The relief lasted exactly as long as it took the ground to start shaking again.
Not the tremor from before. Something deeper. Something that rolled up through the soles of Jin's boots and kept building instead of fading, the whole street trembling like the city itself had taken a breath and couldn't let it back out. Somewhere nearby, a car alarm that had been silent for hours suddenly wailed back to life, triggered by the shaking alone.
"Tell me that's aftershock," Joon said.
Nobody answered, because the creature's headless body had already begun to move.
