Chapter 96 - Chapter 96

The Fire Nation has officially announced the end of the Hundred Year War from their side.

They even claimed that they dethroned Fire Lord Ozai and gave the throne to his daughter.

The previous Fire Lord took all the responsibility, and the rest of the counselors and higher-ups supported that decision.

No one knew if they had thought it through deeply or decided after a rush of blood to the brain, boosted by some push-ups.

But other than that, everyone was happy.

The Fire Nation decided to pay back money to those damaged by the war, and no one objected. Some people's hatred toward the Fire Nation vanished overnight after receiving the first payment.

It was even a higher payment than what they had received from their own nations.

Some would say in the future that they never wished the Fire Nation had left.

But that's only because of the paycheck.

The man they should thank for the money would soon be forgotten and regarded as a legend, as rumors about his powers were too absurd to believe—unless you had seen him with your own eyes.

The man in question didn't want their attention twenty-four hours, seven days a week, so he had just gotten a plot of land in the southeast of the continent and decided to follow his perfect life plan. He had already built his house and was soon trying to get his business started.

Ryuk was sitting on top of his new house, a villa three stories high. It hadn't taken much effort to build since he knew many earthbenders, and Toph was the best among them. Not to mention he had picked up some building skills thanks to his relationship with Wang and his access to the library.

Currently, he was with his officially two fiancées.

A few months had already passed, and he was starting to get used to the peace.

"Do we really have to stay here?" Toph asked, looking at the sky as if she was bored. "Just to watch a stupid comet passing by?"

"A few months ago, that comet was a nightmare to some people," Katara commented.

"Yeah, she's right." Ryuk opened a bottle of alcohol he had brewed and took a sip.

The night sky had turned bright red as a large meteor passed. It was nice to know that, despite all the Firebenders getting a massive power boost—enough to guarantee one of them the power to burn a town with one swing—they couldn't use this power for evil.

"You always take her side," Toph crossed her arms and pouted.

"It's not about taking sides," Ryuk replied. "It's about being true to the facts and not lying to oneself."

"You should stop going to Wang's library. He's turning you into a bookworm," she teased.

"Anyway, I'm going to enjoy watching the meteor," Ryuk said, looking at the sky.

"What's so fun about it?" Toph asked.

"The tears behind it," Ryuk smiled widely. "Someone's biting their nails, thinking they could have become great conquerors, soldiers, or politicians. But because I'm here, they're missing this great opportunity."

"Wish you had that sadistic side in bed," she muttered.

Ryuk lowered his eyes and pressed his face against Toph's.

She blushed. "What!"

"You like that, don't you?" He smirked.

"Hey! I didn't mean it that way!" Toph blushed even harder.

Katara was chuckling.

"We're going to have so much fun," Ryuk said, missing the last moments of the meteor.

"You're unbelievable." Toph stood up and tried to walk away, only to get a spank on the bottom as she escaped.

Once she was gone, Ryuk laughed and said, "It's so fun to see her get frustrated."

"Yeah, she's the one who likes to tease too much."

"Anyway… what are your plans now?" Katara asked. "We should get back to the Pole now."

"And then what? Fish, watch over the ice, wait for the sun to set and shine every six months? I don't know. I think I'm staying here and taking care of my business."

"But what about my grandma?" she asked.

"We can visit," Ryuk replied, "but not stay too long."

Katara kissed Ryuk's cheek and looked at the sky with him.

Ryuk sighed.

Now that he had finished bringing peace and freedom to the rest of the world, he could enjoy his long, slow life.

But it seemed that living like a king—with two women and one mistress—came with quite a workload.

For the last month, he had been dealing with Toph's troubles and her worries about her parents.

Apparently, they had been fine all along. They had sent some bounty hunters to look after her and bring her home, but those bounty hunters had taken the money and disappeared. A big part of that was thanks to Ryuk's reputation for being too cruel to bounty hunters who came after him. So no one dared to look for Toph, knowing she was traveling with him.

And there was also the matter of everyone being surprised to see her regain her sight again.

After that, Ryuk had opened his restaurant, but there weren't many clients—just travelers who came by sea. There were some locals, but not many.

The earnings weren't much, but it was honest work.

And Ryuk was satisfied.

'And lastly, Azula invited me today. I believe she'll try to fight me using Sozin's comet in the sky. I mean, she's already very strong, second strongest after me. During the comet, I might not survive her lightning if she catches me off guard.'

'Man, my relationship with her is quite unpredictable. I know she loves sex and could have killed me in my sleep, but still, I wouldn't go today.'

Ryuk crossed one leg over the other, thinking about his mistress.

'She's been trying to get pregnant from me. Well, good luck with that. I'll decide when,' Ryuk thought.

After the sky cleared and grew dark again, Ryuk was about to close up and go to bed.

But he stopped when Toph returned, pointing behind her.

"There are some envoys from far away. Judging by their lip movements, they seem to have found the Avatar. The latter is looking for you," she said.

"Oh, I wasn't paying attention." Ryuk rubbed his ear. Lately, he had been trying to control his aqua sense so it wouldn't bother him. Do you know how annoying it is to have a very distant hearing sense while living near the ocean? You hear the fish moving, the thousands of waves hitting repeatedly. But luckily, he had trained himself to suppress that ability at will.

"Wait!" Ryuk opened his eyes wide and stopped rubbing his ears. "That motherfucker dares to wake up now!"
