Chapter 480 - The Half-Blood Prince

…..

[LIE Studios | Creative Development Suite | 9:00 AM]

The table in the center of the third floor development room was buried under storyboards, floor plans, and thick, leather bound script binders.

Outside the expansive floor to ceiling windows, the Burbank sun was just burning off the morning haze, but inside, the room was locked in the atmospheric gloom of sixteenth century gothic architecture.

Lena Crawford sat with her reading glasses perched on her nose, turning the final page of the 210 page master script.

Beside her sat Simon Lombardozzi, reviewing production schedules on his tablet, while Zack adjusted color-grading monitors displaying early visual look-books.

Lena closed the binder, and she looked across the table at Regal Seraphsail.

"I knew from the book already…. But you completely ripped out the teenage soap opera." Lena said, her tone a mixture of profound relief and artistic awe.

Regal set hiscoffe mug down. "We have always been true to the books, and we will be."

"This is honestly as strange as ever. I assumed you might budge a little and add some romantic fluff to appease the younger demographic." Lena remarked, running a hand through her hair with a dry laugh. "I am still baffled by how you manage to write books and direct films at the same time, but I am glad you're the one handling them. It makes directing this film much more interesting for me personally."

"I would like to give more credit to the kids themselves here. I am only doing this because I believe the kids who started reading Philosopher's Stone in 2010 are way mature today." Regal replied, leaning forward against the table. "They don't want childish escapism anymore after surviving the Department of Mysteries in Order of the Phoenix and watching Sirius Black fall through the veil. Now they're ready to see the real cost of the war that's coming."

Simon tapped his stylus against the edge of his tablet. "The trades have been hounding our press department non stop since the box office closed on 'Order of the Phoenix'. $1.4 billion worldwide gross. Lena's debut in blockbuster fantasy established her as one of the most bankable directors in the industry. I believe it's a very good time to drop this update."

"Then let's make sure the foundation is airtight." Regal said, turning toward the projection screen.

On the main digital wall, Regal pulled up the core structural breakdown of [Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince].

Unlike typical Hollywood adaptations that chopped up source material to chase spectacle, Regal's locked script was designed with architectural precision.

"The first sequence sets the moral spine of the film." Regal explained, tapping the storyboard displaying the familiar, sterile cul-de-sac of Number 4 Privet Drive–

"Open in complete silence under the summer heat of Surrey, with Harry sitting alone in his darkened room, surrounded by newspaper clippings of Death Eater attacks, and then Albus Dumbledore arrives on foot."

He pointed to the next storyboard illustration.

"How about Ross Oakley's Dumbledore walking into the Dursleys' living room, summoning the floating mead glasses, and directly confronting Vernon and Petunia over sixteen years of abuse? It immediately reestablishes Dumbledore's imposing presence, validates everything Harry has endured, and reminds the audience that even in his twilight years, Dumbledore is still an absolute force of nature."

"Ross is going to eat that scene alive." Lena noted with a sharp smile. "He's been working with vocal coaches to bring a raspy, dying cadence to his voice that still commands authority."

"And we can also show that the blackened hand immediately." Lena added, her eyes narrowing. "The audience will witness the cracked, rotting flesh of the ring curse in high contrast 3D during the opening ten minutes. They must understand from the very beginning that Dumbledore is operating on borrowed time."

Regal nodded his head as he swiped the monitor to reveal the visual design for the memory sequences.

Zack leaned forward, his eyes bright. "How many memory dives are we locking into the shooting schedule?"

"Four full sequence dives." Regal confirmed.

The House of Gaunt: The squalor, the arrogance, and the tragic, twisted desperation of Merope Gaunt ensnaring Tom Riddle Sr. with amortentia.

Wool's Orphanage: Young Tom Riddle, cold and terrifyingly articulate, cornered by Dumbledore in the barren room with the wardrobe burning in silent flames.

Hepzibah Smith & Borgin and Burkes: Tom Riddle as a charming young adult in his twenties, working as an antiquities collector, smiling politely while subtly eyeing the Hufflepuff Cup and Slytherin Locket before her mysterious poisoning.

Horace Slughorn's Tampered Memory vs. The Truth: The chilling fireside conversation regarding seven Horcruxes.

"If you don't show the audience why Tom Riddle values these specific artifacts, the entire Horcrux hunt in the final films feels like random treasure hunting." Regal stated–

"The audience needs to see that Voldemort chose royal relics because of his pathological narcissism. It turns the final two movies into an intellectual detective story instead of just wand duels."

"Now, the cuts." Lena said, leaning over the page notes. "You completely removed the burning of the Burrow."

"Because it's a plot hole that shatters the logic of the world." Regal said flatly. "The Burrow is the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix, protected by ancient fidelius charms and Ministry enchantments.

"Having three Death Eaters casually stroll through the wheat field, burn the house down at Christmas without killing anyone, and then flee without the Order suffering any structural consequences is pure filler action meant to wake up an audience."

"And the romance?" Regal ended with a question.

"Hm…" Lena answered. "I think it's better to treat the emotional development of the trio similar to the book?"

Regal nodded his head as he pulled up the character profile for Draco Malfoy.

"The heart of The Half-Blood Prince should be parallel character study." Regal emphasized. "While Harry is discovering the darkness of Voldemort's past, Draco Malfoy is being crushed beneath Voldemort's boot in the present."

The screen displayed atmospheric lighting concepts for the Room of Requirement: towering monoliths of forgotten junk, draped in cobwebs, illuminated by thin shafts of dust-mottled moonlight.

"Draco is not a smug schoolyard bully anymore." Regal continued. "He is a child trapped in a suicide mission under threat of his family's execution. So we should show the physical toll, and the psychological breakdown in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. When Harry hits him with Sectumsempra, it should feel like a horrific, bloody tragedy where Harry realizes he crossed a line he can never walk back from."

Lena exhaled slowly, her eyes reflecting the blue glow of the visual boards. "That gives the entire climax on the Astronomy Tower more emotional weight. When Draco lowers his wand because he can't bring himself to kill Dumbledore, the audience will weep for him instead of cheering."

"That…" Regal said quietly. "...is why we make movies."

"What about Horace Slughorn?" Simon asked, flipping open the talent submission folder. "Our casting calls in London brought in twenty top tier British veterans."

"We need someone who can embody genial, high society charm while carrying a suffocating core of shame." Regal replied thoughtfully. "Slughorn is a man who loved collecting brilliance, but whose vanity accidentally handed the Dark Lord the key to immortality. His scene with Harry, remembering the transfigured lily-petal fish given to him by Lily Potter, must be the emotional soul of the third act."

"We have two veteran West End stage legends screen testing on Stage 3 next Thursday." Simon noted, logging the dates. "Both have agreed to the intensive five-month London and Scotland shoot schedule."

"And the trio?" Regal asked.

"Daniel, Rupert, and Lily just wrapped their preliminary table reads." Lena answered with a warm smile.

"They're nineteen and twenty now." Regal nodded, reminiscently.

"They are…"

"The Japanese and European hardcover runs of The Half-Blood Prince are already going into their fourth reprint batch." Simon reported, her eyes gleaming with pride. "Every major bookstore chain in the Western hemisphere is begging for the announcement of the film's release date so they can coordinate promotional window displays."

"We won't make them wait long." Regal said. "Lock principal photography for late autumn, and the film drops worldwide in the prime summer corridor."

Simon stood up, clutching his tablet. "I will draft the official studio announcement."

Within thirty minutes, the official press release from LIE Studios went live across all global wire services and entertainment desks:
