Chapter 16 - Kill it... not me...

"Wryyyyyyyyyyyy"

A shriek packed so much with fear, yet packed with so much hatred. It was a roar that would instill fear in all that heard it. Even the birds from afar flew away from his loud shriek. Though, apart from their wings, those beings didn't seem to be birds at all. They were likely monsters, just like the wolves and the monster and the giant.

They were all monsters. They were unfamiliar beings in a world that was just as unfamiliar.

And as unfamiliar as being in that place was, it was also unfortunate. Such was what Yohan, the center of that roar would say.

He roared fiercely. Not just out of fear, but also out of hatred. Hatred for that wolf that stood in front of him.

He didn't want to die.

That's why he roared.

He didn't want to be scared.

That's why he roared.

He wanted the wolf to be scared.

That's why he roared.

He wanted that wolf to die.

That's why he roared.

And so he roared. Just once, and it was enough.

So he wouldn't die. It was enough.

So he wouldn't be sacred. It was enough.

So that wolf would be scared. It was enough.

So that wolf would die. It was enough.

Rustle...

And so, the wolf stood in front of him, trembling at his screams, and could only stare as it was unknowingly sentenced to death

Grhhh! Arf! Arf! Hk! Grrr--Aah!

The cries of the wolf could be soon heard after that. When it fought back, it would immediately be brought down by an attack. Every moment, it was either bitten or clawed. Every moment, it could do nothing but screech in pain.

It was hopeless. When it dodged to the right, it would be hit from the right. If it dodged to the left, it would be hit from the left. If it dodged backward, it would be hit from behind. And well... it was too scared to jump forward.

It didn't matter where it went or what it did. It would be bitten and slashed over and over again. It would be bitten and slashed until it died, but at the hands of what?

Arf! Hrk!

The barks of its attackers far exceeded its own screams of pain. Its attackers continued on and on, waving their black fur as their black claws dug deep into its skin. It's attackers continued on and on as their fangs continued to bite into its skin. Blood poured everywhere as if they stomped on countless tomatoes.

Amidst all the red, those golden eyes looked deep into the wolf's eyes as they attacked it mercilessly. Their eyes were of the same gold color. Their fur was of the same shade of black. They were the same. Yet, they continued to attack the wolf. Why would its comrades betray it like that?

Why was it doomed to die at the hands of its own friends? Was its death truly at the hands of its comrades?

Grrgh-- Sniff.

That smell. That putrid smell. It spread around the air and invaded everyone's nose. The smell was the cause of it all. No, it was the person who carried that smell at fault.

So with that, the wolf looked at the person who carried who carried the worst stench among them. Just as its gaze was pointed at that person, that person pointed his finger back to the wolf.

That person... why was that person the cause of the wolf's death? Why was it sentenced to death by that person?

'Wryyyyyyyyyyy!'

Why did the wolf hear that cry from someone who wasn't its master?

Splat!

All of its blood had spurted all over. New wounds had formed on its body, courtesy of its comrades. One would think that the person was covered in it, but although it was already covered in blood, not one drop of it belonged to the dying wolf.

The wolf knew who the blood belonged to. But the wolf deemed it impossible.

Splat!

More and more wounds appeared. It's completely black fur was now dyed in red. It was really going to die. Hence why it lost its balance.

Slowly but surely, its bodily functions stopped working. As blood continued to seep out of the wolf, so did its energy. It would eventually run put of energy and inevitably stop operating... forever.

Slowly, a bit surely, the wolf came to terms with its fate. It no longer needed to wonder why it was going to die or why it was going to die at its comrades or whose fault it was.

In its final moments, it could only stare at the boy who had sentenced him to death, still pointed at the wolf. Just like the wolf, that person was drenched in blood. It wasn't the wolf's blood, but considering who's blood it was, the wolf would've preferred it instead.

It understood the boy having killed the wolf, but why did that boy kill--

Chomp!

Deep into its neck, the wolf was bitten down by another by another wolf. A wolf it was familiar with its whole life. It's entire throat was removed from its body all in one chomp. How unfortunate.

How unfortunate that it would soon stop breathing. How unfortunate that blood would stop flowing in its body. How unfortunate that it's heart would stop beating. How unfortunate that its feet would stop moving. How unfortunate that it's eyes would stop seeing. How unfortunate that it's mind would stop thinking.

It was unfortunate that it would die. But what was more sad was that it would die without protecting its ma--

Chomp!

Another bite. Where it was, the wolf would never know.

After all, it was long dead before it could feel it.
