Chapter 7 - Chapter 6 First Impressions

Being the new kid in school was already a pain, but when said school was Jujutsu High, things got real annoying real fast.

"Quit slacking off Fushiguro and come help me!"

The moment I stepped into the field alongside Gojo, numerous pairs of eyes landed on me.

A girl with a pretty face and short brown hair. Or at least, I would think she was pretty if not for the throbbing veins, gritted teeth and ticked off expression she currently carried.

'The equivalent of Sakura. Must stay away from.'

The next was a guy with spiky black hair and an expression I could relate to. 'Gloomy and brooding. I take it he's either the class Sasuke, or perhaps Shikamaru. He isn't goodlooking enough for the former, so probably the latter.'

Another female with green hair, glasses and holding a long staff. Typical no nonsense warrior woman from my perspective though for some reason, I found that somewhat attractive. Next, a short, slim guy with platinum blonde hair almost matching mine in color with a high zipped collar covering his mouth and the vibe of an emo child. And weirdest of all, a panda walking on two feet.

'There goes my hopes for not seeing anything weird on the first day. Though cursed spirits run around so I shouldn't be so surprised.'

'However, there's too few students here. I thought I'd be able to see the whole class?'

"Gojo?"

"The one and only."

I heard a collective sigh.

"Oh, it's you." The green haired female uttered in a slightly exasperated voice. Then her eyes turned in my direction.

"Who's this?"

"Judging from his age and the fact he's with Gojo, I'd take it he's another first year." The panda answered for her.

"Hold on... The panda can talk?" I asked out loud. Is he a cursed spirit or something? Everyone looked at me.

"Yes he can." Gojo answered my question. "And also, ten points for Panda. Second years, this is your new underclassman. Megumi, Nobara, your new teammate."

"See, I was right. Though, he doesn't look much like a Jujutsu Sorcerer." Panda added.

"No offense."

"None taken."

"Kelp." I heard the one with the high zipped collar say something I didn't understand.

"Huh? Another first year? Where does Gojo find you guys from?" The green haired female cut into my thoughts, before turning to the others.

"Megumi, Nobara, he's yours then."

I saw the spiky haired dude, who apparently went by the name Megumi, stand up from his seating position.

"Right. I'm Megumi Fushiguro. Welcome to Jujutsu Tech."

"Thanks, I guess..." I replied, sweeping my gaze across them.

"... Are you guys the only ones here?"

"Yeah." Gojo interjected. "Those three are Panda, Toge and Maki, they're the second years, and hence, your upperclassmen. And those two, are Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. They're your fellow underclassmen and your teammates from now on."

"Ok, have the others already finished training?"

"Huh? Oh, I see what you mean now. Unfortunately no, these are all of them."

"Huh? For real?"

"Yeah, for real."

"...." I practically didn't even know what to say at this point. Only five students consisting of the first years and second years. Could that even be considered a school?

"Of course there's Yuta Okkotsu, but he's an upperclassman and is currently overseas. There was an extra underclassman by the name of Yuji Itadori, but that's not important. Oh, I just remembered I haven't introduced you yet."

Gojo said, as if remembering something.

Then grinned and clapped his hands together. "Alright, everyone! Meet our newest student—"

I cut him off. "No."

He ignored me. "—the future heartthrob of Jujutsu High—"

"Absolutely not."

"—the man who will finally break his tragic streak of being single—"

"I will punch you Gojo!"

"—Ryota Fujimura!"

Silence filled the open field as everyone processed my presence.

Then the girl smirked. "So you're single, huh?"

I sighed. "Why is that the part you focused on?"

Gojo slung an arm over my shoulder again. "Because that's your character arc, my dude. Now go on, introduce yourself properly!"

I pinched the bridge of my nose, already regretting every life choice that led me to this moment. But I might as well get this over with.

"I'm Ryota Fujimura. I have no interest in making friends. I was forced to be here. I will be leaving as soon as possible. That's all."

"...."

Silence, until...

Panda whistled. "Damn. He's worse than Fushiguro."

"I'll say." Maki and Nobara said simultaneously. Then looked at each other and said simultaneously. "No offense Megumi."

The black-haired guy—Megumi Fushiguro—just sighed. "I don't care."

---

**Megumi's POV**

Earlier today, I felt strangely agitated for no reason.

'Now I know why.'

I thought as I looked at the kid Gojo brought. No, most likely abducted into Jujutsu High.

I could smell the trouble that would emerge from a mile away.

'Dammit Gojo. First Yuji, and now this.'

Looking at the new guy—Ryota—I couldn't help but notice the similarities. The reluctant attitude, the obvious discomfort with being here, the way Gojo seemed to find the whole situation amusing.

"Sorry, but I gotta ask. Did Gojo kidnap you against your will or something?" I asked, breaking up their ongoing banter while examining who seemed to be my new teammate.

He had platinum blonde hair, similar in color to Toge's but with a slightly brighter shade. Fair angled features, short mousy hair and a look I had last seen on... well, strangely enough, me.

"Because from the looks of it, you don't seem to want to be here very much."

"He wished he could kidnap me," I saw him reply with a roll of his eyes. Quite a cocky statement.

"Unfortunately, my mother was the culprit this time."

"Your... mother?" Panda echoed, sounding amused.

His lips twitched.

"It's complicated."

I raised an eyebrow, but didn't push further. With Gojo's character, I would find out sooner or later if it was anything important.

"Anyway, like I said, welcome to Jujutsu High. You've already been introduced to everyone else." I gestured around the field. "We're just finishing up some basic training exercises. Nothing too intense."

I paused, studying his expression. Unlike most new students who were either nervous or excited, he just looked... tired. Resigned.

"The dorms are just past the main building if you want to get settled in. Classes don't start until tomorrow, so you've got time to figure things out."

"Thanks." His response was brief but genuine. "That actually sounds perfect."

---

**Gojo's POV**

'Interesting.'

I watched the interaction between Megumi and Ryota with growing amusement. Two socially reluctant kids trying to navigate a conversation—it was like watching two cats trying to figure out how to share the same cardboard box.

But there was something else. The way Ryota carried himself, the casual confidence despite clearly not wanting to be here, and the lack of Cursed energy entirely.

'Reika-san wasn't exaggerating when she said he was... unique.' There was no doubt about it.

The first two pointed at great confidence in his own strength. Judging that his own mother was a special grade, that confidence couldn't be unfounded.

The last one hinted at a Heavenly Pact. Zero cursed energy in exchange for superhuman Physical Prowess. I could tell. The Six eyes could sense cursed energy on a Molecular level.

And every human in the Jujutsu world world radiated cursed energy to a certain extent. Those who could go beyond a certain threshold and control it so it doesn't leak out were the gifted ones with potential to become Jujutsu Sorcerers. Even if that line wasn't reached, the cursed spirits that sorcerers battle were the result of the cursed energy leaked by humans who couldn't become sorcerers. Everyone exhibited cursed energy, just in different amounts.

Hence even blindfolded, my eyes could see everything in my range of perception. And so far, there had only been one exception to this rule.

That was Megumi's father.

Toji Zenin, The Sorcerer Killer. Nearly killed me too.

A man with no cursed energy whatsoever. As a result, he was practically invisible to barriers and Jujutsu Sorcerers who relied on cursed energy perception. Add that to his superhuman physical prowess, he was practically a sorcerer's worst nightmare.

An Invisible Assassin.

Previously, he had been the only exception to this rule. The only one I had ever seen with a complete lack of Cursed energy. Not even Maki had that.

Today that number had gone up by one. No one else in the Jujutsu world was more qualified to make that judgement. Because without relying on my other senses, he was practically an invisible man to me as well.

'Hehe, this kid's gonna be a nightmare combatant. From Reika san's tone, he might already be. Though his movements don't reflect proper training at all. His guard's down, no combat readiness.'

"Hey Ryota," I called out, causing both first years to look my way. "Before you disappear to your room, mind if I ask you something?"

He looked at me with barely concealed suspicion. "Depends on the question."

"What's your take on cursed spirits? Ever fought one before?"

"Depends." He shrugged. "What's your definition of a fight."

".."

Expecting a simple answer, I was caught slightly off guard before recovering. That question carried implications that could go both ways.

"I mean throwing blows."

"Does one count? They usually aren't durable enough to last past that."

".."

One punch? Really? I could see everyone's expression at his nonchalant words. It made me wanna chuckle.

"Hmm ...". I put my hand on my chin. "I guess it depends really. Any First grades among them?"

The question seemed innocent enough, but I watched his micro-expressions carefully. There—a slight tightening around his eyes, a barely perceptible shift in posture.

"Quite a few," he replied evenly. "They're annoying."

'Annoying.' Not scary, not challenging, not dangerous. Annoying.

"I see." I rubbed my chin thoughtfully. "And what about cursed users? Ever run into any of those?"

This time, the shift was more noticeable. He raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you ask?"

"Oh, just curious about your experience level. Helps me figure out where to place you in terms of training and missions."

Ryota was quiet for a long moment, clearly weighing how much to reveal. Finally, he shrugged.

"I can handle myself if that's what you're worried about. My mom's a special grade, and I've had my own fair share of assassinations due to it. Like I said, I can take care of myself, but I'd prefer not to have to."

'Can handle himself huh?'

"Fair enough. Well then—"

"Are you serious here?" A voice interrupted. 'Oh, finally couldn't hold back huh?' Maki interrupted, stepping forward with her staff resting across her shoulders. "I wasn't gonna talk but since we're talking about experience .... And this discussion between you two sounds a bit outrageous in my ears, mind if I ask what your deal is? No cursed energy, claims he can handle cursed spirits... You're not exactly fitting the typical sorcerer profile."

Maki was just like Ryota. Well, almost. SE still had cursed energy but it was very, very negligible. Hence, she couldn't even see cursed spirits. However, she had a Heavenly pact and her physical prowess was beyond human. Coupled with these of cursed tools, she had carved out her own path, compensating for her own weaknesses.

By now, everyone should have noticed Ryota's lack of Cursed energy. Well, except Nobara of course. Girl still looks confused. But only Maki would speak up on it and express her interest.

Not romantic interest of course. That would be a miracle.

Why would she?

Because Maki's condition was similar.

Maki was a strong woman. Her courage to leave the Zenin clan due to their discrimination of her gifts showed it. Her only goal currently was to get stronger with her special physique, and sow that even without cursed energy she could become a strong sorcerer.

Then, ... This guy showed up, without a speck of Cursed Energy, claiming to blow apart First grades with a single strike.

'Well, this should be fun.'

I saw Ryota's expression shift to something approaching interest for the first time since arriving.

"You can tell I don't have cursed energy?"

"It's pretty obvious when you know what to look for," Maki replied with a slight smirk. "The question is whether you're like me—physically enhanced to compensate—or if you're just completely normal and way in over your head."

For a moment, I thought Ryota might actually engage. There was a spark of something in his eyes, like he was considering whether this conversation was worth having.

Then it died.

"Neither," he said simply. "I'm just me."

And with that non-answer, he turned back toward the main building.

"Room assignments are posted in the main hall," I called after him. "Your stuff should already be in your room courtesy of your lovely mother!"

He raised a hand in acknowledgment without turning around, and just like that, our newest student disappeared into the building.

---

**General POV**

"Well," Panda said after a moment of silence. "That was... something."

"He's definitely hiding something," Maki muttered, adjusting her glasses. "No cursed energy but claims he can fight cursed spirits? Either he's delusional or..."

"Or he's got something else going on," Megumi finished. "Wouldn't be the first time Gojo brought in someone unusual."

"Salmon," Toge agreed with a nod.

"Hey, Gojo." Maki turned her head, expression impassive. "Who is he really?"

"Huh? I thought he just introduced himself. Weren't you paying attention, Maki? That's not very nice."

"Quit playing dumb, you idiot!" Maki yelled, veins appearing on her forehead. "You know what I'm talking about!"

"Yeah, Gojo-sensei. Who is he?" Nobara asked. "Is he actually strong?"

"Well, I don't really know," Gojo said with a casual shrug. "I'm not that familiar with him personally. Haven't had the chance to test his strength yet. His mom's a Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer, had to drag him all the way here with that unwilling expression and—"

The silence that followed was deafening.

"What?" Gojo asked, noticing their stunned faces.

"...Hold on, he wasn't joking?" Panda asked slowly.

"About being brought here forcefully by his mom? Nah, that's as true as it gets."

Maki clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth. "Not that."

"The part about her being a Special Grade sorcerer," Megumi continued, his face clearly intrigued.

"Oh? That?" Gojo's smile widened. "Oh yeah, he ain't kidding there. His mom's name is Reika Fujimura, and yeah, she's a Special Grade. We're acquaintances. Met her back in the day a few years ago under... unpleasant circumstances."

"A Special Grade?" Nobara's voice pitched higher. "Like you?"

"There are only four registered Special Grade sorcerers in all of Japan," Megumi said quietly. "Gojo-sensei, Yuta-senpai, that guy Geto who went rogue, and..."

"And now you know the fourth," Gojo confirmed. "She's the real deal. Could level a city block if she wanted to."

"But if his mom's a Special Grade," Panda wondered aloud, "then why send him here? Shouldn't she be able to train him herself?"

Gojo's expression grew slightly more serious. "Those are private details. Can't really say much yet. You're teammates now, so you're more than welcome to try asking him yourselves. He seems pretty chill—maybe he'll tell you."

He paused, then added with his characteristic grin, "His situation should be similar to yours, Maki. He's strong. Very strong, that I can tell. So you all try to get along now."

"Similar to mine?" Maki repeated, but Gojo was already turning away.

"Probably for the best too. The Sister School Exchange Event is coming up. One more strong teammate is all in your favor." He waved dismissively. "I've got somewhere to be, so see you later!"

As their teacher disappeared, the students stood in contemplative silence.

"A Special Grade's son," Nobara murmured. "No wonder he acts so confident."

"It's not just that," Maki said thoughtfully. "Gojo said his situation is similar to mine. That means..."

"Heavenly Restriction," Megumi finished. "No cursed energy, but enhanced physical abilities."

"But he said cursed spirits are just 'annoying,'" Panda pointed out. "That's pretty casual for someone dealing with First Grades."

"Tuna mayo," Toge added with a concerned expression.

"Yeah," Megumi agreed. "Something doesn't add up. Even with Heavenly Restriction, First Grade cursed spirits aren't something you dismiss as 'annoying.'"

Maki was quiet for a long moment, staring at the building where Ryota had disappeared. Finally, she spoke.

"Tomorrow's gonna be interesting."
