Blaize's eyes fluttered open and were greeted not by the ceiling, but by a beautiful pair of blue eyes staring back at her. Her own eyes widened in surprise. The eyes belonged to Selene, who was seated in a chair pulled up beside the bed, a book spread open on her lap. A soft, serene smile was on her lips, but it faltered at Blaize's sudden start.
"Did I startle you? Oh, I'm so sorry." Selene quickly reached a hand to her head, adjusting the delicate veil draped over her scalp, an unconscious gesture to ensure her baldness wasn't the cause of Blaize's alarm.
