Chapter 1 - Thunderstorm

There exists a very famous saying, which goes like

— 'everything happens for a reason'

Well, is that really true though?

If it is then, the truth would probably be like, every being in the universe exists to perform a specific task, a duty, a purpose. And the end of his journey is marked by a phenomena? force of nature? Or a divine power of some kind? It's very difficult to describe it like that, actually.

The one who comes for us all, the one who does not differentiate between rich or poor, cruel or kind, tall or short, human or animal. The one and only truth...

...Death

Not to mention there are always questions like, is there a reason life exists? It seems like nothing will change if we were to be wiped out from the face of earth tomorrow.

Who makes decisions of life and death of all living beings?

Are we really independent to do anything with our lives? And most important question of all - what happens when someone refuses to give up on his life?

"When someone refuses to die"

During simultaneous creation and destruction of countless universes —What is Consciousness? What is the purpose of life? What can be the worth of life? What do we intend to gain by living?

These were the questions most of the developed civilizations were looking for an answer to. Countless universes, galaxies in the cosmic ocean, were moving ahead steadily with the flow of time.

Wrapped around the space-time fabric, the very reality of existence was moving at the right pace.

Until some beings which belonged to one of these countless civilizations, managed to deceive the greater powers for a certain period of time.

And when these beings, who previously had existence smaller than sub particles of an atom in the vast infinitely expanding cosmos —managed to emerge as a major cause of disturbance along it.

They massacred most of the supreme powers, along countless universes striving for a far greater power.

The core of their newly acquired strength was, however, the phenomena, people referred to as 'immortality'.

Mortals weren't supposed to wield that kind of power nor were they supposed to kill someone they used to worship.

Their very presence in the cosmos was a threat to reality itself. Therefore they could neither be allowed to wander freely nor to do as they please.

Known to many worlds and universes by countless names —deviations, variables or the transcendent souls, which shook the very core of cosmic existence.

[ Life ends but the curse remembers ]

The rainy monsoons, the trees were covered with eternal greenery. The eye pleasing colour of nature, like rainwater washing away the accumulated dirt on nature itself.

It was indeed a rainy day, sky covered with black and gray clouds, among which long irregular trails of lightning were to be seen, occasionally.

A child was born to a family, considered as nobles, in a rather small town of The Empire. A peaceful, remote, countryside place. Far ...far from the capital city of Crownspire.

The unnamed town was located on the outskirts of the city Eldoria.

Husband and wife: Lady Sophia, a beautiful woman with dark hair, pearl- white skin and red, ruby eyes in her mid twenties and Lord Valerius, a bright young man with ashen blonde hair, black eyes and a year or so older than his wife— marked a new start of their new lives that day.

When the child first opened his eyes in this world he began to cry aloud, as though trying to compete with the raging thunderstorm outside.

Upon hearing the first cries of his newborn, Lord Valerius was overjoyed with happiness.

His eyes began tearing up as he picked up his son in the arms. With the running tears, he looked at his wife with a smile. A smile of satisfaction.

Lord Valerius sat closer to lady Sophia, hugging her with one arm and holding his newborn with the other. Overjoyed he said, "our little family is now complete".

Looking at her he smiled,"thank you my dear, ...I feel like the happiest person in the world today"

Holding her son in her arms Lady Sophia glanced at her husband, smiled, and said in her sweet voice with a pleasant tone, "he looks just like you."

"So, Mr. Father?" She said, breaking the pleasant silence, "have you decided on a name for our boy yet?"

"Well what do you know" he replied with a proud tone,

"I was so excited that I've spent a whole month thinking about what we might name our child." As his smile grew wider and chest puffed, "ahm... What I am trying to say here is ...yes, I have a name."

"is that so?" Lady Sophia giggled, "then please let me know already."

"Our son is born to achieve greatness so his name shall be, Augustus", said his father proudly naming him.

"Augustus, what a fine name ...It suits him well" the lady replied in agreement.

The dark abyss-like eyes of the boy with a hint of ruby red between them shone brighter with child-like expressions.

They sat side by side enjoying their time together for the rest of the night.

[The next day ]

Townsfolk came to congratulate both lord and the lady because they were very respected individuals among them due to their kind and gentle behaviour.

People came bearing gifts along with good wishes for the young lord. Despite their social standings. It was because the lord and lady were always kind towards them, hence earning their genuine respect.

Some showered him with their blessings, some with good wishes and some decided to express their happiness by bringing up presents for the young lord.

———

In the afternoon, an unexpected guest showed up at their doorstep. A tall old man with long gray hair gathered to form a bun on top of his head. His skin weathered by time, exuding a golden hue. Dressed in simple loose clothing.

The air around him felt thick, with serenity and wisdom. His brown eyes give away the feeling of inner peace. Although standing right in front of Lord Valerius. He felt far ...very far away from this materialistic world.

The lord bowed in recognition and respect in front of that person. Knowing well that he was a sage.

Sages were the people who used to meditate for years or rather decades, severing any ties from the mortal world to attain true enlightenment.

For a sage to come at one's doorstep was considered as a very good omen. Surely this wasn't a coincidence.

Without wasting time, the sage expressed his desire to see the face of the newborn.

Lord Valerius asked the sage to follow him as the newborn was asleep in the room. They arrived and Lady Sophia greeted the wise sage.

The sage just took a glance on the face of the child, turned and left the room.

Confused, Lord Valerius followed behind. The sage did not say anything on their way to the main gate. Before crossing the boundary he stopped, lingering for a minute.

"Lord Valerius" turned towards him the sage said with a pleasant smile, "Your son is a gifted child" were the only words which felt good but the sage didn't hold himself back for the next,

"blessed by the legacy, cursed by the past. He will rise in a world that seeks his fall. The forces of nature will soon find him. And when that happens, be sure to stand by his side."

Leaving these words behind like a riddle, the sage left without turning back.

———

Staring into the depths of the night sky, Lord Valerius was lost in his thoughts, wondering the meaning behind sage's words.

'cursed by the past, huh? what does that even mean?'

trying to understand the riddle, Valerius thought much about it but at last, left all the worries up to fate.

Apart from all the divine talks, it turned out, dealing with a newborn child wasn't a mundane task. Especially since, the young lord was a huge crybaby.

If he didn't find his mother upon waking up or not hearing his father's voice for sometimes resulted in loud unbearable cries. Because of that, his parents were reluctant to leave the boy alone even when he was asleep.

Taking care of a newborn comes with its fair share of problems like ,Father and mother cannot complete their sleep. Taking care of his meals and ...uh well other things.

And for them, there was another thing to worry about.

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, the boy would wake up from his deep sleep and would start crying as if he was in some kind of unbearable pain.

Parents consulted many doctors about his condition but neither any external or internal disease was detected. At the end all the specialists said only one thing, that for the children of his age, crying out of nowhere is normal.

The doctor explained, trouble while sleeping happens to be a common occurance among newborns. Which would mean that his condition should get better with time.

Luckily it happened as the doctor said. August was well even before a month passed by.
