The bedroom was dim, with only the small lamp beside the bed giving off a soft light.
The television was on, and the sound of a movie filled the room. Yet neither Jamal nor Dawn paid any attention to it.
Since they had already had dinner, Jamal had ordered dessert for their date. A dispatch rider had brought it to the house a few minutes earlier, and now two plates of chocolate cake sat on the small table beside the bed. There were also two glasses of grape juice.
Dawn sat against the headboard with her legs stretched out on the bed. Jamal sat beside her, with one arm resting behind her shoulders.
For a while, they said nothing. They ate their cake and enjoyed being close to each other.
Then Jamal turned to her.
"I stopped by the spa to see Adam on my way back from the office."
Dawn stopped with her fork halfway to her mouth. "You did what?"
Jamal smiled at her surprise. "I went to see Adam."
