Raula sat upright in bed, a cup of tea held to her lips, when Dorianna walked in.
"Good morning, love," Dorianna said, walking swiftly over to the bed and bending down to press a kiss to her friend's cheek.
"I wasn't expecting you," Raula said, genuinely surprised but pleased by her friend's visit. She set her cup of tea on a saucer on the bedside table.
"I'm sorry for coming here so early," Dorianna said with a sigh as she settled onto the bed.
"You know that's not a problem," Raula said, her eyes following her friend's movements. "What's wrong? You look annoyed."
Dorianna let out a rude snort. "I'm more than annoyed." She peered closer at Raula. "What's wrong with you? You look very tired. Are you well?"
Raula smiled weakly, then slowly shook her head. Tears stung her eyes before a single drop slid down each cheek. Dorianna quickly leaned forward, her hands reaching out for her friend.
"Did something happen?" she asked in alarm.
