"Ugh, what did I do to deserve this?" In the classroom, Shido Itsuka lay lifelessly sprawled over his desk. Today his worldview had been reshaped once again, because it was the first time he had ever seen someone use their foot to brake a car. Although it had been quite effective, when he glanced at the shattered pavement, the totaled car, and the strange looks from all the students around them, he felt like dying.
"Wow, I heard you came here today with a beautiful girl—so how was it? What was it like?" At that moment, his best friend ran over, threw an arm around his neck, and started talking excitedly.
"Uh, beautiful girl?" Hearing this, Shido subconsciously thought of all the things Tohka had done these past few days. He immediately broke into a cold sweat, because honestly, he hadn't really noticed how pretty she was—he could only vividly remember her actions. That wasn't some beautiful girl—it was more like a humanoid tyrannosaurus. Have you ever seen a beautiful girl casually destroy a city and then brake a car using her foot? This guy must have only seen the beauty and ignored the disaster zone outside the classroom.
"So, where's that beautiful girl you were with? What's her name? Where is she from—" But his best friend hadn't thought about any of that and just kept asking excitedly with his arm still draped over Shido's shoulders.
"She's a transfer student named Tohka Yatogami. She just moved into the apartment upstairs from me. She's gone to the office to report in. If you want to know more, go ask her yourself." Glancing at his friend, Shido sighed in despair, then lay back down on the desk. He really felt exhausted inside—just what was all this, anyway?
"Hey, hey, don't look like your whole family died. You were with a beautiful girl—that's the kind of thing most people would envy. What's there to complain about?" Helplessly watching Shido flop on the desk, his friend couldn't understand why he was reacting like this.
"Everyone, today we have a new student joining us. Please come up and introduce yourself!" Just then, their homeroom teacher suddenly opened the classroom door and called out excitedly. Hearing this, Shido and his friend both looked up at their teacher. They didn't understand why their slightly airheaded teacher seemed so enthusiastic today. But the moment Shido heard "new student," and remembered what his sister had told him, he got a bad feeling in his gut.
"Hello, everyone, my name is Tohka Yatogami. Please take care of me." Hearing the teacher, Tohka walked in boldly and introduced herself. But what happened next was a bit beyond her expectations.
"Wow, look! She's so pretty—seriously beautiful..."
"Look at that perfect zettai ryouiki..."
"Hey beauty, what's your phone number..."
All right—only now did Tohka realize just how popular she was. Back when she went to school in New York, she'd never encountered this kind of situation. After all, people's beauty standards were different in different places—she might not have been considered top-tier in America, but here it was clearly another story. She wasn't like Miku, but still, she was so startled by everyone's enthusiasm that she nearly jumped.
Of course, not everyone was acting that way—like Origami Tobiichi. At that moment, she suddenly slammed her desk and stood up, glaring at Tohka with eyes full of murderous intent. Naturally, Tohka wasn't intimidated in the least. She stared right back across the classroom, and the two of them locked eyes in a silent standoff. The oppressive aura radiating from them crushed the lively atmosphere into silence. Everyone started glancing back and forth between them, completely confused by what was happening. But there was nothing to be done—neither of them were ordinary people, and neither was the pressure they exuded. So, everyone's attention was inevitably drawn to them.
"Those two...don't tell me they have that kind of relationship?" Someone whispered under their breath, and instantly many of the students' expressions changed. The previously tense atmosphere in the classroom turned strange.
"My god—who has an imagination like that?" Unlike the others, Shido had already covered his face with his hand. These guys were too good at making up stories. The first time those two met, they'd literally tried to kill each other—how could it possibly be that kind of situation? Just thinking about it gave him chills—he still remembered watching the video. Even though he'd been unconscious at the time, Origami had fired a sniper rifle powerful enough to obliterate Tohka on the spot. And Tohka's counterattack in the end had nearly flattened the whole mountaintop. Origami had been injured too—wasn't she still wrapped in bandages even now? He was sure that if those two were left alone in some remote place, they'd start fighting within seconds. Even if Tohka's power had been sealed, he didn't believe she was truly defenseless. I mean, who ever heard of an ordinary girl braking a car with her foot?
"Hmph." Tohka heard that whisper too, and as she felt all the eyes on her, her face flushed red and she quickly looked away. As for Origami, she didn't react at all.
"All right, Miss Tohka, I'm very sorry. Since everything has already been arranged, you'll be sitting over there." Sensing the weird mood in the room, the teacher clapped her hands to draw everyone's attention, then pointed to the seat by the window near the back door, right next to Origami.
"So, Tamaki-sensei—are you sure you haven't made some mistake here?" Staring blankly as Tohka sat down beside Origami, Shido felt like his head was about to explode. He was certain his peaceful school life was about to be over for good. Sure enough, the moment Tohka sat down, she and Origami locked eyes again, and the air around them turned oppressive. Now, nobody dared walk through the space between them.
"Hmph." Tohka's eyes started to ache from the staring, and she finally lost interest in Origami. After all, this was a classroom—Origami wasn't going to pick a fight right now. So Tohka just clamped her pen between her teeth and started spacing out, waiting for class to begin. The high school material she'd learned before wasn't hard for her—this Japanese high school curriculum was nothing at all.
And so, in that suffocating atmosphere, an entire day passed. Because the two of them kept glaring at each other, no one dared to come up and speak to Tohka from start to finish.
