Seul frowned down at him.
"Ask me what?"
Jin sat up properly, leaning his back against the leg of the desk. Coffee was dripping off the hem of his shirt. He ignored it.
"Your family name," he said. "It's Kang, right? Kang Seul?"
Her frown got deeper. "It's on my badge. So yes."
"Do you have a brother? Chul? Kang Chul?"
Seul went completely still.
For a second she just stared at him, and Jin watched three different expressions go across her face one after the other. Surprise, then suspicion, then something close to worry.
"How do you know Chul?" she asked slowly.
"We're friends," Jin said. It wasn't a lie. Not really. Not where he came from.
"Chul has friends?"
She said it so flatly, so honestly, that Jin almost laughed out loud. It was such a Seul thing to say. He'd heard her talk about her brother like that more times than he could count.
"A few," he said. "He's not as bad as you think."
