Chapter 2 - The Ex-hero Reborn

The hero was back in the world of humans once again, but it's the apocalypse era now. He was still asleep, not knowing it's the Hero's Academy test today. Deep in his mind he is:

I was born into the world of Apocalypse five hundreds of years after my first life as a hero, but my memories are still intact; I still know everything. That voice told me to pretend not to know anything of my past for my safety. She also explained to me everything about the hero and this present world, why everything is a mess, but I can also keep it secret from now. I still remember Andrea and my friend Anthony, who turned into monsters, and how I killed them. I don't feel any more remorse or hatred for myself. I'm so numb to feeling anything now. There is no more heartache, no more pain, so I have no reason to forget them anymore. I don't want to forget what I really am in my early life, so I don't want to forget those memories, including my journey to heaven and hell.

"I won't step into this mirror and choose to live again if you erase any of my memories. I swear it, and I mean it."

I clearly mean it to her, so it takes a long time for me to be reborn. Later, Sandara gave up because she was afraid that the time would be too late for me to be reborn since the apocalypse has already started. The gods and demons have started the war again. Earth in this era has monsters everywhere since many animals have evolved. Scientists believe that it was caused by an unknown parasite that comes from the cosmos and makes both humans and animals infected. In fact, they also believe that heroes are not different but are just infected as well, so they got super strength and abilities beyond what humans can imagine. They don't believe that the gods bless those heroes.

"Geosoft, wake up, pig; it's time to take a bath," Ruperth said while having fun pouring a glass of cold water on Geo's face.

Geo then opened his eyes and directly smacked Ruperth, but it did not hurt him since he is soft, hence the name Geosoft. Actually, his name is Geohard. Ruperth punches him back on his chest, and he stumbles over his bed, and it collapses and breaks.

"Trying to break this hard body of mine. You are full of yourself, soft one. I just woke you up because my father wants you to accompany me to the Hero Academy," Ruperth exclaimed in a hard tone.

Later that day, three of them, one of whom was Dynna, their cousin, traveled to Heroes Academy to take the Hero Entrance Test.

Geo was still puzzled why his strengths are all gone. In his late life, he was the only S hero, being the strongest in the world. Then he remembered something. "Since you did not want to lose your memory and your time is running out, I won't take it from you, but in return I will take something very important to you. I hope you will not regret this." The very words of Sandara that she told him in the gate of the Mirror of Life and Death. "So that is why it is. Now I understand. I almost forgot about it, but now I remember." Geo was muttering to himself.

"Remember what? Did you forget something at home?" Dynna got curious as she overheard Geo, who was sitting next to her in the flying roto-taxi.

"N-nothing!" answered Geo.

"Never mind that soft one," Ruperth smirked as he said this.

"You're harsh to your brother Ruperth; as an elder brother, you have to take care of him well," Dynna replied.

"Oh, really? He should be even thanking me and my family for racing him. That alone is enough." Ruppert becomes irritated as he feels envious since Dynna is backing up Geo.

"What do you mean by that?" asks Geo, who got curious due to what Ruperth had said.

"If you really want to know, fine," Ruperth answered. This makes Geo more curious.

"Shut up already!" Dynna shouted, staring back at Ruperth; her eyes were shining red.

"Ok, ok, I'll be silent," Ruperth said, not daring to fight back. He was so afraid. Geo wonders what kind of ability Dynna possessed that made Ruperth feel afraid.

"Can you try that using it against me?" Geo begged Dynna to use that power against him as well.

"But I'm afraid I'll hurt you," Dynna explained.

"I can handle it, trust me." Geo was still begging, though he didn't know if he really could handle that kind of power. Ruperth was still shaking in the backseat, while the driver was in a separate compartment in front of the flying transportation.

"Are you ready?" asked Dynna, and Geo answered by just nodding his head. Then Dynna's pupil grew bright red, and it touched Geo's soul.

"Woah, what a pure soul!" Dynna exclaimed in excitement. Later, as she observed that Geo was doing well and did not react to this kind of power, she preferred to enter deeper into Geo's consciousness.

"W-what is this?" She was puzzled to see the emptiness in Geo's consciousness.

"What kind of demon is this?" she muttered. She then was struck by the void, and she felt empty. The moment Geo opened his eyes, he saw Dynna unconscious, and his eyes are all white; it looks like his eyeballs roll out.

"Hey, you're unfair! I did not even know your ability yet, and now you're asleep," scolded Geo. He thought Dynna never tried to use her power on him. Just then Ruperth regained his composure.

"What the hell happened? What did you do to Dynna?"

'I did nothing. She is just fine, you see. She is just sleeping," Geo answered calmly, like nothing ever happened. Ruperth stands up and goes in to the front of Dynna.

"Sleep my ass! How can someone sleep with their eyes open? And they are all white?" Ruperth said.

"I don't know, maybe she sleeps that way," Geo answered.

"You clearly poisoned her!" Ruperth said angrily and held Geo's collar with his two hands.

"I swear I never did anything!" Geo said.

"Fine, but if I know you have done something horrible against my cousin, I won't let go of you."

After saying this, Ruperth let go of Geo's collar. Then he keeps knocking on the window of the driver's compartment.

"Hey brat, don't do anything stupid out there," replied the driver.

"Am I stupid to you? Do you know who my father is?"

Ruperth asks. "Your father is not worth my attention, but it's different if it's your mother. Don't be silly, kid," advised the driver. He is using the mic to communicate, but everyone in the passenger compartment heard it through the loudspeakers. "How dare you?" Ruperth got agitated as the driver had hinted that he knew of his family.

"Y-you, who are you?" The old man smiled lightly. Then he mutters, "When the old man talks, small children should lay low."

"Very well, since you know of my background, you should help us. Now I want you to bring us to the nearest hospital because my cousin is poisoned," explained Ruperth.

"I saw everything; there are four cameras installed in the passenger compartment. I also heard everything," answered the driver.

"Is it against our privacy.? Geo asks.

"It is for your security," the driver told them.

"If you know everything, what happened to my cousin?" asks Ruperth.

"Well, she is not poisoned; you should know very well what she did to you, but this kind of ability does not work on people with strong souls, people with strong mentalities, and people with strong wills. It works on you because you are lacking those three things. You are only physically strong. It does not work on Geo because he must have one of these abilities. And as a drawback, she lost her consciousness instead. She is still young, so she can recover quickly," explained the driver.

Ruperth looked at Geo, who was behind him; he never thought he would have some kind of ability like that. He remembered what happened to him earlier as well; the moment he met Dynna's gaze, he went into another place in an instant, and he lost all his powers. Heroes are defeated and being murdered by monsters right before his very eyes, and he can do nothing. His family was trampled by beasts, and the world was totally destroyed.

"So, Geo, tell me, what did you exactly do to Dynna?" asked Ruperth.

"Well, I did nothing," he answered.

"But what happened? I can't believe you don't do anything, so you tell me." Ruperth does not accept any reason at all. For him, it was Geo's mistake.

"Don't force him, kid; he has the ability to eliminate you without doing anything, advised the driver.

"I don't believe in your nonsense, old fart!" yelled Ruperth, then he grabbed Geo by the neck, pulled him from his seat, and pushed him down on the floor of the flying roto-taxi.

"Hey kid, don't do unnecessary things and let go of Geo now, or you will regret it," demanded the driver.

"Old fart, you are getting on my nerves," said Ruperth as a warning to the driver not to interfere anymore. The driver just stays quiet. Then, Geo's eyes turned black; everything about him was black, and he managed to catch that punch from Ruperth. Ruperth still can't believe himself how this soft Geo was able to catch his punch of steel and nullify its power, and then he turned into a daze. Everything around him has changed, and he found himself falling into a dark, lonely, and empty world. "Where am I?" he shouted. To his surprise, he can't even hear what he was saying, and he continues to fall.

"Hey, wake up!" Geo was shaking the body of Ruperth, but to no avail. It remains unconscious.

"I warned him already, but he won't listen," the driver said. Now both he and Dynna are unconscious with eyes rolled out.

"What happened to them?" Geo asks the driver.

"It means you don't know what happened?" The driver answered with another question.

"I really do not know," Geo honestly tells the driver.

"It means you cannot control your ability, and it's dangerous. I suggest you learn to control it in a very short time; otherwise, you will hurt innocent people when it goes berserk and out of control," explained the driver.

"But sir, what is my ability?" asked Geo.

"It's not too late for you to know since you are going to the Hero Academy. It means you will have plenty of time to know your ability and develop its potential. You are also too kind to call me sir."

"I have another question, sir."

"Go ahead," replied the driver.

"Sir, will my brother and cousin be alright?"

"Of course they are; their consciousness was just trapped by your power if my guess is right," answered the driver.

They become quiet, but later on the sky has changed. There were dark clouds that were formed ahead, and a series of lightning and thunder occurred. The dark cloud also gives out a black mist on its way. "Hang on there, kid! We got a problem on our way!" The old man said as he drove faster. "Why? What is going on there? Geo asks as he saw the mist and the dark clouds. And something like a winged beast appeared from the clouds, chasing after them.

"What are those?" Geo asks in bewilderment.

"They are not flying beasts or monsters. They are more like demons," answered the driver.

"So these are demons, but what are they on the surface?" Geo muttered to himself. He peeped at the window from time to time as they were being chased by those creatures.

"Damn you demons!" The driver yelled and set the flying roto-taxi to auto-flight, then he got out of the vehicle to fight against those demons. It turned out the driver was an S-class hero called the Sky Sulfer.
