Are you okay' he asked me.
Yes! I replied as I wiped my tears. He took his hand out introducing himself and I did same.
Can I ask you something' I said to him. Of course you can.
How did you become friends with that monster? I asked and he chuckled.
Dominic and I have been friends since we were kids' he said. Wow, so ur the monster' best friend' I said.
I'm sorry that you had to end up with Dominic like this' he said giving me a pity face. Thanks Julian'.
Well, I have to leave now' he said and left.
I walked towards the kitchen and saw Mr Harrow. Where is Clara? I asked him, I'm sorry miss Hayes but I can't give you any information on that.
Why do I always drag people into my messed up life' I muttered and tears rolled down my eyes.
Few Hours Later – Voss Family Estate
Dominic's sleek car pulled into the circular driveway of his childhood home a place that hadn't changed in years.
As he stepped out, Elias, his younger brother, was already leaning against the porch rail, playing with a coin between his fingers.
"Thought you'd be late," Elias said with a cocky grin.
"I was almost hoping to be," Dominic replied, walking past him.
Inside, Jane, his younger sister, practically tackled him with a hug. "Don't be so stiff," she muttered into his jacket. "It's not like we're strangers." Dominic didn't return the embrace not with his arms but his silence softened.
"You smell like power and guilt," she teased, pulling away.
"Both earned," he said dryly.
At the end of the long hallway, in a plush velvet chair, sat Grandfather Voss, sipping aged brandy and reading a newspaper.
He finally decided to come home the old man grunted.
"Depends on the day," Dominic said, brushing a hand over the man's shoulder — the closest he'd ever come to affection in public.
Then, his mother appeared from the kitchen, apron dusted with flour, smile radiant.
"Dominic."
He kissed her cheek.
And for one moment, the mask slipped.
His jaw relaxed. His voice lowered. "Hey, Ma, he gave her a hug. Why are you making dinner, where are the maids.
Come on son, I decided to make dinner personally for you, she said as she rubbed his cheek.
You made it for me too, Elias said as he hugged her and she chuckled.
