EARTH - THEMYSCIRA

The air changed the moment they arrived.

Themyscira rose from the sea like a dreamland, white stone terraces layered along emerald hills, columns carved with ancient victories and amazonian warriors, waterfalls threading through gardens of olive trees. Sunlight washed everything in gold, and the sea beyond the cliffs stretched calm and endless.

Arthur and Didi walked side by side along a marble path worn smooth by centuries of bare feet and armored strides.

Here, the image of Olympus was gone.

Didi inhaled slowly, eyes drifting over the city. "A sanctuary," she murmured. "Built to endure long after gods forget themselves."

Her gaze slid toward Arthur. "You're here to check on someone, aren't you? Diana."

Arthur nodded once. "She's here. I'll give her the news, then I'll leave."

Didi smiled faintly. "So you do care about your colleagues after all."

"I'm not part of their team," Arthur replied calmly. "You know that." He paused, then added, "But some of them are righteous. Sometimes to the point of naivety. Still… they deserve respect. Otherwise, I wouldn't have helped."

Didi said nothing. She simply looked at him, her smile warm, knowing like someone who already understood the answer long before the question was asked.

The moment didn't last.

Steel-tipped arrows snapped into place.

Amazonian guards emerged from behind columns and hedges, bows drawn, expressions sharp and unyielding.

"Halt," one of them commanded. "Who are you?"

Arthur didn't answer.

He looked at them, just a glance.

The air rippled.

The guards collapsed where they stood, bows clattering harmlessly against marble, breaths steady as sleep claimed them.

Didi blinked, then laughed softly. "You know," she said, "you could have introduced yourself."

Arthur continued walking. "It wouldn't have mattered. To Amazons, outsiders are either allies or enemies and that distinction isn't made with words."

They moved on, leaving a trail of sleeping warriors behind them like fallen leaves.

By the time they reached the palace, the effect was impossible to ignore.

Diana was already there, standing beside her mother. She took one look at the unconscious guards lining the path and shook her head, smiling.

When her eyes met Arthur's, that smile softened into something genuine.

"You really have a way of announcing yourself," she said.

The Queen of the Amazons studied him carefully. "So," she said at last, voice steady, "this is him?"

"Yes," Diana answered. "This is Arthur."

Arthur inclined his head in a respectful bow. "Apologies for the intrusion. Your warriors are unharmed.. merely asleep."

Diana laughed, incredulous. "How can you be like this?"

Arthur raised an eyebrow. "Like what?"

"You save us," she said, gesturing vaguely toward the world beyond the island, "and then you apologize the moment you set foot here, for this?"

"Don't think of it as a favor," Arthur replied. "It's what I do for friends." His gaze darkened slightly. "Besides… I didn't save everyone."

The courtyard grew quiet.

"Zeus is dead," Arthur said. "And many others with him."

Diana nodded slowly. "I know. The pantheon is broken.. damaged beyond repair. Only a few remain. Ares. Athena. Poseidon. Aphrodite and Hades who doesn't even consider himself an Olympian anymore." She hesitated. "Poseidon may not survive."

She exhaled. "I hate to say it, but Father brought this upon himself. Obsession with fate and prophecy turned Olympus into a slave of inevitability. Centuries of ruin followed."

Arthur nodded. "Ares surprised me," he said. "He fought for all of you, even if he'd never admit it." A pause. "He also said something interesting."

Diana tilted her head. "Did he?"

"He thinks you should rule Olympus."

She laughed immediately. "Absolutely not."

Her mother did not.

"That has always been your destiny," the Queen said quietly. "You were born different."

Diana's expression turned serious. "I don't want it. I belong here. With my people. With my friends in the League." She looked toward the horizon. "I hate to say this but the age of gods is ending. We should be preparing for what comes next, not clinging to empty thrones."

Arthur smiled.

So did Didi.

"You are wise, Diana of Themyscira," Didi said at last, her voice gentle and vast all at once. "Wisdom like yours survives long after divinity fades."

Arthur nodded. "You saved your people. That's what matters."

He stepped back. "I'll be taking my leave now."

Diana inclined her head. Her mother followed suit deep, formal and respectful.

As Arthur turned away, Didi fell into step beside him, fingers brushing his sleeve as they walked back toward the light and the sea.

GOTHAM -

Gotham greeted them the way it always did, with rain-soaked streets, flickering neon bleeding through fog, and the sound of a city that never truly slept.

Arthur stood at the edge of a rooftop overlooking Crime Alley, his coat fluttering gently despite the still air. Below, sirens wailed somewhere distant, swallowed quickly by concrete and shadow. Gotham felt small tonight.

Didi stood beside him, hands clasped behind her back, boots resting on the edge.

She spoke without looking at him.

"I have a proposition for you, Arthur."

He exhaled slowly, amused more than surprised. "I figured. You've been circling it since Olympus." He glanced sideways at her. "Go on. This is what you were keeping from me anyway. I know you want to say something important."

Didi turned then, smiling not the playful one she'd worn before, but something softer. Thoughtful and careful.

"I won't say it now," she said gently. "But I need you to agree to it regardless."

Arthur raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. "That's… suspicious and odd coming from you."

She laughed quietly, the sound oddly comforting for someone who embodied endings. "It's because if you can do this," she said, voice lowering, "then I'll understand something very important."

He waited.

"And very terrifying," she added.

Arthur blinked. "Terrifying to you?"

That made her pause. For just a heartbeat, Death of the Endless looked… uncertain.

"Yes," Didi said. "If you can do this, then you'll be my equal." Her eyes met his, black reflecting violet. "If not… perhaps something even greater."

For the first time in a while, Arthur didn't immediately have an answer. He frowned slightly, then sighed, uncrossing his arms.

"So," he said, tone lighter than the weight of her words deserved, "what am I supposed to do?"

Didi shook her head. "Not yet. I need time. You'll understand why I can't say it here, and why I can't rush it. I've never done this before."

"Never?" Arthur echoed.

"There was no reason to, I never met a being with your set of... qualities." she replied softly. "Until now."

Rain pattered against the rooftop between them.

Arthur studied her for a moment, then nodded once. "Alright. I get it." He shrugged. "Whenever you're ready. You'll find me, or I'll find you."

Her smile returned, warmer now. Genuine. "Deal."

With a flick of her wrist, a dark, round hat appeared between her fingers. She placed it atop her head with theatrical ease, tipping it slightly toward him.

"Thank you, Arthur," she said, already turning away. "For agreeing to this."

She took a single step forward and vanished, dissolving into the rain as if she'd never been there at all.

Arthur stared at the empty space she left behind, the city lights reflecting faintly in his eyes.

"Not like you gave me a choice anyway," he muttered, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. Then quieter, more thoughtful, he repeated her words to himself.

'My Equal.'

He shook his head. "Now I'm curious about this."

Turning toward the stairwell that would take him back down, Arthur took a step then stopped.

His gaze lifted, settling on a nearby rooftop across the street. Empty. Silent. Just shadow and gargoyles.

He smiled.

His eyes glowed briefly, violet cutting through the gloom.

"…Batman."
