An hour and a half, that's how long it took for him to recreate the camera shutter system his mask' lenses had and put it in regular goggles that still retained the lens design.
Peter carefully pressed a button and smiled as the lenses lit up in a green hue, then turned a light blue.
They look awesome!
"Hey, guys! The goggles are done! Come check 'em out!" He called, grabbing the equipment and carefully placing it over his head.
The world seemed a bit more… toned down, if anything. One of the main reasons for the lenses being like camera shutters was so Peter could register input at a manageable rate, so he could focus and not be overwhelmed.
And since now he didn't have to show a bunch of circuitry into a cloth mask, he had a lot more room to work with!
Night vision, and even infrared! He wanted to try and put a HUD into it, but it just seemed a bit over the top, and he was pretty sure it couldn't fit in.
"Wow! Peter! They look g-great! They'll go well with the mask, can you lift the lenses up?" Izuku asked, he was the only one who actually walked over since Mei was busy welding something.
Wait, why would she need to weld something? Wasn't she working on materials?
Eh, whatever.
Peter swiftly lifted the goggles up, his brown eyes shining with excitement. "Yeah! I was looking up some inspiration for this stuff and found how some night vision goggles allow being lifted up so you could look at stuff through your eyes, if you needed to look down a scope or something."
One of the main inspirations Peter and Izuku had when designing this suit was S.W.A.T equipment so Peter could have a more tactical suit to work with.
"Cool! Hey, can I ask you something about your q-quirk?"
"Uh, sure? What's up?"
"You said you could only stick to surfaces through semi-thin materials like cloth, right? And how it only works through your hands and feet?"
"Yeah, why do you ask?"
"Well… How do you actually stick to things?"
Peter was about to answer before he stopped, his eyes going wide in realization.
He didn't actually know how he stuck to things.
Holy shit, he didn't know how his quirk worked!
At the start, he thought it had something to do with tiny hairs like some spiders had, but he found out that wasn't it after putting his fingers under a microscope.
So then, Peter assumed it had something to do with molecules and stopped worrying about, since he has more important stuff to do.
Like being a vigilante and all.
"Y-You don't actually know, do you?" Izuku asked with a flat look on his face, Peter only gave a sheepish laugh.
"I… don't know, actually. I figured out it's not like I have tiny hairs on my hands, so I always assumed it had something to do with molecules and moved on, you know?"
Izuku only looked at him for a second before leaving to retrieve his phone and coming back.
"Well, I was sketching a revised version of the boots but I need to know how you stick to things. If it has to do with molecules, does that mean you stick to things by affecting the molecular attraction between you and a surface?"
Peter's eyes went wide, it made so much sense!
"I stick to things through electrostatic electricity that affects molecules! Of course!" He laughed, it was so simple!
Izuku smiled too as he wrote the new information down on his notebook app. "Alright, I'll h-have to make the soles of the boots si-similar to ballerina slippers, so they're both stealthy and thin enough, great!"
As Izuku gave a quick thanks for the new information, he started to walk away before he stopped as his eyes went wide.
"Wait, if you climb things through e-electrostatic… could you focus it more to attack with it?"
Peter paused as he thought about it, he had just found out how he stuck to things but now he had to see if he could attack with it?
Maybe if he somehow placed all of it into a single point, there'd be enough of it to do damage.
Right?
Peter closed his eyes as he took a deep breath. If it worked like how he thought it did, he'd have to try to stick without actually sticking to something, right? That way, all the electrostatic would focus onto one point on a large enough amount to do something with it.
Stick… without sticking…
He felt a small zap go through his body and into his right hand as he held it out, he felt electricity dancing between his fingers and a small bit of exhaustion hit him.
A connection.
Like a circuit inside his body, leading energy to one single point.
A small buzzing and zapping sounded across the room, Peter opened his eyes and froze
In the hand he was holding out, small bits of yellow electricity danced around his hand, jumping to and from the gaps in his finger.
"Holy shit… uh, Izuku! What do I do?! How do it turn it off?!" Peter started freaking out as he felt the tingling of the energy, he waved his hand around in a panic.
"I-I-I don't know! Try l-letting g-go of it?"
"How?! There's literally electricity in my hand! It feels super weird, dude!"
"Your electrostatic must be some sort of bioelectricity you've only been using a small amount! Your body must be some sort of circuit that allowed you to send it to a single point!"
"I know that ! Stop nerding out and help!"
Izuku quickly started to freak out, too. The boy beginning to step away from Peter's sparking hand.
Peter watched as the energy danced around his skin, as if his body couldn't hold it inside anymore.
This felt so fucking weird! What kind of spider is electric?!
Out of seemingly nowhere, Mei came down to the basement while eating a chocolate bar.
"Woah! Your hand's all zappy! Since when can you do that?" Mei threw the bar onto a nearby as her eyes zoomed into his hand.
"Just now! Help me stop it!" Peter tried to touch it but quickly recoiled his hand after a spark zapped him.
Mei only nodded and went upstairs, a couple seconds later, she came back down with a dummy that had a lot of scorch marks.
"Maybe if you hit something, the energy with be transferred! Hit this dummy!" The girl simply placed the dummy down and dragged Izuku and herself to hide behind the bullet-proof glass box.
Hit the dummy? He should try it out!
Peter wound his fist back, holding back on the super strength, and punched the dummy straight in the chest.
A small explosion of electricity burst from his fist, sending both him and the object flying across the room.
Good news, the electricity was gone!
Bad news, his entire sleeve was missing.
What the hell kind of spider bit him?
"Oh my God! This means that you have control over the electricity in your body! That's incredible! Wait, can you zap me?" Izuku helped him off the ground, Peter could still feel the tingling in his arm.
"What? No! I'm not gonna zap you!"
What, was he just electric now? Is that it? What kind of spider is electric? This was so weird!
The trio of teens simultaneously looked toward the dummy only to see it still in one piece and sparking with excess electricity; Peter could only breathe a sigh of relief.
That meant he didn't make people explode, which was good! He didn't need to electrocute people to death.
Mei walked forward and inspected the damage; she quickly let out a laugh.
"Welp! This sure does set us back a bit, but that doesn't matter! We gotta start the costume from the ground up so that it survives that new electric stuff you got going on!"
The girl simply pulled down her goggles, went to her workbench, threw everything on the ground, and pulled a new piece of material to work on.
And just… started working.
Peter looked to his left only to see Izuku already devolve into a muttering spree as he redid all his work and notes.
He just had to be electric, didn't he?
Wait, what was he gonna call attacks with it?
Hmm, it kind of stung someone, right? Like how a spider bit someone, and it stung them?
What about… venom?
