CHAPTER 127
KATYA POV
Nonna rolled her wheelchair toward the elevator, her hands steady on the wheels, while I hovered beside her like a nervous shadow.
The hallway felt colder on the way back… or maybe that was just me. I pressed the elevator button, and the soft ding echoed through the quiet floor.
The doors slid open, and I guided Nonna inside, stepping in after her and pressing the button for the top floor — Romeo's floor.
Inside the elevator, the hum of movement filled the silence. Nonna glanced up at me, studying my face like she could read the thoughts I was trying so hard to hide.
"You're trembling," she said gently. "I'm not," I whispered, even though I definitely was. My fingers wouldn't stay still.
Romeo could now walk, which meant he could easily match me to the floor. Nonna reached out and placed her hand over mine.
"Mia cara, sweet girl… you're worried about him, aren't you?"
