Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Protection

Noid had never seen the council member the man was talking about, but to have a modified human as a protector, she was certainly an important figure for humanity. He quickly found an elderly woman being protected by a squad of armored soldiers.

They were fighting a group of modified fanatics.

Five complete modified fanatics and over twenty incomplete modified fanatics were surrounding and killing ten soldiers in armored suits. The soldiers were almost wiped out, with only a few painfully holding on.

One fanatic was about to crush a soldier's head when its vision suddenly inverted. It saw that its perspective was a headless body still twitching before it fell to the ground. It had been decapitated so quickly it didn't even have time to react.

Noid, in his black armor, charged with a terrifying aura into the middle of the incomplete modified fanatics. The blades in his two hands swung continuously, and the flesh and limbs of the fanatics fell like rain. Wearing the A.T.A Power Armor and having injected a dose of the madness drug was enough for him to easily kill these incomplete modified fanatics, whose stats were a mere 1.2 and 1.3.

"Madam council member, I'm here to take you to safety."

"Man in black, how did you..."

She didn't get to finish her sentence before the complete modified fanatics came charging toward them. Unlike the previous fanatics, these were opponents he had to be careful with.

A mat flew from his body to the council member. She anxiously asked.

"Man in black, where's the Red Guardian? Why are you here?"

"He said he was beyond saving. He asked me to come and get you to a safe place."

Noid explained the final words of the red-armored soldier.

Upon hearing this, her eyes became red-rimmed, and her hands turned white and bled from clenching them too tightly. It seemed that the relationship between her and the soldier was not just a simple one between a protector and a protectee.

But no matter how painful it was, she had to be in control of the situation and make the most accurate decision.

"How do you plan to get me out of here? With this mat?"

"Yes? Because it can fly."

Completely defying the laws of physics, the mat swirled in the air and then landed at the council member's feet. Her face showed surprise for a fleeting moment.

"How is this... even possible..."

But Noid didn't have time to answer. The fanatics had already launched a fierce attack on him. She asked no more questions and sat on the mat, still clutching the alloy briefcase.

The flying carpet shot away, carrying the council member directly toward Rorgh city. Once there, she would be safe.

Two doses of the madness drug were injected into his body, boosting his strength to 1.3. He didn't know how long the Red Guardian could hold on, but Noid knew he needed to quickly deal with all twenty-five of these fanatics.

The two blades became two sharp lines. Black paralyzing bombs were thrown out and scattered on the ground, creating a paralyzing electromagnetic field. As soon as the modified fanatics were stiffened, his blades would sweep in, like a cold grim reaper harvesting their lives.

Noid focused on killing the weaker ones first to prevent them from disrupting the next battle. He was like a ghost, moving non-stop among the followers. Each time he passed, a head would fall. Because his strikes weren't very clean, the heads he cut off were often not complete.

The complete modified fanatics wanted to kill or at least stop him, but Noid always avoided a full-on fight, avoiding being surrounded and only focusing on killing the weaker ones.

They wanted to curse Noid with the most vulgar words, but this was a battle. Cursing would only make themselves useless and helpless. For fanatics, they especially disliked this feeling.

They couldn't do anything to Noid, so they decided to kill the soldiers over there, just as Noid was killing the incomplete modified fanatics. In response, a cluster of bombs was thrown in front of them, along with a chilling sound from his mask.

"Come here."

The fanatics turned their heads, annoyance and apprehension showing when they saw the black things he was holding. These bombs were so annoying. They made them weaker and slower. This allowed the man in black, who was only a little stronger than them, to torment them to this extent.

All five complete modified fanatics stopped for a moment, then split into five directions to surround and kill Noid. He didn't stay still either. He actively charged to attack the closest one.

The soldiers were not idle either. Five or six armored soldiers fighting against nearly ten incomplete modified fanatics was a lopsided battle, but the paralyzing bombs Noid had thrown earlier had greatly reduced their strength in a large area, so the two sides were fighting to a stalemate. In fact, the military side, with its equipment advantage, was gradually gaining the upper hand.

These soldiers would have been slaughtered in an instant if they had faced the bishop, but when facing the mutated fanatics of the Doom Cult, they could unleash their full power.

And Noid, by using a strategy of trading injury for injury, successfully cut off half the head of one fanatic, but the attacks from the others around him made him grit his teeth in pain. Continuing to struggle with the four fanatics, he quietly injected a syringe into himself.

It was an adrenaline shot. His brain was stimulated, and the pain in his body was suppressed. Only raw power flowed through his flesh and blood, through his muscles, and even into his nervous system.

"Come... on!"

Meanwhile, the elderly woman was riding the flying carpet in the air. If it were a normal day, she would have been studying how this thing worked and thinking about how it could help humanity. But right now, she wasn't in the mood. She was holding back her tears even though she was alone in the vast, windy sky.

Very few people knew that the Red Guardian and she were more than just a protector and a superior. That person was her son.

As the son of a Supreme Council member, even in this chaotic era of humanity and monsters, he could have lived a life of comfort, enjoying the safety and prosperity behind the walls of Lysandra. But he had witnessed his mother's regret and torment over the Mars expedition all those years ago.

In a family of only two, mother and son, the image of his mother in his eyes had always been of an independent and strong woman. The first time he saw his mother sobbing while holding a photo of his father, he knew he had to do something.

His mother became a member of the Supreme Council, and he became an outstanding young soldier. He secretly participated in the modified human project. By the time she found out, he was already wearing a crimson armored suit, becoming a Guardian.

She was angry. She hit him, she scolded him, she blamed him, saying that a mother just didn't want her son to sacrifice himself like his father, because his father was also a soldier who had sacrificed himself to save others. She didn't want to lose her last remaining family member.

But the son's unwavering determination made the mother accept it. Becoming her personal protector, he had saved her many times.

During that time, the Supreme Council had just been established. Although it had truly become the highest leadership body for all of humanity, the remnants of many collapsed governments still held a lot of power. Instead of uniting to fight the dooms and rebuild the world, those people were obsessed with a power struggle to become the leader.

The members of the Supreme Council were at the center of this vortex. Assassination, poisoning, false accusations, threats... too many methods were used to get the old world's rulers to put their own people on the council, turning the council into a puppet to be controlled. If the modified human technology hadn't been so tightly held by this side, humanity would probably still be in internal strife, and the dooms would have already pushed them to the brink.

With the terrifying power of modified humans, who could fight one against a thousand, one against ten thousand, the parasites were removed along with their factions. Only then could humanity unite, rebuild society, and focus on fighting the dooms.

Every important member having a Red Guardian for protection became an unchangeable rule, even after the internal strife was suppressed for many years.
