Chapter 547: The Seventh Gate, Open!
Neji felt his body being pulled by an immense force, stumbling forward two steps involuntarily. Before he could regain his footing, Madara's right fist shot out like a thunderbolt.
In that moment, he heard the horrified gasps of Lee and Tenten behind him. Am I going to die? he thought. What a pity. There are still so many dreams I haven't achieved.
Madara Uchiha had put his full strength into this punch. But when it was just two inches from Neji's face, it was caught in a tight grip by a hand as rough as sandpaper.
The other's five fingers dug into the back of Madara's hand with immense force. Madara struggled for a moment, only to find he couldn't break free.
He knew his own strength was considerable, and he even had Hashirama's cells in his body. Yet, in this contest of strength, he was completely outmatched.
He looked up.
Might Guy had opened the sixth of the Eight Gates, the Gate of Joy. Green vapor steamed from his body, veins bulged on his forehead, and his eyes were bloodshot.
"You will not harm my students!" Guy-sensei's heart was filled with rage. Damn it! If I hadn't been seasick, my student wouldn't have been injured. This is all my fault!
Madara Uchiha tried to pull his hand free twice more, but he still couldn't escape Might Guy's grasp.
He had no choice but to attack Neji to force Guy to defend. He aimed a sharp kick at Neji's chest. Might Guy immediately released his fist and blocked the kick with a Leaf Whirlwind.
Their legs collided in mid-air, creating a faint sonic boom.
"Neji, fall back. Leave this guy to me!" Might Guy said with absolute resolve.
Neji had taken a kick to the chest and was severely injured. He nodded, and with Tenten and Lee's help, retreated to the edge of the battlefield.
Madara Uchiha no longer paid any attention to the small fry. Instead, he looked at Might Guy with great interest.
He had misjudged him. He'd thought he was just some sick cat, but he never expected... for him to be this strong!
Experts could roughly sense each other's strength. Madara had never met Ino before, but the moment he saw her, he knew she was a master who required his full attention. He didn't get that same feeling from Hayate Gekko.
The seasick Might Guy and the Might Guy with the sixth gate open were two completely different concepts in his eyes.
"The Eight Gates Released Formation? Incredible. To have trained to this level." Madara had seen the Eight Gates before. He had also seen it when Lee used the Front Lotus.
Might Guy and Lee wore the same training uniform; they were clearly master and student. It would be stranger if the student knew the Eight Gates and the master didn't.
"Let me test your mettle." Madara's ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu had all reached the pinnacle for a ninja, but there was no need to fight the opponent on his own terms.
He quickly created distance, forming hand seals in the order of Rat, Ox, Dog, Horse, Monkey, Boar, and Tiger. Within a second, he completed the seven seals and spat a massive fireball, like a meteor, towards the ground.
"Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!"
The fireball itself had a diameter of over ten meters. The heatwave distorted the light. Tenten watched in horror. Could such a catastrophic ninjutsu really be performed by a ninja?
Concerned for the safety of his students, Might Guy forced himself to overcome the aftereffects of his seasickness. Or perhaps it wasn't so much overcoming it as simply forgetting it.
Guy-sensei didn't dare to dodge. If he did, his students, who hadn't gotten far, would be caught in the blast.
He gritted his teeth.
He faced the descending fireball with both fists, launching a continuous barrage of punches that rained down on the sky.
"Morning Peacock!"
His punches were so fast that the friction with the air created a multitude of small fireballs.
The fireballs from his high-speed attack filled the entire sky. The jutsu was as magnificent as a peacock displaying its tail, hence its name.
The dense fireballs struck the Great Fire Annihilation. One was a physical attack, the other a ninjutsu. The massive, meteor-like fireball was soon overwhelmed by the numerous physical attacks, but Madara's fire ninjutsu also neutralized the Morning Peacock.
It was a draw.
"Your perseverance and talent are both admirable. To have trained taijutsu to this level is truly rare in the ninja world. You are worthy of my full power!" The arrogance in Madara Uchiha's expression vanished, replaced by extreme seriousness.
His Mangekyo Sharingan spun rapidly, and his spiritual energy materialized. A blue Susano'o rose from the ground. Out of respect for Guy, Madara even covered the Susano'o's exterior with a layer of Karasu Tengu armor, bringing it to its fourth stage, just one step away from a perfect Susano'o.
Without the Rinnegan, this was the most he could do for now, and he felt it was enough.
In his mind, only a ninja like Hashirama Senju was a worthy opponent. Ino was barely a major threat. Might Guy? Sorry, he was just dealing with a taijutsu brute!
This was the first time Might Guy had seen a Susano'o with a head, arms, and legs that could stand upright. Before he could process much more, his first thought was how tall it was.
Madara Uchiha's voice boomed from above: "Konoha's Noble Blue Beast, your destiny ends here!"
Without a Wood Golem of the same level to block him, Madara felt a bit bored. He controlled the Susano'o's arm to swing its giant energy sword, slashing at Might Guy on the ground.
Might Guy dodged left and right. The energy sword carved trenches in the ground, covering the left, center, and right directions. His space to evade grew smaller and smaller.
This couldn't go on. It was too passive.
Guy-sensei racked his brain, going over all his signature moves. He realized that from the ground, he really couldn't reach Madara Uchiha high above.
What to do? He was a man of action. His body's reaction speed was always faster than his mind's.
"The Seventh Gate, the Gate of Shock, open!" First, he took a secret medicine from Tsunade to keep his cells active. Then, he stimulated his chakra pathways and opened the seventh gate. The green vapor surrounding him instantly turned blue.
The chakra erupting from his body formed a violent shockwave. The air was compressed, and the shockwave swept out in all directions with him at the center. Sand and stones flew. Neji, Tenten, and Lee quickly shielded their eyes with their arms.
Opening the seventh gate was a heavy burden on Might Guy's body. He felt a series of faint cracking sounds from his bones, something that had never happened when he opened the first six gates.
Facing the Susano'o's raised giant sword, he crossed his fingers, inhaled deeply, compressing the air in his chest and abdomen, and then unleashed it all in one go.
The air cannon took the shape of a tiger. He named this move "Daytime Tiger!"
The white, translucent air cannon, Daytime Tiger, was like a ferocious predator. With a tiger's roar, it shot straight at the Susano'o's chest.
The impact was almost irresistible. Even though Madara's control over the Susano'o was almost instinctive, he couldn't maintain his footing. The towering Susano'o was sent flying by the blow.
