Chapter 11 - 11. Viridian City

Viridian City is a beautiful city surrounded by greenery all year round. There are many towns in the vicinity, with Pallet Town being the most famous one.

Countless myths and legends have been tied to this place. Viridian City is often known as the city closest to nature, seamlessly blending high-tech conveniences with a commitment to avoiding pollution.

"When I arrived at Viridian City, the Pokédex started ringing. I thought it was alerting me to a nearby Pokémon, but it turned out to be just an introduction to the city?"

Eddie took out the Pokédex, which had been ringing, and looked at the introduction to Viridian City, feeling somewhat speechless.

"Haha, this seems accurate enough. The Pokédex even has a location feature. It's useful, especially in unexpected situations where you might need to know where you are."

Eddie put the Pokédex away, returned Charmander and Froakie to their Poké Balls, and walked into Viridian City.

Viridian City isn't far from Pallet Town, so many players had already arrived.

As Eddie had predicted, he got separated from other players in the wild area, but upon entering the public zones, he found himself in the same game field as others.

New players were strolling through the streets, admiring the world of Pokémon Generations.

"Wow, this city is so beautiful," someone exclaimed.

"A city surrounded by forests—there's nothing like this in real life," another added.

"It's amazing how even the scents are simulated in such detail. Pokémon Generations is truly incredible!"

"Yeah, the fresh air makes me feel so comfortable!"

Groups of players walked around, marveling at the environment and pondering if they could make this their virtual resting spot.

"Can anyone help a newbie? It's my first time playing this kind of game!"

"Where's the best place for beginners to train? My Pokémon fainted multiple times in the Viridian Forest."

As expected, novices and rookies were busy seeking tips and guidance from more experienced players.

Pokémon Generations was immensely popular—some players joined for the gameplay, others for the virtual reality experience, and some even to find solace in the immersive world. The game seemed to fulfill everyone's needs, a testament to its success.

Many players showcased their Starter Pokémon on the streets—some carrying them in their arms, others letting them ride on their shoulders. The random starter Pokémon granted to each player offered a unique opportunity, and releasing their Pokémon was a way to show them off.

The petite and cute Oddish,

The handsome and majestic Growlithe,

The round and adorable Poliwag,

The elegant and spirited Vulpix.

These players were fortunate to have obtained such popular and strong Pokémon with great potential.

However, not everyone was so lucky. Players with less desirable starters had their own struggles.

"Ugh, what's with this mouse-like Rattata? Its potential is only intermediate!"

"Check out this smelly Grimer—also intermediate potential."

"And this Magikarp? It has primary potential! Is there any hope for it?"

Hearing about the Magikarp made Eddie chuckle.

"It's tough to train a Magikarp with primary potential past level 19. It only evolves at level 20, so it's pretty much a lost cause," he thought with a smirk.

Watching these players, a slight smile crept onto Eddie's lips. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. After all, he now had two rare starters—Charmander and Froakie—with impressive potential.

If he were to release them here, it would undoubtedly create a sensation. Players would instantly recognize him as Morning Sun, the top-ranked player on both leaderboards.

However, Eddie had no intention of releasing his Pokémon just yet. He knew he was far from strong enough. He would reveal them confidently only after he had made significant progress.

"First, I'll stop by the Poké Mart to buy Pokémon-specific treats, then visit the Pokémon Center to store the extra Pokémon, and finally go find her," Eddie planned aloud.

Although he mentioned the Pokémon Center, he didn't actually intend to use it. With the power of Viridian at his disposal, he wasn't concerned about his Pokémon's injuries. However, he needed to teleport the newly captured Pokémon to Professor Oak's Laboratory for release.

Why did he carry so many Pokémon? They weren't meant to be his main team. He intended to capture stronger and more capable Pokémon later, using the current ones mainly to help complete his Pokédex.

Near a river in the Viridian Forest, just north of Viridian City:

"If I remember correctly, this should be the spot where the girl often comes to fish," Eddie murmured as he arrived. He had rushed here after finishing his tasks because he wanted to meet someone important—the character central to advancing the game's plot.

In Pokémon Generations, various plot-driven quests featured key characters known as "Pokédex owners," individuals with real Pokédexes who moved the storyline forward. Players referred to them with respect, as they often had hidden missions.

Eddie was looking for a girl, who was a future Pokédex owner and the centerpiece of a hidden mission.

"There she is, fishing just like the forums said she would be," Eddie muttered, spotting her. From a distance, a girl was sitting cross-legged by the river, holding her fishing rod. She seemed to be writing or sketching with her free hand.

As Eddie began walking toward her, the girl appeared to hook something big. The fishing rod bent under the strain, and the line grew taut. A black shadow thrashed in the water, clearly a strong creature far beyond what a child could handle.

The force of the struggle pushed the girl forward, her feet slipping along the ground. If she didn't let go of the rod soon, she would be dragged into the river.

Seeing this, Eddie quickly released Charmander and Froakie and ran toward her with the two Pokémon at his side.

The little girl held tightly to the rod, her small white hands reddened with strain. Tears of frustration welled in her eyes, but she refused to let go. The fishing rod was a cherished gift from her uncle, who had taught her to fish, and she was determined not to lose it just days after receiving it.

"Ugh... it hurts... but it must be a Pokémon!" she whimpered, clutching the rod with all her might, though her strength was fading.

"Charmander! Froakie!"

Just as she was about to be pulled into the river, Eddie's voice rang out. He grabbed her and lifted her off the ground, causing her hands to reflexively let go of the rod.

Charmander darted forward and grabbed the rod for her. With a powerful swing of its tail, it yanked a Pokémon out of the water—a Goldeen! The wild Goldeen, flailing in midair, retaliated with a Water Gun aimed at the girl.

However, Froakie sprang into action. With precision, it fired an icy beam that not only neutralized the Water Gun but also froze the Goldeen solid.

"Huh? It's already in a frozen state? Well, I won't let this opportunity go to waste," Eddie remarked.

He set the little girl down, pulled out a Poké Ball, and captured the immobilized Goldeen with ease. Holding the Poké Ball, he turned to the girl with a smile.

"Are you okay, little one?"
