Chapter 257 - Dark Type Skill

A few people even caught a glimpse of a figure that seemed to be the very soul of the walking dragon standing right before them. After years of painstaking effort and saving, Dark Sonata had finally gathered an army of souls! The cave, which should have been pitch black, was now bathed in a faint green glow emanating from these souls, mingled with a hint of darkness.

Countless souls floated through the air inside the cave, as if desperately fighting for their existence against the creatures that appeared. Each soul had a mouth, seemingly trying to roar, but no sound came out because of their spiritual state. It created an eerie and strange scene, a silent roar filling the space.

While the sheer number of souls was terrifying, what drew Larry's attention even more was a figure deeper inside. Much like the earlier violin figure, this was a black shadow shaped like a human, surrounded by strange Death Aura.

This shadow held a harp crafted from these dark thoughts, and its fingertips continuously plucked at the strings. As the music spread toward a few individuals, these deathly melodies were swallowed up by Gengar's mouth.

As more prey arrived, the music of the Dark Sonata grew louder, building from the beginning into a powerful climax, like a war drum signaling the souls to strike. The black shadow's fingers moved faster and faster, plucking the strings with such intensity that if the harp weren't made of death itself, the strings would have snapped by now. Despite the faster tempo, the music maintained a strange but steady rhythm.

Pyon and Satotz instantly raised their guards to the highest level when they heard the sudden shift in the melody. With such a change, they knew something was about to happen. And sure enough, their suspicions were confirmed. After the high-pitched notes rang out, the souls swirling in the air shifted from aimless wandering and surged directly toward several people!

Although the souls couldn't make sounds, their movement whipped up strong gusts of wind and created a loud noise inside the cave. The sheer number was overwhelming, this place was packed with souls like nothing ordinary people would ever witness in their lifetime. It was like they were being sold wholesale here.

On high alert, Satotz couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat, his gaze unconsciously drifting toward Larry. The tension in the cave was palpable, and the battle was about to begin.

Honestly, it was clear that the two of them couldn't handle these souls on their own. The real key was Larry. At this point, Larry didn't think the situation was too troublesome. If it really became a problem, he could always arrange another meeting with Masha to sort things out.

Since encounters with souls were rare, it made sense to seize this chance and experiment. He wanted to try other skills beyond just ghost-type moves to see if they'd be effective against the souls.

Gengar had just mentioned that these souls could also grant experience points. Conveniently, both Gardevoir and Porygon Z were just a few points shy of reaching S-level, and both had versatile skill sets.

Just as this thought crossed Larry's mind, two figures suddenly appeared before him.

"Two nen beast?" Satotz wondered with curiosity.

He recognized one of them, the teleportation beast, but the other was unfamiliar. It looked oddly strange, almost upside down, resembling an inflatable duck toy in shape. While Satotz was pondering this, Gardevoir and Porygon Z had already begun their attack.

Gardevoir's body radiated a dazzling light, and streams of aura surged outward. With precise control, each orb of energy transformed into a unique skill. Suddenly, a variety of attacks appeared before Gardevoir, each one strange and diverse.

The only thing they had in common was their lethality; any ordinary person would be killed upon contact. Among them were green leaves glowing with an unusual, colorful light, standing out brightly in the dim cave. Each leaf seemed guided by some inner navigation, flying straight toward the souls above. This was the grass-type move, Magic Leaf.

There was also a large, brilliant flame, but unlike normal fire, it shimmered with magical colors. The magnificent flames weren't meant to attack; instead, they were for admiration. The light flowed constantly within the fire, captivating anyone who looked at it. This was the fire-type skill, Magic Flame.

Meanwhile, Porygon Z's aura bubbled like boiling water. In this heated state, attacks manifested instantly before him, a massive blue beam resembling a column of light. The battle was underway, and Larry's team was ready to test their full range of abilities against these mysterious souls.

Wherever the beam of light passed, it left behind a biting cold wind, and anything touched by it would instantly freeze into an ice sculpture. "Ice skill, Ice Beam!"

With a loud chirping sound, like thousands of birds singing, streaks of yellow lightning crackled through the air. "Electric skill, One Hundred Thousand Volts!"

Besides these, Gardevoir and Porygon Z paused intentionally before launching their Shadow Balls together. The earlier attacks were just tests; if those didn't work, the Shadow Balls would finish the job.

"Can you really use so many different abilities at once?" Satotz asked in amazement, staring at the colorful display of powers. The once dark cave was suddenly lit up by the glow of all those skills, and it was the first time he'd ever seen so many abilities unleashed simultaneously.

Based on the nature of the Nen's Abilities, these moves should fall under the category of transformation. Yet, most of what Satotz observed involved only one specific type of transformation.

The aura was often changed into fire or lightning, but he had never seen it transformed into any other element. What he witnessed were mostly flames, leaves, electric shocks, or freezing effects.

Suddenly, loud explosions echoed through the cave, "Boom! Boom! Boom!"

The powerful soul was immediately overwhelmed by attacks, and the blasts kicked up clouds of dust inside the cave. A strong smell of decay mixed with thick smoke drifted deeper into the cavern, slowly covering the figure of a black shadow.

Larry raised an eyebrow as the smoke and dust began to clear, which made sense to him. Aside from ghost-type attacks, most other types of attacks could affect the souls but only very weakly. The exception was dark-type skills.

For example, the dark energy wave from Porygon Z earlier had a clear impact, knocking down numerous souls in an instant. This showed that souls have a strong resistance to all attacks except ghost and dark types. If Gardevoir and Porygon Z weren't powerful, it would be almost impossible to deal any real damage with other moves.

With this understanding, Larry decided not to waste any more time. Following his commands, Gardevoir and Porygon Z immediately unleashed a relentless barrage of attacks. Shadow Balls and dark waves struck the souls one after another, causing their numbers to drop rapidly, so fast it was easy to see with the naked eye.
