The wheel had barely started spinning again before Echo's box finished rising back into its ring.
Do-yun was still grinning, both hands pressed against the glass. "Did you see his face when the rock blew up? The earth guy's face? He looked so betrayed."
"He looked like someone stole his lunch," Areum said, laughing a little for the first time since they'd arrived.
Jin smiled, but his eyes went back to the screen. The names blurred past, white on black, slowing little by little. After watching Echo win so cleanly, it was easy to forget that the next name up there could belong to anybody, including one of them.
The wheel clicked to a stop.

Jin's smile slipped.
He stared at the name so long that Areum noticed. She followed his gaze up to the screen, then looked back at his face. "Jin?"
"I know that name," he said quietly.
The second wheel spun and settled beneath it.

"Another friend from the school?" Do-yun asked.
