Jax clenched his jaw. "You're safe there," he said softly into the phone. "That place is soundproof and reinforced. No one can get in unless you open the door for them. You just need to close it. But if you don't feel safe enough, you can go down the hallway. You'll see a garage at the end of it. Your car is parked in there…"
"My car? You mean my car has been here…"
"Focus, love," Jax cut her off in an urgent tone. "The garage opens to a different route from the main house. Take your car and leave. Or you can take mine. Keep your phone with you. I'll handle the situation and come get you."
Mari's voice wavered. "If you say it's safe here, I'll take your word for it and wait here for you. But I'll hang up now. I feel too anxious to stay on the phone. I'll call you if anything comes up."
Before Jax could point out that it was best to stay on the phone if she was feeling very anxious, she hung up the call.
