Chapter 24 - Physical Examination

A new day dawned, as the glorious spear of light pierced through the darkness enveloping the world.

The Training Camp's horn sounded as usual.

Marvin got out of bed, picked up the glasses on his bedside table, put them on, dressed, and then prepared a refreshing hot drink for himself.

This was his daily morning routine after waking up.

Although, given his work, he didn't need to wake up as early as the others in the Training Camp.

He only needed to concoct some potions before noon and teach the Trainers in the evening.

Whether it was making potions or teaching people to read, it was all very easy for Marvin.

Such a job would be quite good for retirement.

In fact, Marvin had thought this more than once.

He had worked so hard for so long, failed so many times, and sometimes he wanted to give up, but the unwillingness in his heart and the obsession from his youth made him cut off the thought of giving up again and again.

And if he really wanted to give up, why would he come here? Wouldn't it be better to stay in the city?

Given his status, he could live a life of luxury, with clothes handed to him and food served to him; fine clothes and rich food would merely be his daily life.

Marvin went to the window, opened it, and looked at the blurry figures running in the square outside.

"They are forced to keep running forward, while I force myself not to stop," Marvin sighed inwardly.

Then he left the window and went to his workstation.

The so-called workstation referred to a table with various instruments on it.

He usually made potions here and studied the properties of various materials.

Marvin planned to spend some time completing his work for the day, which was to make Stamina Potions for the Trainers.

Stamina Potion is a low-level alchemical potion, usually a red liquid, with the effects of rapidly restoring stamina and minor healing.

Because it was only a low-level potion, the difficulty was not great, even if Marvin added some unnecessary materials for his own research, changing the original formula of the potion.

However, it only added a few steps to the potion-making process, and the difficulty of refining the potion did not increase much because of it.

But being able to retain the original effects of the Stamina Potion while changing the manufacturing materials showed that Marvin had a very good understanding of the Stamina Potion's principles.

It also indicated that he was no longer an apprentice, at least in the field of alchemical potions.

After finishing the potion, Marvin poured it into a large potion bottle.

By noon, this bottle of potion would be poured into a basin, diluted with water to reduce some of its potency, and then distributed to the Trainers.

This was not only to save costs but also to reduce the side effects of the Stamina Potion.

Putting aside the additional effects caused by the extra materials Marvin added for research, the Stamina Potion itself has a side effect, which lies in its working principle.

Stamina Potion works by stimulating the body's Life force through the action of the drug, allowing the body to quickly recover stamina and, to a certain extent, heal injuries.

Its effect is similar to an enzyme in a chemical reaction, accelerating the body's originally slow recovery process.

And the body's Life force is the reactant, and the effect of the potion is the product.

Therefore, it is inevitable that using a Stamina Potion will consume a large amount of the user's Life force; this is a necessary price.

Originally, this was not a big side effect, because these consumed Life force would slowly recover over time and were not non-renewable resources.

But if it is used too many times in a short period, repeatedly squeezing the body's Life force before it has recovered.

That can easily lead to permanent loss of the Life origin, in which case, a shortened lifespan is the most basic outcome.

In addition, there are also things like weakened immunity, susceptibility to illness, slowed natural wound healing, and so on…

In short, Stamina Potion should not be taken in excess; if one truly wants to recover stamina quickly, the best way is to rest.

After completing the simple task of refining potions, Marvin began his daily research and study.

In order to achieve his obsession, he needed more knowledge to enrich himself and more research to pave the 'correct' path.

People who strive for their ideals always feel that time is not enough.

...

"Not enough… There's still too little time for sword practice. Why can't the instance have a time acceleration function?" Liens cried out in frustration in his heart, having fallen under the instructor's sword once again.

He had clearly seen his progress, but time was simply too short, and this progress was not enough to allow him to challenge the instructor.

He was still powerless in front of the instructor.

"Wake up, don't sleep… Wake up quickly."

Just as Liens was about to start the next round of the instance, he was woken up.

It was Ben who woke Liens up.

Ben pushed Liens's body, which was lying on the bed, while shouting at him.

"Is something wrong, Ben?"

Liens was a bit confused as to why his roommate would wake him up, knowing that it was currently noon and rest time.

Why would he not sleep during such a good rest period? Was this bully-faced guy planning a new escape attempt?

"I'm not very clear on the specifics, but a guard just came and told us to gather in the knowledge class classroom."

"The other two have already gone ahead. I was going to wake you up so we could go together." Ben explained to Liens.

"Thanks, if you hadn't woken me up, I would have really overslept." Liens thanked Ben, and then the two of them hurried to the classroom together.

At this time, many people were already standing outside the classroom, lined up in a row, seemingly waiting for something.

Clearly, Liens and his companion were a bit late, so they didn't know what to do.

"Friend, what are we supposed to do here?" Liens asked a person standing in the back row.

"I'm not sure either. I heard from the people in front that it seems like we're going to have some kind of physical examination." The person Liens asked turned to look at Liens and replied.

"Physical examination?"

Liens was a bit confused, but he didn't ask further. Instead, he and Ben lined up at the back, waiting for their turn.

While queuing, Liens saw the people in front of him leave one after another.

They didn't seem to have changed, and the so-called physical examination was very fast; each person left after a very short time.

Before long, it was Liens and his companion's turn.

Ben was in front, so Liens stood outside the classroom door, watching him complete various tests step by step.

When it was his turn, he followed Ben's steps.

First, he went to Marvin to register, and then placed his hand on a crystal ball for a short time.

When Liens walked up to Marvin, Marvin said, "You're Liens, right?"

Although it was a question, Marvin wrote the name on the paper with certainty before Liens could answer.

"Teacher remembers me?" Liens asked, puzzled.

"Of course, I remember each of your names."

"Come, put your hand on this crystal ball, and just wait a little while." Marvin said with a smile.

Liens obediently placed his hand on it, and after waiting for a short time, a faint white light lit up on the crystal ball.

Hmm…

Liens remembered that when Ben and the person in front of Ben tested this, there was no reaction, but when it was his turn, a white light lit up.

Was he different from the previous two?

After examining the crystal ball carefully again, the confusion in Liens's eyes quickly turned into understanding.

"A faint spiritual talent, this is the talent you possess." Looking at the faint white light on the crystal ball, Marvin smiled and explained to Liens.

"It really is that." Liens thought to himself.

When he carefully observed the crystal ball just now, he remembered an instance from over a month ago, the day he was just sold to the Slave Exchange.

At that time, Barton had used a similar crystal ball to perform some kind of test on him, and a faint white light also lit up, after which Barton confirmed that he possessed some spiritual talent.

Barton even wanted to sell him at a high price because of this, but unfortunately, no one valued him, which led to his treatment at the Slave Exchange continuously decreasing, eventually reaching a worse state than that of a common Slave.

Of course, among the buyers, the one who left the deepest impression on him was the mysterious mage wearing a hooded cloak.

It was precisely because of his evaluation that he indirectly ended up in this Training Camp.

"If I had been bought by him at that time, perhaps I would have already learned magic by now." Liens still thought with some regret.

After understanding the meaning of the white light on the crystal ball, Liens left the table and continued with other tests.

Such as physical tests like height and weight.

He also learned his height and weight from the tests.

Height 155 cm, weight 41.5 kg.

Truly short and thin.
