Chapter 120 - Chapter 120 - The Hospital (5)

Ding!

You killed a Zombie! Gained +1 EXP and +1 Coin.

You killed a Zombie! Gained +1 EXP and +1 Coin.

You killed a Zomb..

The sound of the notification kept ringing on his ears, but Michael kept swinging his sword.

He brought the sword down in one heavy cross strike, splitting the first walker's skull and using the downward momentum to whip the blade across the second walker in one powerful upward slash!

Thud!

No matter how strong Michael is, the numbers weren't on his side and the walkers slowly pushed him onto a wall.

'Damn it! I hate to admit it, but Nolan was actually right this time. I think this was really a bad idea.' Michael thought while feeling frustrated. He initially predicted that there would only be around a couple of hundred walkers outside.

'You need to break through them fast! There's at least a thousand gathered here boss! I told you this was a bad idea!' Looking at the situation he's in, he was suddenly reminded by what Nolan was yelling at him earlier.

Tsk!

With a click of his tongue, Michael raised his leg and snapped it straight to deliver a powerful kick towards a walker and sent it slightly flying backwards towards its fellows and with several walkers falling down like dominoes.

'This would have been easier if I had taken the claymore with me.' Michael thought. It's not that he's not grateful with the sword in his hand, but because the extra length of the weapon makes a huge difference. A single sweep of the claymore sometimes allows Michael to behead three walkers in close proximity at the same time. Unlike a regular sword where he had to expend an extra effort and energy to kill the following walker.

Bam!

Michael delivered another powerful kick to a walker and created more space around him. He kept swinging his sword and made use of his legs while slowly breaking through the herd towards the truck where there's less of them.

So far, he had refrained from using his firearm as he wanted to minimize the attention towards him. Though this is only effective for a short duration since the guttural groans from the walkers are slowly attracting more walkers to his location.

Twack!

Michael was a little taken aback when the sword failed to slice through a walker's head and instead got stuck midway.

"Graah!"

Due to the sudden blunder, one of the nearest walkers greedily grabbed his left arm and latched its disgusting teeth onto it.

"Graah!" Instead of feeling pain, Michael was more annoyed as the veins on his temples bulged.

Michael slammed his boot onto the walker's chest, and used the leverage to wrench his blade free from its skull with a sickening schlick. Without a second of hesitation, he drove the steel through the eye-socket of the bastard currently gnashing at his forearm.

Schlick!

Then he quickly wrenched the blade from the skull with a violent tug and channeled the recoil into a sharp elbow strike that connected with a wet thud against the walker scurrying up behind him, the force of the pull resulted in a lethal blow that snapped the walker's head backwards and as the neck bones broke it with a crack.

The walkers are dangerously coming close to him as the space between them has become dangerously thin. Even in that situation, Michael did not show any signs of panic and instead rammed his left shoulder onto another walker, earning him a slight breathing space. He quickly glanced towards the direction of their truck and saw that he wasn't too far away now.

"You foul smelling bastards, DIE!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Michael finally drew his pistol and let loose, the first shot was a deafening crack that echoed through the surroundings. He didn't just blindly fire; he worked the trigger in a calculated, rhythmic tally, dropping walkers as fast as he could find their heads in his sights.

Ratatata!

Michael's third shot had barely echoed when a thunderous rhythm joined in from above. He looked up and saw Daryl on a balcony, the rifle in his hands spitting lead into the crowd of walkers, the bullets chewing through the walkers Michael couldn't reach. Daryl had been perched there the entire time, watching him and waiting for the right time to help him.

"Go!" Daryl yelled at him and Michael quickly took this chance while the walkers were more drawn towards the sound of gunfire and bolted towards the truck. He barrelled through the undead crowd while wildly swinging his sword with precision and scrambled into the cab just as the first grey fingers began to scrape against the door.

Michael did not waste any second and grabbed something from the back seat. He kicked the door open and hauled the beast out.

"Happy New Year, motherf&ckers!"

Thump. Thump. Thump. The rounds arched into the thick of the walker herd. A heartbeat later, the world around them erupted with explosions! The explosion didn't just simply kill the walkers, they turned the ones in the center into a watermelon like mess.

While Michael and Daryl are cleaning up the mess outside, Dawn and her colleagues were watching the scene below from a balcony on the upper floors with horrified and worried looks on their faces.

"They had something like that all along?" The tall dark skinned officer chuckled with nervousness while watching the scene below them.

Dawn was just as shocked as the others, but she became more concerned with one thing.

'Are they doing this deliberately? Don't they realize the subsequent troubles we'd face after what they did today?'

"Crazy bastards!" She cursed and gripped the railings tightly in anger.

After today, other survivors hiding in the city would certainly flock to their location, either out of curiosity or the vain hope that it was the military coming to rescue them. Dawn can already imagine the trouble they'd face in the coming days.

"It seems we don't have any choice but to accept the trade." Officer Shepherd remarked. It wasn't only her, but everyone realized that Michael and the others indeed came with good intentions. They knew they would not survive even an hour if they really came with malicious intent.

"So this is kind of a show of power huh." said Officer Licari, the fair skinned robust bald officer.

"You only saw half of it. Their leader, that one called Michael. He's no ordinary human." Shepherd said while slightly shaking her head. They saw the fear in her eyes, and it made even Dawn curious about what she saw.

"That stack of rotters near that wall? It was all his doing." Shepherd added.

"Impossible, are you saying he had been down there the entire time and not once did the rotters overwhelm him with their numbers?" They were shocked to hear that, but they found it more unbelievable since even five walkers in close proximity is already overwhelming even for them, much less from tens of walkers crowding around you.

"Think what you want, but I saw what I saw. I suggest we evaluate this trade with them properly. We can't afford to mess with these kinds of people." Shepherd just shook her head and turned her eyes to Dawn.

She had realized the horror of the man called Michael. He is a threat, but that power and strength she had witnessed is exactly what makes him reliable in her eyes. A strength that offers security to people looking for hope such as her in this broken world.

'I wonder if there's any way to make him join us instead?' She thought, and then an idea quickly hit her while watching the scene below them.

""Alliance.""

Dawn and Shepherd quickly looked at each other following what they said.

Dawn stared at her for a moment before addressing her colleagues. "We'll go with the trade properly. Then suggest an alliance between our groups."

"An alliance? Do we need to go that far? I admit that they are in possession of some nasty toys, but there's more of us than them. Let's just go with the initial plan and kill them." An officer with a nameplate, O'Donnel, quickly voiced his opposition to the idea.

Shepherd eyed him sharply and was the one to rebuke him. "Are you right in the head? You've already seen that they are in possession of a high caliber weapon. To add, also armed with standard rifles and you want to make an enemy out of them? Are you insinuating that you want to have a shoot out with them and with what? Your sidearm? Are you hearing yourself, Sergeant? You're gonna get us killed with that kind of thinking"

"Grr.." O'Donnel stared at her for a moment and looked away with a displeased groan.

'Good thing this happened or these idiots would have really gone with the original plan.' Shepherd thought and gave Dawn a nod. She does not like her ideas one bit, but because everyone still feels the importance of rank, she could only speak out against it from time to time to keep them from going out of line.

Dawn stared at her with intensity in her eyes for a moment. "Alright, I don't want to admit it, but Shepherd is right. We'll have to scrap the original plan. It seems my hunch was right all along."

Then she slightly leaned over the railings and watched Michael load more rounds onto the launcher through a pair of binoculars. "I'm certain these people must have raided a military camp and possibly a base before."

"Like Fort Benning?"

"It's possible, but I'm thinking..military outpost instead."

While Dawn and her colleagues begin discussing their plans going forward with the noise of explosions going off behind them, there's actually someone just outside the door eavesdropping on them.

"It seems they initially had some bad intentions towards us before. I guess Michael is right again this time." The figure smiled before sneakily walking away and disappearing into the stairwell. Not even a second later, one of the officers came out of the room and looked around for a moment before going back inside and closing the door behind him.

Not long after though, another mysterious figure in a white robe came out from one of the rooms and sneakily went up to the eighth floor after staring at the room the officers were in for a couple of seconds.
