Diana's words settled over the room.
Arthur's posture didn't change, but Kara felt him tense, Raven's fingers slowly curled around her armrest. Even George, halfway through pouring another glass, paused.
Diana looked between them, then back at Arthur, gentling her tone.
"…It would be better if we spoke about this alone."
Raven lifted her chin.
"No."
Diana blinked once.
Kara added, crossing her arms, "Also it's kinda pointless. I can hear you from a few miles away if I want."
Arthur raised a hand casually.
"They'll stay."
Diana held his gaze for a moment measuring, calculating and finally exhaled a small resigned sigh.
"Very well," she said, settling back. "I suppose it was inevitable."
Arthur waited patiently.
Diana straightened her posture, her regal aura returning.
Then:
"The King of the Gods, Zeus has invited you to meet him in Olympus."
The words hung there, thick and surreal.
Raven's eyes widened a fraction.
Kara was silent.
Even Dexter, curled in George's lap.
Arthur blinked slowly.
Diana continued, "I do not know the purpose of the invitation, but this is… an honor rarely given. Zeus does not meddle with mortals unless the matter is..significant. He clearly sees something in you."
Arthur leaned back, drumming a finger lightly on the arm of his chair.
Kara blinked, confused, leaning closer to Arthur as if she misheard.
"Zeus?" she whispered. "I'm afraid I… don't know who that is."
Diana turned to her with a brief, gentle smile, not surprised but not judgmental.
"That's understandable," she said warmly. "Krypton had its own myths."
She straightened slightly, her tone shifting into something respectful, almost ceremonial.
"Zeus is the King of the Olympian Gods. Ruler of the skies, wielder of lightning, and sovereign of Themyscira's pantheon. My father."
Kara's eyes widened.
"Oh," she said slowly. "Oh. So, like… he is strong."
Diana nodded. "Very."
Kara looked at Arthur, then back at Diana.
"…And he invited him? Personally?"
Diana's eyes softened.
"Yes. Which is something that has not happened in a very, very long time."
Kara mouthed silently, stunned
"…Okay, clearly something bad is about to happen."
Arthur sighed. "Please don't jinx it."
Kara elbowed him lightly.
"Arthur, even I know that being invited by a literal god is a big deal and you don't get along with strangers."
Raven muttered under her breath, "…That's a headache waiting to happen."
Arthur shrugged slightly. "Well… flattering, I guess."
Diana raised an eyebrow. "Flattering? Most leaders travel across realms for less."
Arthur tilted his head. "You're talking to someone who fought a Kryptonian genetic experiment in the middle of the Phantom zone. I don't think Olympus will be mindblowing."
Kara snorted.
Raven covered a grin with her sleeve.
Diana couldn't help the faint amused smile tugging at her lips.
"You are… unlike most heroes."
"Well, I'm not a hero." Arthur said dryly. "I think."
"But," Diana leaned forward slightly, voice low, "Zeus does not extend invitations lightly. If he seeks you, it is because he sees potential...or danger."
"Probably both," Raven muttered.
Arthur tapped his chin, considering… then finally shook his head.
"I'm not interested right now."
Diana blinked. "You're… declining?"
"Postponing," he corrected. "I'll think about it. After I return from a certain trip."
"A trip?" Diana asked curiously. "Where to?"
She didn't finish.
Because Raven shot her a death glare sharp enough to cut through Amazonian armor.
Diana stopped mid-sentence.
Then, with unexpected grace, she raised her hands slightly.
"…You don't have to tell me. If it's personal."
Arthur nodded gratefully. "Nothing serious. Just a trip."
Raven exhaled softly.
Kara smiled and nudged Arthur's shoulder with her knee.
George, relieved the room wasn't about to explode.
Diana studied Arthur one more moment, thoughtful, almost impressed.
"You're a strange man, Arthur Blackwynd."
"Perhaps," he said with a small smirk.
"That wasn't necessarily a compliment."
"Still taking it as one."
Kara giggled. Raven rolled her eyes.
Diana shook her head with a fond exhale, she then rested her elbows lightly on her knees, fingers interlaced, and her eyes settled on Arthur with a calm intensity.
"Arthur," she said softly, "I need to correct you on something."
Arthur raised a brow.
"In my eyes," Diana continued, "you are a hero."
That made Kara stiffen a little. Raven's eyes flicked upward.
Diana didn't waver.
"Strength alone does not make someone heroic," she said, voice warm but edged with truth. "Nor does kindness. What defines true heroism is the willingness to make the decisions others cannot. The ones that weigh on the soul. Decisions that may not be celebrated… but are necessary."
Her gaze drifted, as if recalling her own battles, her own scars.
"I have fought beside gods and men. I've seen beings stronger than mountains crumble when forced to choose between what is right and what is easy. But you.." her eyes returned to him "..you bear the burden without second thoughts. You do what must be done. That is not the trait of a mere warrior."
A faint smile touched her lips.
"That is the trait of a God. And yes… that is a compliment."
Raven's eyes narrowed just slightly.
A thin telepathic whisper threaded into Kara's mind:
"Is she flirting with him?"
Kara didn't look at Raven she kept her eyes forward, jaw tightening just a bit, and nodded once.
Raven stifled a tiny grin.
Arthur exhaled, not flustered but not deflecting either.
"Thank you," he said, voice steady. "But I just do what feels right to me. The outcome of what I do is not necessarily good for everyone else."
Diana nodded, accepting his honesty without judgment.
"That," she said, "is exactly why the gods are watching you."
Kara swallowed. Raven raised a brow. Even George, who is standing discreetly by the door, glanced over.
Diana rose from her seat with the same effortless grace she carried into battle, setting her empty glass quietly on the table.
"I've taken enough of your time," she said, offering Arthur a warm, lingering smile. "Think about what we discussed, If you accept, I'll be the one to accompany you to Olympus."
Arthur gave a slow nod.
"I'll keep that in mind."
Diana's eyes softened, as if she wanted to say more, but she kept her poise. She adjusted her cloak.
Kara watched her closely and Raven's stare was sharp and unreadable, but the tilt of her head said 'I'm watching you.'
Diana noticed both reactions but only chuckled quietly under her breath.
As she stepped toward the door, she paused beside Arthur.
A hand rose not touching him, but hovering just close enough to imply she almost did.
"Do not underestimate your role in this world," she said softly. "Whether you seek it or not, destiny has already taken notice of you."
Arthur held her gaze, expression calm and respectful.
Diana gave him one last nod, then looked to Kara and Raven.
"Kara. Raven. It's good to see you both safe."
Kara replied with a controlled smile.
Raven said nothing.
George opened the door for her, bowing subtly. She thanked him with a small appreciative smile before stepping out into Gotham.
The door closed behind her with a gentle, final click.
Silence settled in the room.
Kara exhaled sharply. "Well… that was interesting."
Raven folded her arms. "Mm."
Arthur rubbed his forehead with a small sigh, just preparing himself for whatever conversation this would lead to next.
George's eyes followed Diana as she took off, her silhouette disappearing beyond the treeline. The moment she was gone, he exhaled through his nose slow, amused, judgmental.
"Well," George said, adjusting his glasses with the kind of elegance only a man thoroughly unimpressed could muster, "It seems some of us are receiving sudden visits from Amazonian royalty. Truly, Master Arthur, your daily life is getting rather… extravagant."
Arthur sighed, rubbing a hand over his face as Kara tried failed to hide her small frown.
"George…"
George raised both brows. "No, no, don't mind me. I'll simply update the schedule to include 'unexpected divine consultations.' Should I pencil in tea with Athena next? Perhaps brunch with Hera?"
Arthur pinched the bridge of his nose, defeated. "How do you know about all of.... Nevermind I'll be leaving," he said, voice steady again. "Handle some business first… then I'll think about this 'god' invitation."
