Chapter 449 - HP: Wizardry’s a Hassle-Chapter 178: Infiltration

The student leading the mage squad raised his sword vertically, using the blade to block an incoming arrow that burst with red light, then leaped backward. Along his retreat, he swung his heavy sword to kick up a cloud of dust, then applied magical arts to transform it into a stone wall. Behind the wall, the constant sounds of magical attacks hitting the barrier and exploding echoed.

"Everyone fall back, form the Mystic Formation! Watch that guy casting weird spells—he's a foreign dark wizard, be careful!"

His words had barely finished when an explosion sounded to his right. A black-robed figure suddenly appeared, extending a withered hand holding a black wand that emanated strange aura.

"Imperio!"

The hoarse voice chanted, and ghostly blue mist rushed toward him at such speed that the young mage couldn't even raise his sword or cast a defensive spell to protect himself—he could only watch helplessly as the mist was about to strike.

"Heaven and Earth Displacement!"

Almost simultaneously with the Death Eater casting the Imperius Curse, a young mage in the rear reacted with lightning speed, whipping out her weapon while applying an enhancement spell to herself. The whip's tip reached the squad leader far faster than the Imperius Curse, instantly coiling around him. A skillful force pulled the squad leader out of the curse's attack range.

"Whew~ That was close! Also, Huazi! You're way too heavy!"

The whip deposited the boy the girl called "Huazi" on the ground. The girl wiped sweat from her face and grimaced while shaking her aching whip-wielding hand.

If she hadn't happened to know this technique that could temporarily strengthen her control and inner force through spiritual power, Huazi would have taken that spell hit.

"Thanks, Xiao Ya. Also, my weight comes from my weapon, okay?"

Upon landing, Huazi relied on his body's rotation to swing his heavy sword, using the blade to channel magical arts and unleashing wave after wave of blazing energy strikes toward the Death Eater who'd just attacked him. The latter's form was engulfed in flames, but left no evidence of being hit.

Using movement magic to relocate again—damn it.

Though still bantering easily with his teammate, Huazi felt anything but relaxed. The other dark wizards were manageable, but this one with a completely different fighting style was truly troublesome.

"Fali, how are you holding up? Can you still fight? Get up and put some pressure on them. If not, we'll have to signal Pei Heng for immediate retreat."

The boy and girl stood together, wielding their weapons to fire spell after spell, breaking apart the rapid offensive launched by the approaching dark wizards. Behind them knelt a boy catching his breath heavily.

"Stop nagging, I've recovered. Damn it, what kind of dark magic was that? It could act directly on my soul!"

The boy named Fali carried a plain longbow on his back. His face was currently pale and sweaty, his raised fingers trembling slightly.

Just moments ago, when he'd barely managed to dodge a death-aura green spell through his keen crisis perception, then concealed himself to continue shooting, a red lightning chain had struck him directly.

Soul-deep, drilling pain made him scream involuntarily. The concealment spell on his body couldn't be maintained, and he lost all strength, falling from the tree and exposing himself on the battlefield.

Thus the originally evenly matched battle began tilting toward the dark wizards.

With his cultivation focused on scouting, he clearly understood even through the pain that once his position was exposed, he'd become the dark wizards' primary target.

His teammates had fallen into disadvantage trying to protect him, fleeing in disarray, even allowing that strange dark wizard who previously didn't dare approach to close in for counterattacks.

"Streaming Light Shadow Arrows!"

Finally recovering from the Cruciatus Curse's agony, the boy named Fali erupted with white radiance. He rose and drew his bow, and arrows formed from condensed spiritual power appeared on the previously empty bowstring. He suddenly opened his eyes, locking onto incoming auras one by one. Accompanying his chanted incantation, he released his grip.

Streams of light scattered like meteors chasing the moon, piercing toward every dark wizard attempting to attack.

"Protego."

While other dark wizards either shattered the light arrows with their weapons or roared to burst forth dark energy that dissolved the arrows, the Death Eater simply raised his right hand lightly, lifting his wand to cast the Shield Charm.

The invisible barrier contacted the spiritually condensed arrows, instantly scattering them into points of light.

"Stop struggling."

He spoke slowly, warning the three young mages in English.

"Give up early—it'll save you much pain and me considerable effort."

"What's that bird saying in bird language?"

Fali looked up, drew his bow and shot. He couldn't understand English anyway, and even if he could, he'd only do one thing.

"If you come to our Dragon Kingdom, speak Chinese, you bastard!"

Facing the spiritual arrow aimed straight at his face, the Death Eater used the same trick—the Shield Charm appeared once more.

But after the light arrow struck the invisible barrier, though it also dissolved, it burst with blinding white light, instantly blinding the Death Eater.

"Damn brat! Apparition!"

With everything white before his eyes, the Death Eater didn't dare remain in place, instantly Apparating away to hide behind other dark wizards.

"Keep protecting me, let me handle the output. I'll teach these ignorant fools a proper lesson."

The Death Eater shouted thus, his wand beginning to emit high heat.

Through the recent attack, he'd understood one thing—these Dragon Kingdom students had excellent physical conditioning, and their agility made non-targeting spells difficult to hit. Though his own Killing Curse wasn't particularly skilled, wasn't it too ridiculous that these underage children could dodge the Killing Curse through evasion alone?

In that case, he'd use Fiendfyre to devour them along with this entire forest!

"Not to be rude, but could you say something we can understand instead of bird language?"

Regarding this guy behind them constantly giving orders in a language they couldn't understand, many dark wizards had long harbored resentment. If their boss hadn't instructed them to cooperate with this fellow, he would have been chopped up long ago.

"Acting all high and mighty like a bastard—who do you think you are!"

A rough voice complained thus.

"Yeah, yeah, just a stray dog!"

Hermione, mixed in among the dark wizard ranks, hadn't bothered hiding herself at all, chiming in with a hoarse voice in Chinese.
