"I've never been more." Edvin said with a straight face.
"But… you want me to waste a full recon mission on—"
"Waste?" Edvin interrupted, voice low and clipped. "I want everything. She may not care for gold, but there's more than one way to win a heart. I just need to learn how."
A beat of silence passed between them, heavy with unspoken thoughts. Garron looked as if he might laugh, but the habit of discipline won out.
"So this is the one," he said finally. "The girl who made the great Edvin Thorne stumble."
Edvin gave a half-smile. "She didn't make me stumble, Garron. She made me look twice."
The spy narrowed his eyes, studying Edvin for a long moment. "You think you can win her. From how you describe her, she seems like a tough but to crack."
"I don't think, Garron," Edvin said calmly. "I know."
