fuck Vanessa yous 'ad time to learn Japanese even with ya bloodline and access that wouldn't be quick. This is important Vanessa. Does your father know? He wouldn't have sent'cha… but… I can't risk it. We thought being with Kaz would make him keep his distance… Vanessa… does he know I'm here? Is he making a move?]"
Vanessa struggled, Paige's hands red, cooking flesh clogged her nostrils. Vanessa shook her head, eyes wide.
"Yous lying."
Vanessa shook her head, eyes more desperate than ever. Paige stared, nodded and let go.
"[Dun worry I won't kill ya. I already killed ya charge. It wouldn't help."
She checked her fingers.
Better.
She sighed returning to her spot next to Vanessa.
"[But… I've found that ya can take the rider as a charge in a moment like this. Don't ask how, let's just say it cost a lot to find out and near impossible to achieve, when the opponent is in full health. Like a Pokémon…]" Paige guffawed at her own cleverness. "[And well… look at'cha … Anyway...WELCOME TO THE TEAM!]" Paige shouted.
Vanessa jumped.
Paige put her hand over Vanessa's face.
Vanessa screamed, eyes rolling into the back of her head. Crystal white fur grew out of her skin. She struggled against the grip. White light burst from every ounce of her, licking and feeding as though she were on fire. Her looks contorted, she grew, hair covered her entire form, clothing tore as she changed into a hairy monstrosity. The beast was a stunning blonde that made Aramas' white look old and muddy.
Paige jumped, laughing in anticipation as it roared in her face.
The blonde creature burst into flame, a glorious inferno that bubbled up like a nuclear explosion only to be sucked in and rose, forming a firestorm that turned sand to glass. Up its arms went, massive fists balling in the sky and the flame focused.
Down the arms went. Paige the target.
Crash!
Paige was on its back, pulling out its mist strings, the rage and flame dissipated, leaving her in control.
She hopped off and swaggered away.
Paige was in her own music video, strutting to her set of beasts holding the snake down and taking it. With a wave all but Aramas sunk into her, disappearing in a fiery burst of light. Behind her, there was a crash, a building crumbling in on itself. Ash and debris smashed against her shield.
Her head shook in mock pity and sadness. No matter how shitty her piece of the real world was, it'd always be better than the in-between.
There was a cough, a clearing of the throat to remove dust.
She froze. The hairs at the back of her neck at attention. After the second attacker, she'd checked, been careful to stay aware.
There were no other scents, she'd have found them.
The cough had come from behind and close.
Paige turned sharply only to have a hand, so massive she didn't know if it was human, clamp over her face and squeeze. Almost instantly she buckled. She screamed, five fingers digging deep. He didn't move a millimetre upon her push. The man was amazing. She'd never faced anyone so powerful that they couldn't be hurt, no one could pass her shield so quick. She tried to absorb it, but got nothing.
Her shield, her attacks weren't working because she didn't have them.
She'd been demoted to a petite seventeen-year-old by a giant using pure brute strength.
