Name: Beedrill
Type: Poison/Bug
Ability: Sniper (When an attack lands a critical hit, the damage is increased by an additional 50% beyond the normal critical hit multiplier, resulting in 2.25× damage instead of the usual 1.5×)
Level: 89 (Champion-level Pokémon)
"Giovanni failed at his schemes, so now he's bringing out his strongest main fighter right away?!"
Eddie's mind raced as he analyzed the threat before him. "And this Beedrill has the Sniper ability, too. With its power level and that ability, a single critical hit could take out any of my Pokémon instantly."
Everything happened in a flash. Before Eddie had even finished speaking, the terrifying giant wasp had already closed the distance at incredible speed.
Wielding its twin stingers like a master dual-wielding swordsman, Beedrill thrust forward dozens of times in the blink of an eye.
Its target was Eddie himself!
Any ordinary person facing this monstrous Beedrill would have been skewered on the spot.
However, Eddie was far from ordinary. While he didn't have a Pokémon capable of matching Beedrill in direct combat, he did have a Legendary on his side.
"Mewtwo! Intercept it!"
Understood!
Responding telepathically, Mewtwo gripped its psychic spoon and rushed toward Beedrill.
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!
The twin stingers wielded by Beedrill and the spoon wielded by Mewtwo collided repeatedly in rapid succession. The two combatants appeared evenly matched.
But in terms of pure speed, Mewtwo couldn't keep up with this particular Beedrill!
Facing a Beedrill capable of delivering dozens—even hundreds—of strikes in mere moments, Mewtwo found itself forced onto the defensive. Most of the time, it could only use its spoon and psychic powers to deflect attacks, with no opportunity to counterattack.
"Bug-types do have an advantage against Psychic-types, but this Beedrill is on another level entirely!"
Eddie's eyes widened in amazement. "So this is Giovanni's ace Pokémon—the legendary perfect IV Beedrill? It's absolutely terrifying!"
A regular Pokémon fighting a Legendary to a standstill—even seeming to have the upper hand—was almost unheard of.
Admittedly, part of this was because Mewtwo had only recently awakened and hadn't fully mastered its own power or gained much combat experience. Even so, how many beings in this world could actually suppress Mewtwo in battle?
Unfortunately, the Beedrill before him was one of those rare Pokémon with that capability.
"Thank goodness we have Mewtwo. Otherwise, this Beedrill would've picked off all our Pokémon one by one."
Despite Eddie's words of relief, his expression showed little comfort. No matter how he looked at it, this Beedrill was simply too powerful. Mewtwo was being pushed back, and it didn't look like either side would achieve victory anytime soon.
The shockwaves from the battle between Mewtwo and Beedrill had already caught the attention of many onlookers.
The Team Rocket members and Alliance forces engaged in their life-or-death struggle barely noticed—they were too focused on the enemies directly in front of them to care about anything else.
But the players were different. Seeking thrills had always been part of their nature. Some players who'd grown bored of the ground battle had already stopped fighting and found vantage points to watch. A few even mounted their Flying-type Pokémon to get a better view of the aerial combat.
"I don't recognize that other one, but isn't the second one just a Beedrill? It's a Beedrill, right?!"
"Holy crap, Beedrill can be this strong?! I'm starting to think it's not actually a Beedrill—it must be some other Pokémon in disguise!"
"I must've raised a fake Beedrill this whole time. There's no way this is normal—it has to be some kind of mutation!"
The spectating players chattered among themselves, completely oblivious to the fact that the aftershocks from Mewtwo and Beedrill's clash were getting dangerously close to their position.
"Are these people complete idiots? Whatever. Beedrill! Use Pin Missile!"
Giovanni now stood at the entrance of Silph Co. Using Dig, he'd tunneled straight down from the top floor to ground level.
Although he was quite far from Beedrill now, he'd equipped it with a communication device that allowed it to receive his commands from a distance.
At that moment, upon receiving Giovanni's order, Beedrill gathered its energy and instantly fired countless sharp, poisonous needles from its twin stingers.
The attack came swiftly, but Mewtwo's reaction time was equally impressive.
As the barrage of poisonous needles hurtled toward it, Mewtwo used Agility to dodge the attack in an instant.
Then...
"What the—?! Get out of the way... Ahhhhh!"
"Is that Pin Missile?! How can it be this powerful?! Aaaaagh!"
"There's no way a Beedrill can launch an attack like this!"
The players who'd been spectating while riding Flying-type Pokémon were caught directly in Beedrill's attack.
Essentially, anyone struck by Beedrill's barrage died instantly. Numerous players and their Pokémon were eliminated mid-air after being hit, then plummeted toward the ground below.
"Hmph. Bunch of morons. Sure, the players themselves won't actually die permanently, but their Pokémon are gone for good. They'll have to start over from scratch."
Watching the players get caught in the crossfire and eliminated, Eddie felt no sympathy whatsoever. In fact, he almost wanted to laugh.
Either way, Eddie was too preoccupied to pay them any mind. Those people weren't even on his level.
"Mewtwo! Keep fighting Beedrill! I'll handle Giovanni myself!"
Eddie realized that if he just stood by watching this high-speed aerial battle, he'd only be holding Mewtwo back.
Just look at those players who'd tried to spectate—they weren't strong enough to be here, and the mere aftershocks of Mewtwo and Beedrill's exchanges could kill them at any moment.
Of course, Eddie was strong enough that he wouldn't be taken out so easily. But as long as he remained in the battle zone, Mewtwo would have to divert some of its attention to protecting him.
Under the current circumstances, with Giovanni's commands, Beedrill had been steadily suppressing Mewtwo.
While Eddie's tactical skills were certainly on par with Giovanni's, the crucial difference was positioning. Giovanni was in a safe location where he could issue commands without any restrictions, whereas Eddie was in the active combat zone. He had to divide his focus between commanding and defending against potential sneak attacks from Giovanni.
Given this situation, Eddie chose to descend and re-engage Giovanni directly. This would also disrupt Giovanni's ability to command Beedrill effectively, leaving both Mewtwo and Beedrill to battle without their trainers' guidance.
That way, even though Beedrill's Bug/Poison typing gave it a significant advantage against Mewtwo's Psychic type, the Legendary Pokémon could still hold its own in the fight.
Mewtwo might not be able to defeat Beedrill, but at least it wouldn't be defeated either.
This was exactly the outcome Eddie wanted—at least for the time being.
"Giovanni! Round two—let's go!"
Eddie leaped from Charizard's back onto Garchomp, then shouted down to Giovanni, who stood waiting at the entrance to Silph Co.
"Bring it on, Eddie!"
Rhyperior and Aggron positioned themselves in front of Giovanni, battle-ready. They stood like sentinels, clearly having been waiting for Eddie to descend and resume the battle.
"Charizard, use Flare Blitz! Garchomp, use Dragon Rush!"
The moment Eddie finished speaking, Charizard's entire body erupted in blazing flames, while Garchomp became shrouded in a terrifying aura of draconic energy and killing intent.
Both Pokémon then plummeted from the sky like meteors.
Their target: Giovanni!
