Byakuya smiled.
"Alright..."
Eren reluctantly nodded, then started wolfing down his food as fast as he could.
"Eren, don't eat so fast!"
As expected, Carla scolded him anyway.
Watching him, Carla sighed softly. Ever since discovering the truth about the world beyond the Walls, her worry for Eren had only grown deeper. She still didn't want him joining the Survey Corps—life outside was far too dangerous. But her husband thought differently: if Eren had chosen this path, he should be allowed to pursue it.

Mikasa, Carla, and Grisha were just as puzzled. The case certainly looked fancy and unique, but could it really be used as a weapon?
"It's this one. Place your hand here" Byakuya instructed, guiding Eren through the process.
These briefcase-style quinques required a user to register them—essentially a biological recognition system, like fingerprint ID.
Once registered, Eren would be able to access it with just his touch.
Even though the quinque tech came from the Tokyo Ghoul world and Eren was from the Titan world, both were human—so biometric recognition worked just fine.
Following Byakuya's instructions, Eren placed his hand on the handle.
The quinque registered him immediately and unlocked.
What happened next shattered their expectations.
The box really did turn into a weapon.
Byakuya had chosen a feather-type quinque for Eren — capable of launching explosive projectiles formed from kagune cells. It took the form of a wrist-mounted cannon.
Byakuya helped Eren fasten it to his arm.
"Let's head somewhere open so you can try it out."
Soon, they were on top of the Wall.
Byakuya pointed down at a nearby 15-meter Pure Titan—large, slow, and perfect for target practice.
"Eren, try aiming at that Titan. When you're ready—fire."
"Got it!"
Eren aimed the cannon, his hands trembling slightly.
Boom!
His first shot went wide, hitting the Titan's right leg—but the quinque's power was immense, and the blast crippled the Titan's lower half entirely.
The creature collapsed, crawling forward with its arms.
Eren adjusted his aim and fired again.
This time, he hit closer to the nape. It struck the back of the head, but with a quinque, that was more than enough.
The Titan stopped regenerating.
It was dead.
Eren's heart raced. He didn't feel happy—just overwhelmed.
After all, the Titans outside the Walls — Pure Titans, Abnormals — they were once his own people. Eldians, transformed into monsters.
But despite that, they were still threats. Still enemies.
Eren had always believed he needed the power to protect those he loved—Mikasa, Armin, his parents.
And now... he finally had it.
"You can start training with this one. I'll give you even stronger weapons in the future" Byakuya said calmly.
"Really?!" Eren's eyes widened, nodding eagerly.
He couldn't believe this wasn't even the strongest weapon yet.
How powerful could the others be?
"Just make sure to retract it into the case when not in use. And never use it on civilians. Don't hurt others without reason" Byakuya added, giving him a warning.
He trusted Eren, but a reminder never hurt.

After that, Byakuya distributed the remaining B-rated quinques to people he trusted — Mikasa, Armin, Grisha, Carla, Commander Erwin, and Captain Levi.
As for A and S-rated quinques, he would wait. Let them master the B first.
