Enzo's POV
I couldn't sleep, no surprise there. I hadn't really expected to, not with the tension sitting heavy in my chest like a lead weight, refusing to budge. Alaric had slipped out hours ago without a word, but I knew where he went. I knew it the moment I blinked awake to an empty bed and felt that distinct hollowness in the room, like the air itself was holding its breath.
He went to see my father.
And he didn't take me with him.
Part of me had hoped he would. That I could stand there and watch as he delivered every ounce of fury my father deserved. That I'd get to see someone anyone hold that man accountable for the damage he caused. But the bigger part of me, the one still scared even after all this time, knew Alaric going alone was safer, not for my father but for me.
