"Shit!" Grey hissed, his muscles tensing instinctively.
He was about to leap backward to create some much-needed distance when he remembered the two elves cowering directly behind him.
If he retreated now, they would be shredded in seconds. He had to stand his ground.
"Earth magic! Earth Wall!" he roared.
A massive slab of dense soil and rock erupted from the ground in front of him, creating a temporary bulwark that blocked the Echidas' path.
Almost immediately, the rhythmic, thunderous pounding of heavy paws began to vibrate through the stone as the beasts hammered against the barrier.
'This wall won't hold for much longer, and I can't fight with full mobility while trying to shield these two. The logical move is to get them to safety, but nowhere in this town looks particularly secure right now,' he realized grimly.
A jagged piece of the earthen defense crumbled and fell away under the relentless assault.
