Throughout the research process, all three of them gained significant insights.
Dumbledore and Hermione marveled at the theories and knowledge Glenn shared, while Glenn and Hermione benefited greatly from Dumbledore's profound wisdom.
Hermione might just be the biggest winner of all~
Like a dried sponge, the young girl eagerly absorbed knowledge to fill her mind. Her quick thinking allowed her to integrate and apply this knowledge back into their research, and she thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
Although the knowledge Dumbledore imparted during the research on the magical monitoring system wasn't related to advanced spells but rather foundational concepts of magic and magical energy, Hermione felt it was an absolute treasure trove.
Not just a treasure—it was a jackpot.
These were the very foundations upon which the magical world was built!
And it was explained at Dumbledore's unparalleled level, making it as easy to understand as being spoon-fed.
This was far faster than figuring things out on her own through reading.
Hermione was completely engrossed, to the point where even the books she usually carried with her lost their appeal.
Glenn, however, wasn't worried about Hermione "falling" into this state permanently. Once their limited daily research discussions ended, she returned to her usual self.
Like Hermione, Glenn also gained a wealth of knowledge.
Every matter has multiple perspectives, and the way each person views the same thing and the conclusions they draw can differ greatly. Having often collaborated and communicated with Hermione, Glenn deeply understood this principle. His perspective on magical energy transmission in monitoring systems was vastly different from Dumbledore's.
And, of course, Dumbledore's perspective, coming from the high vantage point of the magical world, was far more efficient and logical.
It was clear that Glenn's knowledge was still insufficient, and his vision remained limited.
Dumbledore's insights and suggestions provided Glenn with many ideas. With Hermione's assistance, and after more than three months of effort, the wizarding world's monitoring system was finally born.
...
—Outside the Headmaster's Office—
"Click."
After a long absence, the gargoyle leapt aside, revealing the automatic ascending staircase leading to the top. Outside the wooden door of the headmaster's office, Glenn cast the Spider Walk spell on himself, clinging to the wall. In his left hand, he held a small device, which he pressed into a shadowed corner of the door.
The Hand of Sorcery emitted a faint glow as the alchemical circuit expanded momentarily from the connection point between the device and the wall before disappearing.
"Camera installed. Magical energy transmission connected."
Glenn didn't remove his left hand immediately. He lifted the black silk covering his eyes to observe the magical energy in the air.
A few seconds later, the camera successfully connected to the terminal.
Removing the Spider Walk spell, Glenn landed on the ground, looked up, and waved at the camera.
The camera, seemingly responding to Glenn's gesture, tilted slightly from side to side.
Glenn then lowered his head and retrieved a flat, rectangular object from the black ring on his left hand.
A black metallic casing with a crystal screen.
It resembled a smartphone, but it was merely a small monitoring terminal designed to receive images captured by the camera.
Currently, the crystal screen displayed only one image: Glenn himself, looking down at the terminal.
Without touching it, Glenn simply willed the monitoring image to zoom in.
"This should do the trick."
Putting away the terminal, Glenn pushed open the door to the headmaster's office. Inside, Hermione was sprawled on the sofa, enthusiastically flipping through a white, metallic-cased terminal. The camera's earlier movement had been controlled by her through this device.
Dumbledore, as usual, sat behind his desk. On his desk stood a large-screen upright terminal.
Hermione thought that, given Dumbledore's age, having a larger screen for his terminal would be easier on his eyes.
"Glenn, we did it!"
Seeing Glenn enter, Hermione raised the terminal in her hand, excitedly leaping into his arms, nuzzling against him as she cheered.
It was no wonder Hermione was so thrilled. Over the past few months, the number of discarded designs alone had reached hundreds. The workload of drafting and illustrating these designs, which Hermione handled through magic, had honed her skills with the quill-controlling spell and ink-reorganizing charms to levels far beyond what she had achieved before. The volume of these designs nearly matched the amount of notes she had taken on magical knowledge since her first year.
Effort pays off. On their 274th attempt, the camera installation and the successful connection of the monitoring system marked the completion of their project, the "Hogwarts Monitoring Network."
Hugging Hermione, Glenn patted her head, nodded, and then turned his gaze to Dumbledore, who was squinting through his glasses at the monitoring screen.
"Professor Dumbledore, all that's left is to install the cameras at the designated locations. I can—"
"No rush, Glenn. Installing them when you return after the holidays will be just as fine."
Dumbledore raised his head, adjusted his glasses, and smiled at the sight of the young girl snuggling into the boy's arms.
"Today is the last day of the term. Take it easy and enjoy yourselves."
That was true. Both Glenn and Hermione were workaholics. Once immersed in their research, they abandoned all other leisure activities, heading straight to Dumbledore's office after class to dive into discussions.
While their classmates had grown accustomed to their frequent absences, it was true that Glenn and Hermione hadn't taken a break for months.
Moreover, they hadn't slacked off in their studies or personal practice. Both performed excellently in their final exams.
Of course, Hermione retained her position as the top of the year.
Once again, Glenn lost to her in the exams.
He simply couldn't beat her—his knowledge of magical history was still lacking.
Even so, he managed to secure the second-highest score in the year.
Glenn was something of an academic wizard himself, but only another academic wizard could surpass him.
"Time really flies. I still don't feel like the holidays are here," Hermione stretched lazily as they left Dumbledore's office, reflecting.
Despite being busy with Glenn since Christmas, Hermione still felt this lifestyle was relaxing.
"That's because so many troublesome things happened earlier this year."
"If those incidents hadn't occurred, our lives would have been even more carefree and pleasant."
Glenn replied calmly.
"You're using words like 'pleasant' now, huh?"
"Ever since becoming your boyfriend, I've deeply and profoundly experienced this emotion. Now I can accurately use it in daily life."
"Oh~ is that so~"
"Hehe~"
